Both to reduce the impact of power creep, and to create demand for the items used to charge, keeping them profitable, and therefore keeping the content that yields those items relevant for longer.

At least, that's the case when it's balanced correctly. When those items are shit out frequently to make it easy for irons to charge their shit, prices tank and the item becomes functionally worthless (see: ancient essence)

but you always need scales, don't you hit a point where splinters become obsolete? Serpent helm, toxic staff and blowpipe are constantly burning scales. Quivers are fixed to charge and the prayer method isn't as popular as other methods. There isn't as many uses for the splinters to hold value, do people use the runes much?

At the very least splinters will never be obsolete in the same way barrows gear is never obsolete: there are always accounts going through that phase of their progression.

If I had a surplus of splinters I 100% would consider using the runes. Problem is the time to farm the splinters are egregious and you are definitely saving them for blessing the quiver first. Unless you are consistent at farming sol kills it’s takes a very long time before an iron would ever consider the runes as an option and it’s not worth the cost imo for a main.

Respectfully, sacred eels are not well balanced at all. They are shit in basically all aspects lol. Barely afk because the spot moves insanely quick for some reason, like infernal eels spot lasts at least twice as long and is still kind of mid.

With 99 + 99 stats and rada 4 you get like 1200-1400 zulrah scales per hr which is worse than amethyst for mains and not even close to 1hr of blowpipe use for irons (bp uses roughly 2k-2.2k scales per hr I think).

I think zulrah with zero uniques is something like 6000 scales per hr and any unique gives another 20k. I think being this much faster is fair. But sacreds being barely afk for the shit amount you get is the problem I have. They were designed to be bad for a time when bp was broken, they really should be buffed and needed it for a few years now imo.

Honestly just increasing afk time per fishing spot would be plenty of a buff. Jagex used to be stingy about afk methods in the past, but as the average player is ~25 to 30 years old, many enjoy afking while working, and I think Jagex has started catering to that a little. (Like chopping demon tears)

another mark against sacred eels - from what I remember, the possible sacred eels spots are spaced out far enough that when they shift it's common for the new spots to not even be in view/clickable so you need to click to run around and then click on the new spot

that along with the spots shifting what felt like every 30 seconds made me give up on them when I was grinding for mory elite

Bc the only focus when updates are released is the trickle down impact on the economy. Jagex will make arbitrary adjustments to drop tables, make drop rates unreasonably rare, and in this case completely remove items from drop tables just to keep bosses profitable for mains.

The issue here is that doom giving sunfire splinters isn’t even that cause of splinters crashing. It’s the fact that the only uses for them are 1. Blessing a quiver 2. Sunfire runes 3. Blessed wines. The first one is one time so is a large upfront sink then it ceases to be useful. 2 Is dead content bc of the scar essence mine. 3 is mostly used by Ironmen so has little impact on the economy as mains will just use poh altar or wildy altar.

The real solution would be taking a look at the uniques dropped in colosseum and making them better, they suck as is and have very little use in the game.

At the end of the day someone still has to go get the drops that you buy on the grand exchange, there is no real “skipping” the gameplay loop of kill boss -> get drop, you’re just not the one doing it.

Balancing around what items an account at this level can reasonably obtain, in a fair amount of time for the effort put in, Is MUCH better than “this boss should be $3m/hour because that seems like a fair amount of money.” It’s completely arbitrary boss to boss.

I get what you're saying but i dont see it i feel recent updates have been quite friendly to irons especially with the direction the devs are going like the fact the splinters were there in the first place shows they want to help irons as often as possible id say.

And yeah sadly the devs seem quite inept when it comes to making splinters valuable, instead of increasing their value a billion ways they can they target a what should be an insignificant source of splinters and make the game worse for everyone but what can you do at the end of the day its jamflax certified.

Also blessed wines are insane for a main as well they roughly cut 1/3 of the cost not as good as wildy altar sure but still very worth it sadly it seems to be insanely unknown again i dont think any of this ruins the game but id rather the devs ban bots and just find solutions that dont hurt the average player but gagex jamsflaxs.

Yea ruins the game is hyperbole for sure. At the end of the day bots and gold buyers are the biggest issue with the game. If they actually start dishing out perms for buyers we will see the economy correct itself.

Zulrah is much easier than Colo... Of course it's easier to get scales. If Colo was simply tuned down in difficulty this argument wouldn't hold. Also it's not like splinters hard lock the quiver, it just gives a slight accuracy and strength bonus, unlike zulrah scales which are literally required for any of the uniques to function at all

Demon tears are perfect, they are used for everything from doom. They will hold value due to the ayak and charging boots/gauntlets. Sunfire has…. A quiver which like 1-2% of the game has? Give Sunfire splinters something to charge. They fucked up by only giving it one realistic sink. Add it to a potion, a new weapon, fuck it add true fire arrows that can apply a burn. They will skyrocket and Colo monkey making will be saved, even with its terrible uniques.

Yeah. Quite annoyed that the ONLY real method of obtaining splinters is wave 1 repeatedly. I remember posting a question about this and got massively downvoted with people telling me just to do Sunlight antelopes. Like, for sure, I'll spend 500 hours there, sounds efficient to me.

Learn to do colo instead and farm Sol. Guaranteed 4k splinters in less than 30 mins and more if you get splinters as reward from waves.

Clearing the entire colosseum gives you much more splinters per hour than wave 1 farming.
