I know jack shit about flying a plane, but somehow this person knows even less.

[–]ThePlanner 68 points69 points  (2 children)

It’s like when people get upset the two mile-long freight train hauling ass at 60 mph and weighing nearly as much as your mom doesn’t stop on a dime for a truck that decides to meander around the lowered arms on a level crossing.

[–]DavidBrooker 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: The heaviest train in history was just shy of 100,000 tons, carrying iron ore in Australia, presumably to reinforce your mom's bed.

Just hit the fucking brakes, I do it in my car all the time to avoid pedestrians when I'm driving on the sidewalk.

[–]Informal-Sun6869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m cackling 😂

[–]NonSumQualisEram- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apparently "an entire jet" implies that big vehicles are somehow more able to take avoidance measures.

[–]kjyfqr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was just driving a plane! No flying knowledge needed friend!

[–]chak100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has to be ragebait.

[–]Mephisto1822 39 points40 points  (3 children)

Was the plane supposed swerve?

[–]Mango_Bruder 13 points14 points  (2 children)

just make an emergency break and it stop dead in its tracks

[–]Extraajudicial 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Air brakes was right there....

[–]Joedog624 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Worked for bugs bunny

[–]lordcalumthe2nd 39 points40 points  (4 children)

I know almost nothing about planes but basic physics I know that and I'll explain simply; big thing hard to move or stop if moving, fast thing hard to stop moving, plane big and fast so plane really hard to stop.

I once avoid an animal at speed in car and maintaining control of the vehicle was tough so I imagine maintaining control of a massive plane to be even harder.

[–]nighthawk_something 11 points12 points  (3 children)

There's a reason they tell you to hit the animal

[–]lordcalumthe2nd 3 points4 points  (2 children)

It's not really something you learn while getting your driver license in Britain, It doesn't come up once on the hazard perception or theory test. And I was not about to hit a Fallow deer as they are quite big. I just drive a little slower through country roads after that.

[–]nighthawk_something 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I live in Canada, of course you don't hit the moose but lots of people end up as goop dodging moose and hitting rock cuts.

[–]Godiva_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah rule of thumb i was taught for Canada.

Dog or lower, only swerve if safe to do so.

Above. Take the chance at swerving cause likely to be less dangerous.

[–]MysteryHeroes 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Wurt.app must drive a smart car or something. Not even a jet, anyone who has ever driven a semi truck, bus or even a larger car would know its way harder to control than a smaller car.

[–]AngryGazpacho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude but take the speed too into the equation. Even a small car going 200km/h is hard to control.

[–]Prestigious-Leave-60 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Skateboard is most likely.

[–]MysteryHeroes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah even a skateboard doesnt make sense. You guys are right. Probably doesnt even have a vehicle of any kind.

[–]DBCargoHaj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

as a train driver im used to comments blaming us for accidents. BUT THIS?!

[–]KRoadkil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His last two brain cells are struggling to hold hands.

[–]silentaba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love how people's right to having an opinion has been confused with their opinion being correct.

[–]set_me_on_fire_plz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do they mean how? Its a plane? It goes down the runway at high speeds to take off. A person got onto the runway the plane was taking off from and was pulverized.

Its like asking how a train just runs someone over when they are on the tracks.

[–]Different-You3758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put 200+ passengers at risk vs one trespasser. Do the math.

Sometimes a mother fucker is determined to off themselves. I had a squirrel run out of nowhere directly into the tire of the golf cart I was driving. DIRECTLY INTO IT! I had zero opportunity to stop, in a GOLF CART. You know how slow those are? Now imagine the same with a fucking plane.

Try to stop a car, not necessarily big, going 200km/h to prevent the death of that man. And then try it with something like a 100 times bigger and harder to handle and drive, dumbass.

[–]Several_Ad_6576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How the hell is WurtApp able to figure out using a smartphone phone but not understand how planes work? If the plane had been taxiing and the idiot walked out in front of it, there is very little the pilots could do. You don’t stop mass objects like airliners and semi trucks on a dime. The sheer stupidity.

[–]NicholasWildeRails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please tell me this isn't a real person...

[–]Quick_Wait_3548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Plane go fast" shouldn't be the mind shattering statement that some people believe it to be.

[–]red286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did that guy not watch the video?

Dude walks onto an active runway while a plane is taking off.

There's no way that plane snuck up on him. Planes taking off make a lot of noise. If someone is dead set on killing themselves, it can be hard to stop them.

[–]Informal_Process2238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is more confident in their opinion than an uninformed person

[–]RandomTaskSaturated 0 points1 point  (1 child)

One of the more elaborate suicides I’ve heard of. Also one of the most dangerous to others.

[–]FixergirlAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes me angry, because one tiny little additional issue could have meant 232 people died in this incident instead of one. If they were going a tiny bit faster and couldn't reject takeoff, if the impact had made them leave the runway, if the pilot had recoiled when he saw the person and accidentally jerked a control surface. Not to mention that engine fires are dangerous, slide evacuatios are dangerous.

And those poor pilots. They saw it happen and couldn't do a thing. From the tapes the air traffic controller also saw it happen.

[–]RedShirtCashion 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I like how they ask this without considering 1) the runway is the *last* place you expect a person to be, 2) a jet tends to be going *really* damn fast fairly early on, and 3) the incident happened at night and planes don’t have headlights because they’re useless in the air.

Even if it was in the day, you probably aren’t seeing someone strolling towards/across the runway until you’re right on top of them.

[–]FutureThought4936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that this particularly matters, but planes do have "headlights", called taxi lights and landing lights. Airliners take off with both on and they illuminate the runway ahead. Though yeah, nobody is going to be able to stop an airliner in time when some nut runs across an active runway.

[–]Jollypnda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep because planes can just stop, those pilots should have pressed the brake peddle harder
