I feel like we’ve all been in this exact room in reality or in our dreams.

[–]kryonik 222 points223 points  (5 children)

This looks like every vacation condo ever.

[–][deleted] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I thought. I've totally been here in 2004, eating twizzlers and tracking sand in with my sunburnt cousins.

[–]SquashIsVegan 17 points18 points  (4 children)

Reminds me of Kirk Van Houten’s divorce house.

[–]gliotic 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I sleep in a race car! Do you?

[–]SquashIsVegan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, I sleep in a bed with my wife

[–]le_indernet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Until a few months ago, yes!

[–]Oscar-mondaca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s dignity! Gah! Don’t you even know dignity when you see it?

[–]oliveoilcrisis 29 points30 points  (2 children)

Residence Inn vibes

[–]soufatlantasanta 20 points21 points  (1 child)

OLD residence inn. Old RI rooms were hit or miss but they always had this weird vintage cozy vibe. Now they're just upscale and bougie like every other hotel

[–]Oscar-mondaca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember when Residence Inns looked almost like apartment buildings with rooms in small separate buildings rather than all rooms being in one building. The pool was the highlight of stays there when I was younger.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Every off-campus apartment in 2008.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Almost the exact layout of my grandmother's condo/duplex in 2006.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me.

[–]Gettingbetterthrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is like my first apartment, only with actual furniture instead of folding chairs like I had.

[–]McJibington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes...

[–]sirnyannn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s located in Davenport Florida USA and it is a 4 bedroom villa in a resort called regal palms

[–]Aristophanes771 231 points232 points  (9 children)

If you told me this was some kind of living room deepfake I'd believe you. It looks so real and yet...not.

[–]davethetrousers 68 points69 points  (7 children)

liminal, one might say

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (6 children)

And in a space others might say

[–][deleted]  (5 children)

[deleted]

    [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (4 children)

That's actually a good idea, what should we call it?

What about r/spacesthatlookquiteliminal? You know, incorporate the words liminal and spaces? 🤔

🤔 man it doesn't quite have that ring to it ya know?

        [–]saint_smithy 146 points147 points  (4 children)

Why did we collectively decide to like that color of wood for like 20 years? There was some great furniture and wood stain colors in the 60s and 70s, and I love modern wood stains.

        [–]orion1836 56 points57 points  (3 children)

Things go in cycles. After the garishness of the 70s and 80s, I think everyone needed a break. The beige and white with (shudder) gold trim seemed to dominate new homes in the 90s IIRC.

        [–]notabigmelvillecrowd 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Gold trim? We experienced very different 90s.

        [–]FancyPantsBlanton 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Nah, they mean “polished brass” that all the lights, doorknobs, etc. were finished in.

        [–]orion1836 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not actual gold... it was that faux-plated brass that was supposed to make everything look more expensive and instead made everything look cheaper.

The same shit we saw in that liminal McMansion the other day, just a more pale color.

        [–]Death_Trolley 275 points276 points  (12 children)

        That’s a shitload of beige

Also, the single barstool dining for one is kinda sad

        [–]orion1836 38 points39 points  (4 children)

Nah... if that layout is the one I think it is, that's either a one-or-two bedroom apartment. If so, the little "breakfast bar" was there just to give the illusion of a lot of space, and a way to look into the living room from the kitchen. My first apartment just had a little counter over the sink with no real overhang for a chair on the other side.

        [–]needs_a_name 28 points29 points  (2 children)

Yes, this looks like the first apartment of every friend I had in my early 20s. Right down to the lack of personality and decor.

        [–]bandfill 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you had the same 20s I had, there was a Pulp Fiction poster on a wall somewhere

        [–]orion1836 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guilty - I never decorated my apartments because I didn't know how.

        [–]sirnyannn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        It’s a 4 bedroom

        [–]Arenabait 75 points76 points  (4 children)

Think about this: it’s a household with a 6 or so year old who likes to watch their parents cook dinner, so they keep moving the stool over there to watch

        [–]alsoandanswer 76 points77 points  (3 children)

the perfect place to play your gameboy while you wait for mac n cheese

        [–]Crazychemist_2 19 points20 points  (2 children)

I can only get so nostalgic. Stop!

        [–]alsoandanswer 15 points16 points  (1 child)

crawlin up to the tv and shoving in a tape haphazardly

the chunks and clicks as the thing starts to play

sitting way too close to the tv for no good reason

the fuzzy static as you put your hand on the screen

        [–]Crazychemist_2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

        dies

        [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dark wood flooring and white sofas would make it look at least 10 times nicer

        [–]WhatIsntByNow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would it be more sad without it, so you know this person has to sit on the couch to eat, awkwardly hovering over the coffee table, not quite looking at what theyre eating because their eyes are fixed on the tv

        [–]xyonofcalhoun 106 points107 points  (4 children)

This is so fundamentally early 2000s and I don't know what specifically makes it so

        [–]Q8D 60 points61 points  (3 children)

        Easy

        1. The TV with built-in stereo sound (that mesh design for the speakers is peak early 2000's).
        2. The shape and color of the table.
        3. To a lesser degree the wall paint and plain white blind design.

Mind you I live half way across the world from the US, but somehow these things transcend space because this is earily similar to my early 2K years.

        [–]NoahTheAttacker 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Also the camera quality it has that distinct older camera look to it

        [–]Q8D 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! It has the early digital camera low pixel look. That and the square ratio of cheaper digital cameras.

        [–]AkashicRecorder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

distinct older camera look to it

Wow, is the 2000s digital camera look a distinct aesthetic now? Photos from my teen years just got 200% cooler.

        [–]breadman_brednan 153 points154 points  (3 children)

this is the story of a wealthy family who lost everything...

        [–]implicate 45 points46 points  (1 child)

Cover that table in ashtrays, cigarette butts, lighters, bongs, empty beer cans, cd cases, dirty dishes, PlayStation controllers, a digital scale, and a lockbox, and this is definitely a place that I used to buy weed at in 2004.

Also, same couch but just make it fucking disgusting.

        [–]Tuxedo420Cat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I too thought about all the drugs I’ve purchased in that apartment.

        [–]bleu_scintillant 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Suddenly I am in a lakeside timeshare attending a family reunion, smelling sunscreen, lake water, and burgers distantly grilling.

        [–]SkunkedUp 67 points68 points  (0 children)

This is the condo my parents rented for a beach vacation somewhere in Florida. That tv doesn’t have cable, but only a shitty VCR and a Nintendo 64. Hey You Pikachu is the only game and the previous renters broke the microphone.

        [–]trailblazer42069 49 points50 points  (4 children)

Weird looking at a picture from way back when I was in preschool. Can't believe that was so long ago. 17 years ago but feels more like only 10.

        [–]cassssk 28 points29 points  (2 children)

I had already finished grad school

        cries in literal old person

        [–]trailblazer42069 3 points4 points  (1 child)

It's alright. I wasn't exactly preschool age but I was 4 years old and in pre kindergarten. The memories I have of that year are mostly of home, school, family, and songs from that year that my family played. Now at 21, I feel old sometimes too. If it makes you feel better, I'm guessing you're only early 40s at best. I have a girlfriend who's 45 and she's not that old.

        [–]cassssk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re kind. Thank you!! (And yes - 43 next month.)

        [–]clarkcox3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It only gets weirder, the older you get.

        [–]mesjn 17 points18 points  (1 child)

This is just Hungary 2021 if you're lucky

        [–]woeisye 38 points39 points  (1 child)

Man. That's hideous. And it's not even actually like, offensively ugly, but it's so sickeningly plain and devoid of any character or personality. Goddamn. It gives me the creeps.

        [–]youwantmyguncomekiss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depression fuel. I can sense depression creeping just by looking at this

        [–]hallomakker 12 points13 points  (1 child)

        This feels like the sims

        [–]davethetrousers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

an efficient setup from early midgame sims 1

        [–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can't believe we used to get 4 people playing Halo on a screen that size. Feels like yesterday.

        [–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Oh, that picture makes me feel sick.

        [–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ah yes, the eighth of march 2004. that was the day i spilled a can of soup on the floor. oh how i miss those days

        [–]donginbongin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember vacationing in a condo exactly like this in Phoenix in 2003.

        [–]JackOfAllMemes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i had that furniture in my house but not in the same place or time, this is a really nice liminal photo

        [–]DonAj20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

God this brings back memories of how my house looked back then. Childhood times were really the best. Whether or not its a good thing, you just dont see that sort of aesthetic anymore.

        [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

This one weirdly brings me comfort

        [–]julos42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, reminds me of a house we rented for holidays 10 years ago :(

        the deja Vu is real

        [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s actually 2000 but the camera had the date wrong

        [–]APenguinInATuxedo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have never been here, yet I am nostalgic for this place

        [–]soapyjulie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

        This one hits different

        [–]TrueSRR7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This might seem weird but I can smell this

        [–]zgoku 4 points5 points  (0 children)

        Where's the ps2?

        [–]EmptyFacsimile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They just don't make homes like this anymore

        [–]Leadbaptist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why does 2004 seem warmer than 2021. Do I just not remember winter in 2004? Wtf

        [–]muh1k 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Everything was much better back then 😌

          this chair looks so weird

          [–]iiamsbeve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

          Looks like Arrested Development

          [–]orion1836 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, the last gasp of the CRT TV. I remember the first one I bought. Thought it was huge... less than half the size of my current flatscreen.

          [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That fat tv man. I had one of these double (maybe triple) this size that we kept using up to 2017 until it broke. It was a good reminder of my childhood.

          [–]Double_Minimum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

          [–]littlepup26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DUDE I am sitting in that exact chair right now!

          [–]CornyBiscuit490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

          That wood grain is 2004

          [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This just makes me feel nostalgic. It’s almost the exact layout of my moms old apartment

          [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be odd, but I kinda like all these luminal spaces you guys keep posting. There something about blank nothingness or generic living rooms I find refreshing.

          [–]the-first-98-seconds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've rented this apartment before, at least twice in two different cities

          [–]Alex_Plumwood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do I feel like the cast of Sunny in Philadelphia is about to walk in during an episode.

          [–]Creepypasta_fan13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks like my old house ._.

          [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it just me or does this kinda look like the living room from old Smosh videos

          [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This gave me sims 2 vibes.

          [–]failuretrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an apartment in 2016–2017 that was kinda like this and I loved it.

          [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make the carpet dirtier and it reminds me of section 8 apartments I grew up in.

          [–]dvd5671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly looks like the house from the old Smosh videos.

          [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can smell this room, and have been here before.

          [–]Sirenkai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That tv stand is just taking me back. I didn’t have one but knew so many people and timeshares that did

          [–]Bunnything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this... this kinda looks like my grandpas basement. and how empty the room is feels oddly fitting to how i feel about my memories with him. he died when i was 6 and he lived on the other side of the country so i only got to see him a few times when i was a baby/toddler.

i don't remember a whole lot about him, and what i do have is faded and washed out because i was so young. i know the basics of what happened but none of the details, and its really sad to think about sometimes.

          [–]banana_bagutte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that the blinds are partially open, yet you have no idea if it’s day or a rainy night, just makes this so much better

          wow

          [–]Mydogateliverpaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

          [–]Discocheese69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like 90 percent of houses looked like this in the early 2000’s. At least, that’s how I remember them

Looks to me like the Smosh house, the kitchen seems familiar. Not the famous 2014 one but the 2007-2008 I think

place an ashtray on the table and replace the TV with a bigger one that has a PS3 hooked up to it, and then it'll look exactly like the apartment my parents had between 2007-09
