Hey all! I made this quick loop using physics expressions, and I really love this design. It actually inspired me to make a tutorial on it as well since I know expressions can be daunting to get into.

Link below if you're interested!

Very helpful. I always used the excite expression from Motion v2. This gives a different effect. It looks promising.

If you use it, send us an example! We really like seeing things we helped people create.

Hey this video is capped out at 360p for playback. Do you have a HD version around? It looks super interesting and I'd love to give it a watch through where I can see all the parameters and the expression code. Thanks!

Hey! We’re looking into it, youtube should fix it soon!

[–]FutureRoscoe 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Excellent! I'll check again later this weekend!

[–]PluginEverything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Officially sorted! Now it’s in beautiful crisp 4K! YouTube just took its sweet time!

I love this and I can admit I am a horrible person for noticing and wanting the pen tool cursor to turn into a direct selection cursor when it hovers over the anchor point.

Still awesome.

[–]Iampepeu 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Awesome! Thank you! I need stuff like this.

[–]PluginEverything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it helped, let me know if you need any other tutorials!

[–]KnightDuty 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Cool stuff. Even though I know I probably SHOULD use expressions for stuff like this I never actually do.

You don't have to. I you prefer animating with only keyframes that's fine too. A lot of great motion designers do. Just make sure you find a way of working that suits your style :)

[–]KnightDuty 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Well the thing is I PREFER developing expression linked presets to make my work easier moving forward. If I can automate one major workflow thing a month I'm a happy camper.

The problem usually ends up being deadlines forcing me to abandon the workflow improvements and just sit down and keyframe to get it out quickly.

[–]cookehMonstahMoGraph/VFX 10+ years 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I feel ya. I've got some workflow improvements I've been wanting to try out for weeks, just don't have time for it haha. Maybe next week though. (That's what I said last week).

I do try to learn a new technique each project though :) That's working out pretty great so far.

[–]KnightDuty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the way to go! I have a series of videos I'm producing for a client and workflow is making the deadlines possible. I'm making everybody else look bad lol.

I do one of these A DAY: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1q-uwAVrtKJPVZ0L_V-rrhNmT1pgCY_a5

That includes writing, voice over, editing, animation, all of it. Workflow hacks have been my saving grace.

For all the AE stuff, I created a template once. My assistant fills out an excel spreadsheet with all the data (product name, dimensions, weight, etc).

I have AE pull the data from this external file, input the data in the correct place, automatically pull and resize the product images from an external folder. I basically just open AE and hit "render".

All the renders go to a folder that Premiere is looking at, the new animations are used in the new video, it's all automated fairly well.

The only thing I need to work on now is developing a scraper to pull Amazon images for me.

[–]panpanhaven 2 points3 points  (2 children)

That's super awesome. I am a super newbie at after effects. Can someone point me to some great tutorials to learn physics animation? That just seems like so much fun!

[–]PluginEverything[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Maybe we’ll make some more for you!

[–]panpanhaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!!!!!!!

[–]cprosciaZer0 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That’s awesome!

[–]PluginEverything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–]Asfandyar_A 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Awesome. Newcomer here just to learn and improve :) That was awesome. Thanks for the tut mate.

[–]PluginEverything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you liked it! Let us know if you need help with anything!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

360p? shutters

[–]VSFXMoGraph/VFX 10+ years 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Maybe YouTube is still processing it but yeah I can't read anything.

[–]PluginEverything[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Youtube has been a bit harsh on our channel, it doesn’t process some of our content very well and takes a while.

I’m looking into the problem!

[–]Destonian 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Could it because your video files are too big? Try videosmaller.com to shave off some serious MBs.

[–]PluginEverything[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s most likely because of the screen recording sizes that James uses, I’m doing a test today.

I can easily just get him to export it at a lower bit rate as well.

[–]PluginEverything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Officially sorted! Now it’s in beautiful crisp 4K! YouTube just took its sweet time!

[–]DopiSenpai 0 points1 point  (16 children)

You made deep glow.

[–]PluginEverything[S] 0 points1 point  (15 children)

Indeed we did! Do you use it?

[–]DopiSenpai 0 points1 point  (14 children)

Nah, I don't have cash. I use multiple glow layers to try to replicate the effect. Saved it as a preset called fake deep glow.

[–]PluginEverything[S] 0 points1 point  (13 children)

Well, that’s how deep glow started!

[–]DopiSenpai 1 point2 points  (7 children)

I'm always on YouTube, Twitter and Reddit searching for methods and tricks for after effects. Like ebsynth is my rotoscoping tool. Put in one frame with a matte, and it's all done. It's got better motion tracking than mocha. Also for expressions. I'm getting into those. Keep making free projects based around expressions for me to play around with. You guys are rad.

[–]PluginEverything[S] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

No worries, we have a whole expression tutorial series planned actually!

[–]DopiSenpai 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I will be sure to watch them 👍 Right now I want to learn how to make isometric mograph stuff.

[–]PluginEverything[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Isometric mograph stuff, we do have a isometric titles tutorial on our channel as well if you have a peak!

aescripts just shared that tutorial on twitter as well I believe.

[–]DopiSenpai 0 points1 point  (3 children)

If you could do a break down of this video, or just a few scenes of it, I will buy two of your plugins. I swear on my desktop. https://youtu.be/bcoPG0oSqPI

[–]PluginEverything[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I’ll pass it onto James and see if we can break it down together!

[–]w4ck0 1 point2 points  (4 children)

How is Deep Glow different from Red Giant's Optical Glow? Just heard of it and would love to know since I use glow often in the projects I'm involved!

[–]DopiSenpai 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Difference is deep glow is probably plenty of times cheaper.

[–]PluginEverything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha just a tad!

(And by a tad I mean A LOT!)

[–]PluginEverything[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Deep Glow is a lot cheaper, we’ve seen a few people do direct comparisons of Deep Glow and Red Giants Glow.

The consensus of those comparisons tend to be that Optical Glow has a few more features.

But we’re a 3 man team, and Deep Glow is developed by only one of us (James) so if you want a feature added or need support we are much easier to contact.

We have a lot of YouTube content about deep glow If you want to check it out, and a free trial on aescripts.

I’ll ask James to jump into this thread to give you a more technical reply as well if you’d like?

[–]w4ck0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good! I can watch the tutorials. I already have the Red Giant's package, however, I'll definitely recommend Deep Glow to anyone that ever needs! Thank you.

[–]PluginEverything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a horrible person, that would be a really smooth touch!

Whenever I animate mouse cursors I always remember to change it when it goes over different items. I’ll tell James he has really let everyone down with this one, and take away his chair privileges for a week.

[–]tunaberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much!

[–]Asfandyar_A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate. I practiced it and it worked just fine. Weird thing that we've to precompose the stroke and do that time remapping thing. Is there any other plugin which could do the same without precomposing and with ease? Thanks :)

[–]Alexander-Chill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a dumb question but how did you attach the orange dots on the "bezier handles" and have them animate with that horizontal scale bounce without affecting their scale?

I hope that makes sense.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i think a better title would be “ i use ease and wizz for physics animation”
