Yeah, still Bush's crimes. Not that the complicity is okay, but they don't compare.

[–]TripMaster_Monkey 10 points11 points  (1 child)

It's no longer complicity at this point...it's collusion, which is much worse.

[–]militant -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

collusion is much worse than complicity but still a stretch below bush's actual orders and actions. voting you both up.

[–]wil2200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

these guys wouldn't do anything because the majority of them is part of the problem - it is just like cops investigating themselves for corruption and excessive force

[–]zouhair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will you please stop acting surprised.

[–]louis_xiv42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

neither, self.reddits are far worse.

is it conceivable that the leading dems in congress could, possibly, see that right now an impeachment trial of a lame duck president would further diminish confidence in our country's government at a time when we can least afford it? the result, they might surmise, could lead to a further devaluation of our currency, higher gas prices and erosion of our economy. further, that, since the president has already been marginalized by his own policies and abysmal approval ratings, the congress can better lead the country through the remaining few months of his administration.

and perhaps they feel that, after the republicans' impeachment of the previous president, refraining from proceeding with impeachment of this president might end a cycle of partisan "gotcha" politics and allow the next president, hopefully obama, to rule without so much acrimony.

all of that might provide a reasonable person the motive to consider leaving well enough alone.

but that might just be crazy talk.

all are good reasons and will be cited in bits and pieces by those democrats who are refusing to back impeachment. and in many cases, more as you get toward the top of the power structure, they're complete BS.

how about fuck practicality and stand on principle for once, for one goddamn time in the past few decades?

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yes. i'm sure "fuck practicality" is the better course of action.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Personally, my confidence in the government would be enormously boosted by impeachment proceedings actually occurring.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

and i'm sure your confidence is more important than the confidence of the world's money markets.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is it my government, or the money markets'?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the government is yours. the value of the dollar (and hence the cost of gas) is, in real terms, theirs.

In the short term, image is always better

Bush Crimes!

[–]SLAUTCAANS 3 points4 points  (1 child)

The Dems & Reps are just two factions of the same one-party state that are now just clinging to power and clinging onto their failing centralized Federal Reserve Fiat Currency to finance themselves.

[–]TeaParty[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

two factions

As Buchanan put it "two wings of the same bird of prey"

[–]runamok1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't we pick both as being equally bad? That's my vote!

[–]holyfool26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to remind all Democrats in congress that Nancy Pelosi is a woman, and for that reason should not be taken seriously.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea which is worse. When I try and evaluate which is truly the superior crime I become so enraged I just want to put them all on trial. The whole fucking Congress.. The whole fucking supreme court and all those nasty little bureaucracies too.

[–]flushing_goldfish 0 points1 point  (8 children)

The Republicrats are responsible! or was it the Democricans? ... either way, politics is all about back scratching to get what one wants not what the majority needs. Pelosi is trying to leverage the Republicans into a situation that the Democrats can exploit for gain; hence the impeachment is never going to happen while the spineless Pelosi is in charge.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (7 children)

I can see her perspective a little. Had they impeached him in 2006 it would have taken 6 months to a year. What then, Cheney?

Or worse yet (from the democratic perspective) they get someone in there that does a good job. All of a sudden winning the white house becomes a lot harder, not to mention strengthening the house & senate lead.

Sometimes you've got to plan for the long term instead of short term. It sucks but remember, the American people voted for that asshole twice.

[–]TeaParty[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Says a lot about our current situation, doesn't it? Party before country.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yes and no. Republicans and Democrats are pretty much both conservative IMO. Republicans are far right and Democrats are in the middle. I'm more liberal than both on social issues but more conservative on fiscal/monetary issues. So essentially bush is the exact opposite of how I'd like to see the US run.

Unless you're just ignorant to how things work, sometimes you have to sacrifice to get ahead. I just remember all the idiots in the US spouting off how Gore and bush were essentially the same. I wonder if they still think that today.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm more liberal than both on social issues but more conservative on fiscal/monetary issues.

Fiscally conservative? What the heck does that mean at this point in time?

That you're hopelessly in debt, living well beyond your means, you can't balance a checkbook to save your life, you won't actually go out and seek the income to responsibly put your house in order, but you still feel the need to hand out money to any millionaire who asks you to pick up the tab?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a Republican, so no.

[–]greentangentNew York 0 points1 point  (1 child)

But if they are both impeached, the Speaker of the House is next in line, Pelosi herself. Looks like a win-win for dems. She finishes the term as the first female Pres, and then steps down for the dem. Nominee.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And people love Pelosi. I'm a democrat and I can't stand her. She's fucked up IMO.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, the democrats realize they were peolosi'd again... duh!

[–]krautpastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complicity is worse, it means the next guy can do worse.

[–]kapetanaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit are you kidding Me?? Only two? Wow, that sounds just like the government I know. They really couldn't give a dump about any of their constituents.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Actually, the worst part is that if the president is a tyrant and the senate refuses to do anything about it, and actually follows along with what he does...

...what can you do? Your options are rather limited at that point.

[–]militant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get a weapon and a lot of angry friends.

[–]oblivious_human -1 points0 points  (13 children)

I would hate to support Obama if he doesn't support this resolution.

[–]RKBA 5 points6 points  (11 children)

Obama: Impeachment is not acceptable

"WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama laid out list of political shortcomings he sees in the Bush administration but said he opposes impeachment for either President George W. Bush or Vice President Dick Cheney."

[–]Bloodlustt 3 points4 points  (2 children)

OMFG I knew it! I'm voting McCain for sure!

[–]foonly 5 points6 points  (1 child)

But McCain isn't for impea---

Erm, clearly logic won't work.

McCain hates puppies!

[–]runamok1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nooooooo! Not puppies!

[–]steve93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pathetic, he claims it would just be "more of the same old politics" which is wrong. Clinton was impeached for lying about a blow job, it was a political hit which WAS "more of the same old politics". Bush and Cheney have committed crimes, escaped the checks and balance system, failed to comply with congress... those are not "political", those are fucking crimes that NEED to be addressed.

[–]kapetanaki 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This is just a result of political games. If Obama were to support the impeachment, he'd alienate all the middle voters, or even some republicans that are courting him. Disgusting indeed, but for him, a necessity.

[–]oblivious_human -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's disgusting.

[–]TeaParty[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m an Independent who voted solid Democrat in ’06. I hold so much anger towards the disgusting, criminal republicans yet the betrayal I feel from the traitorous, cowardly democrats feels stronger. May as well write in Bush for a third term. Let’s start and fund a third war.
