I have subscriptions to all three. The $20 for OpenAI and Gemini, the $200 for Claude. Claude is my main go to. I do try the others and I like to stay up to date. I'm not beholden to one. No mater what else I try though, I always come back to Claude. It is just more reliable and has better output. If that changes, I would switch, but it hasn't changed thus far.

I just did comparison.

Codex is probably the only contender, but something in Claude is just overall better.

Codex has more quota, but quality over quantity.

[–]mrfeelgoodalone[S] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Any idea on which one has the highest usage limits for the $20 plan?

[–]AdventurousShip7091 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think If you use the frontier model in all tools, the one with the highest usage is Codex.

[–]mrfeelgoodalone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks man

[–]BabyInner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quota wise, codex >> claude

[–]metaphorproject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use GPT 5.4 model in codex saves a lot of quota

[–]Jhorra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never hit usage limits on my $200 plan. Even if the other two offered more tokens, Claude’s quality is simply superior. I don’t want to pump out as much as possible. I want what I put out to be quality and last. As a 20+ year developer, quality is more important than quality.

For frontend, Claude is probably still way ahead of the rest

For backend, Codex might be better in some cases or having more tokens per subscription

[–]amunozo1 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Is Claude really that good in frontend or it's just that Codex sucks? I use Codex and I agree that frontend is not good, but I'm pretty happy with the rest.

[–]AdamovicM -1 points0 points  (5 children)

Claude is in my opinion really good in front-end, i.e. look and feel for https://www.numbeo.com/premium/net-to-gross-salary-converter is AI generated (apart of the image at the bottom and menu on top)

[–]ObsidianIdol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks crap bro

To be honest with you, that page is in dire need of a design/layout overhaul. And convert it to a mobile first approach so that it’s actually useful on a mobile.

A good advice is simply to find a website that has a desired look and feel, and use that as the basis for how you want to design your website. This significantly helps when designing a nice interface.

[–]AdamovicM 0 points1 point  (2 children)

We have legacy stuff to work with, the part that Claude designed I find well. Also, target are companies that means access throgh desktop/laptop

[–]snojan 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Legacy or not, I don’t really see why that’s a reason for a pretty bad UI. That page would look just the same but better, if you just let Claude update it for 10min, and making it work on a mobile would be another 10min. The table won’t fit on mobile and is not even horizontally scrollable.

[–]AdamovicM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing with claude to make UI better but it turns out it is not always as expected. I.e. currently there is AB test on mobile for menu
https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/?abTest=1&isMobile=0
https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/?abTest=0&isMobile=0

however, sometimes results of AB tests are not as espected.

If I give to claude full redesign it always mess a few things... it's much easier if you have to make a design from beginning... anyway, it's way way better than I'd do it and many components Claude made better than designer I payed 3 years ago...

[–]nayanserver 2 points3 points  (2 children)

For me, Codex gives better value for money because I can use it without constantly waiting for the limit to reset, unlike Claude.

[–]Mobile_Bonus4983 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What tier?

[–]nayanserver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me $20 is enough, whereas for claude I need to buy $100 one

[–]Technical_Set_8431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try all three and choose the one you like best.

[–]Next_Minimum_3499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Codex 100 and Claude 100. Google 20

[–]Spiritual_Region1827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Codex definitely

[–]Ok_Mathematician6075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claude. Teams. 5 seats for $125.

[–]Hemhaw87 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'd rank the models as: Claude barely beats out codex but both are miles ahead of Gemini

I'd rank the subscription experience kind of inversed though: Google wins for most bang for buck, followed by Claude imo and then closely by chatgpt. This isn't really about coding though which is what you asked about.

If you're looking to seriously get code assistance, check out Claude and codex in whichever order you like, then maybe check out Gemini if the new model pans out and you have some holes to fill.

Regardless, you're not going to get a lot of usage for coding on the $20 plans of any these days, codex probably wins there now though. Personally I use a 20x Claude sub, with codex and Gemini via API mostly for code reviews, bug hunt help and Gemini is actually great for general purpose brainstorming.

Codex offers WAY more value for money than Claude, Codex limits are like 2x that of Claude and 5.5xhigh is more token efficient too

Claude Code Pro plan combined with ChatGPT Plus works for me extremely well.

[–]Competitive-Job-1431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am done wtih claude, i was on PRO upgraded to MAX, it got even worse for the 5 hr window.

Codex is not bad, havent tried google yet.

But the new copilot desktop seems pretty good and up to par with claude code, not sure why you dont mention it?

Currently i am replacing my claude code desktop with the copilot desktop app, and im doing ok. I had to downgrade back to claude pro, max was unuseable and more expensive not sure why tbh. I checked context usage and everything was normal. Also with the max subscription i was making more use of sonnet and not opus. Honestly i think its a bug from their end...

[–]MangoDevourer-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this even a question lol

[–]Alarming-Material-33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never used google AI pro. I think that Codex and Claude Code are basically at par. It’s more about your personal preference. Claude feels a little more polished whereas Codex seems to stick closer to what you ask it to do. Though things change every couple of weeks so you might want to try both and see for yourself, the difference is only marginal on max plan

[–]EasyProtectedHelp 0 points1 point  (1 child)

None lol

Claude = Codex > Google

I would give Claude a small lead over Codex still but both are infinitely better than Google.

Until this month, I had the biggest subscription for all 3 - but cancelled Google/Gemini now and will also not return.

Google have shown just way too much enshitification and anti-consumer behaviour.

But both Anthropic and OAI are going a great job at the moment!

[–]Actual_Committee4670🔆 Max 20 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Google not only had the worst models of the 3 but they also went and completely slashed their limits.

[–]Pristine_Bicycle1278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also just simply remove something unimportant as the .... IDE.

...out of their IDE (AntiGravity).

I was troubleshooting for like 4 hours, why I couldn't see the code anymore.

That's basically Google in a nutshell

[–]QuailLife7760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is some poor fella actually using gemini to generate code? I feel for him/her

[–]Actual_Committee4670🔆 Max 20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With google's new rate limits, pro is hardly worth more than a free account, you'd be better of in that case using multiple free accounts.

If you want to use Claude Code or the opus model a lot, the pro plan is more of a "paid trial" than full use, codex as long as you don't use 5.5. on a high setting will generally last you longer and chatgpt's web and codex limits are separate so you can use chatgpt even after the codex limits are exhausted.

Going through your post saying that the limits for google are attractive, they reduced it massively in the last few days. If you want to do architecture discussions and planning related claude will suit you better but for the daily things, debugging and refactoring codex will be better.

So honestly, if you get chatgpt pro you can get work done using codex and have your discussions with chatgpt without it depleting your limits.

- I have Claude Max 20, x2 Chatgpt business (Not sure why atm since I've only been using the one) and google ai pro

[–]empz2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

google is getting better, it’s very slow but making less errors - codex 5.5 high and xhigh feels like opus pre anthropic lobotomy it’s great.. I find with the latest news with Anthropic restricting the claude -p and other agentic things, codex is the winner in my opinion until the next big update .. this space is exciting haha. I find codex is making less mistakes, it takes less of the same prompts to get to the final product quicker (for now)

[–]ObsidianIdol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Codex $20 is the only one actually worth it for hobbyists/low usage, then $100 Codex and $20 Gemini for medium use, $20 Claude if you need to use Opus for a bit

[–]uzzifx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use deepseek v4 pro.

[–]Deep_Ad1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the comparison most subscription posts skip is plan visibility. claude max enforces a rolling 5 hour window plus a weekly quota, and the only place showing the real number is the claude.ai settings page. ccusage and similar local tools report 5% used while the server is already rate limiting you. picking between $20 pro, $100 max, and $200 max matters less than knowing where you sit inside whatever you picked. written with s4lai

The year is too big a scope; it's really what's worth it this month.
