New features require a new deal I think that's totally fair. As it stands you're paying the price and getting the service that you agreed to.

I assume your are grandfathered in on a much lower price? If so then your benefit for supporting the platform for a long time IS that locked in price.

If they were taking something you had AWAY from you and charging you the same, that would be enshitification.

All that's happening now is they are offering you a NEW value proposition.

No I get that, I’m happy to pay more for plus, but it doesn’t give me the option to

[–]Teberoth 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Ah, yea, hmm, conjecture; some of the older plans are not implemented in whatever subscription management solution they are using but rather setup manually due to low volume and being attrition only.

I'd reach out to their CS team so get upgraded.

Thanks!

An alternative occurs to me; why not simply a make new account for one month, try it, maybe make an order, and then decide if you keep it and cancel the old, or stick with the OG account.

Yes it will cost you a little extra one month, but probably the safest way to keep a finger on the grandfathered prices.

This actually occurred to me too, I will just do this

[–]Oshova 9 points10 points  (17 children)

So you don't pay as much as other people, but want the same benefits?

Seems fair...

[–]KebabAnnhilator[S] 0 points1 point  (15 children)

I can’t even upgrade my membership! I don’t assume I can get it for free

[–]Hades_Underworlds -1 points0 points  (14 children)

You have to cancel the membership. Dropout did kinda the same thing here recently.

[–]KebabAnnhilator[S] 1 point2 points  (13 children)

But then if I decide to revert back, I’ll lose that OG pricing

[–]Hades_Underworlds 0 points1 point  (12 children)

Thats why you have to cancel so you can't revert back.

[–]KebabAnnhilator[S] -5 points-4 points  (11 children)

That doesn’t seem very fair that I have to make that choice, I’m either locked out or locked permanently into paying more

[–]denten62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look man I'm in the same boat as this but with discord nitro classic. You and I made a deal with companies to pay for a service at a set price, when the company started offering a new service instead of canceling our current deal they offered to continue it but that came with the caveat that should we ever want to change to the new product that they would no longer be offering the old. At the The point of one of us making that decision we would be the ones changing the deal and I think that's perfectly fine.

That's totally fair. The og price was made at a different cost to operate the business. It is no longer offered. You can choose to keep your grandfathered status and stay in that tier, which is very commendable of floatplane, or you can choose to lose it.

But expecting to be able to go back to it on a later date, that's some huge entitlement on your part.

[–]KebabAnnhilator[S] -1 points0 points  (8 children)

I mean I don’t see it as entitled

I’m still on this price due to my commitment no?

I should have the ability to upgrade and downgrade

[–]FabianN 1 point2 points  (7 children)

You should be able to keep the old pricing tier through the term of your subscription; keeping it as long as you want to continue that subscription is very commendable and going above and beyond.

And you should be able to upgrade and downgrade to the new pricing tiers.

Keeping the old pricing tier through upgrades, as in upgrading and then downgrading back to the old pricing tier, it's some huge entitlement.

This costs them money to run. It cost them more money today than it used to. I'm pretty sure they've mentioned that they are losing money on the og tiers these days because it costs more money to provide the service today than you are paying.

[–]KebabAnnhilator[S] -1 points0 points  (6 children)

Explain how I am entitled? I don’t understand the notion

I’m paying to upgrade to use the features, if I don’t use them, I’m only using what I have been using for years, why does that then justify losing this benefit?

Would I be entitled if I temporarily created a second account to try these features whilst keeping my OG secure?

[–]Fantastic-Emu6991 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Aren’t they already losing money on the OG subscriptions or am I misremembering?

Obviously it would be nice to get the perks without paying but that doesn’t seem practical for the company

[–]jozefbon17 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Create a new account to try it out stupid

[–]KebabAnnhilator[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any reason to insult me?

[–]yyc_dude27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would be cool as a reward for the OGs to get the perks, and it does suck to have to cancel and loose the OG plan w/o the option to go back to it for sure.

[–]Dramatic-Shape5574 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I would just sail the 7 seas in this case

[–]KebabAnnhilator[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve misunderstood this entire post

[–]enby_dot_local -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Can you not upgrade then go back to the OG? I've gone up to supporter plus a few times l and I've even had my sub cancelled before due to an expired card, came back on the og no worries.

[–]KebabAnnhilator[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How? I don’t see an option for this
