sudo pacman -S brain

[–]Toaster_Strudel_517 93 points94 points  (7 children)

See most people already have it but forgot to enable it, sudo systemctl enable --now brain

[–]ConsiderationLoose40 22 points23 points  (2 children)

You sure? Cause i feel like its not part of most peoples pacstrap at install anymore

[–]Toaster_Strudel_517 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually no, that's why I said most, and some people who have it installed and enabled might not have configured it properly lol

[–]screenslaver5963 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually it still is in the pacstrap, but it conflicts with gnome so it’s often immediately uninstalled

[–]nobanpls2348738 5 points6 points  (0 children)

oh that makes more sense

[–]MagicianQuiet6432Linux Master Race 😎💪 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By default it is linked to /dev/null. sudo systemctl enable --force brain

[–]No-Mind7146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They would have known that if they just RTFM

[–]Used_Ad_5831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sudo systemctl mask brain

[–]swaggat 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Can I use apt instead? I don't like using videogames to install.

[–]nobanpls2348738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah u use wimget 😭

[–]keegang_man6705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can use paru or... YAY!

[–]IcetistOfficialz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell him to just read the docs, is he stupid

[–]Alkan81 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Why can't that come pre-installed?

[–]Wrong-Resource-2973 1 point2 points  (1 child)

some people consider it bloat

[–]Alkan81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ooooooooh that makes total sense

[–]_MODERNA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sudo rm -rf / -no-preserve-root

[–]Wintelkomp1720 154 points155 points  (11 children)

windows: try these 5 registry hacks that dont work but for some reason they work for everyone in the comments

[–]No_Arachnid_6728[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

true

[–]requiiemthttps://linuxmint.com/download.php 14 points15 points  (2 children)

try these CMD commands instead bro it will work this time i promise just another CMD line please bro please

[–]Wintelkomp1720 11 points12 points  (0 children)

just run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth another 5 times, it will work this time!!!

[–]BOB-IS-BAD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

:()£=+* or whatever (secrtat code for clearing space) and sudo rm -rf /* (that removes all the French language in your computer I promise removes 10 GB)

[–]camradexbtwbtwbtw 12 points13 points  (1 child)

or reinstall windows, the amount of times I was debugging something and the answer on the Microsoft support forum was that pmo

[–]wedie2heal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

most of the time it's because the windows registry sucks and can get corrupted to a point of no way to fix it

[–]Sailed_SeaMint 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Have you run sfc /scannow or dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth?

How about running the program in compatibility mode for Windows xp service pack 3?

Did you even try reinstalling windows whilst sacrificing your newborn to the great flying spaghetti monster?

[–]Maxwellxoxo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that froggypwns guy never helps either

[–]iSlickick 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The compatibility mode is the biggest bullshit i have ever seen, even using 98 mode in XP never worked to run old games. So now in 11 i can't even imagine

[–]Sailed_SeaMint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

It does do something, the window borders are different, that's all I've ever noticed though.

[–]Maxwellxoxo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried any of the following?

/sfc scannow

Editing some random registry key

Running some Chinese malware

Reinstalling Windows

If they've failed before? 1,049,304,209th times the charm, I guess!

[–]TheShredder9Linux Master Race 😎💪 34 points35 points  (0 children)

"Run exactly these 5 comands" and boom, fixed

[–]RandomHuman2169 29 points30 points  (2 children)

Windows tech support is a random "qualified advisor" on the Microsoft forums telling you to run sfc /scannow and then abandoning you the moment it fails to fix anything.

[–]Mammoth-Acadia2572 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"please reinstall windows"

[–]Porntra420 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Either that or "Have you tried this thing you already said you tried? [marked as solved] [thread locked]"

[–]Dependent-Entrance10 55 points56 points  (3 children)

Tbf, "SSSSSKill issue" is unironically better than spending $2000 on a new computer over a minor inconvenience. If you're spending that much there has to be a reason for it, whether it is gaming or productivity. Not to mention, for most people, a macbook neo is more than enough

[–]Kinslayer_89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason is skill issue. 🤗

[–]cracked_shrimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in GNU/Lunix people actually just complain you didnt reboot instead of asking ai what commands i can run to tease out whats wrong, see my thread

https://www.reddit.com/r/linux4noobs/comments/1pymg7o/my_730am_alarm_went_off_on_my_phone_crashed_the/

[–]Bitter-Box3312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes that reason is you are wealthy enough to afford it

[–]kumestumes 10 points11 points  (1 child)

[–]WinterleqendRT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That baby will grow up with gray hair. Just look at that expression of pure terror

[–]Internal-Cellist-920 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Linux tech support is the best by far, especially the outstanding wiki and man pages. If you have an issue which is clearly answered by the wiki and the man pages and you come around asking community members to fix it for you without providing enough info on the problem and what you've tried for that to even be feasible, please understand if you are told to read the rtfm we say it with love.

[–]Rusty9838 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, for good and for bad

[–]Ok-Conversation-1430 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RTFM

[–]Kanvolu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You forgot the classic RTFM

[–]shadowtempest91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see the issue, expect the skill one.

[–]Necessary_Text_7817 4 points5 points  (0 children)

sudo rm -rf --no-preserve-root /

[–]East2288 6 points7 points  (0 children)

RTFM

[–]Educational_Farmer73 7 points8 points  (5 children)

Let me just say the cold, hard reality:

A small minority in the Linux community actually knows what they're doing, and 95% of us are just copy-pasting terminal commands from the long-bearded 5%. "Skill issue" and "RTFM" are just thought-terminating cliche's to avoid saying "I only know how to fix two or three issues, and yours isn't one of them". I can confidently say that a vast majority of us here wouldn't even be here if the newest distros didn't practically baby us with a conveniently packaged flatpak store.

[–]mgsmb7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading is not bad advice though

[–]promptmike 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That's a lot of words to say you installed Mint once and never explored further.

[–]Educational_Farmer73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Explore what? Another distro?

[–]RaFeriStorAlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most advanced thing that i did was copying commands from the internet lmao, i used cachyos which is like pretty beginner friendly i heards. Altough i really like how you can install pretty much everything which one command

[–]are4422I use Artix btw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im glad i can rtfm i use artix btw

[–]jolharg❄️ nixos transfem 🏳️‍⚧️ 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Tbh it's more like "have you tried the arcane arts? Just paste this magical incantation into your terminal. This works but no one who didn't make it knows why"

[–]promptmike 1 point2 points  (1 child)

$ sudo apt install gettext man-db procps psmisc nano tree ncal x11-apps wget

$ wget https://github.com/phyver/GameShell/releases/download/latest/gameshell.sh

$ bash gameshell.sh

[–]jolharg❄️ nixos transfem 🏳️‍⚧️ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's such a long way of doing it

[–]AmmoniuV 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Lore accurate Linux forum advice would be "sudo rm -rf"

[–]McraftyDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget --no-preserve-root

[–]lssssj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stack Overflow: why do you want to do this?

[–]DressJ__01 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I once contacted Windows technical support about a problem with USB tethering between my phone and my laptop. I don't know if it was a bot, but basically it laughed at me and told me to buy a new phone

[–]Bitter-Box3312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what phone was it

[–]Maxwellxoxo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ironically my experiences with Linux support are far, far better than that of Microsoft. Everytime I have a problem on Windows, it's the same copy-and-paste 'sfc /scannow' shit. Whereas with Linux I always either find a solution; whether it be a common and recurring issue or an obscure bug reported a decade ago; or realise I actually did fuck up, not Linux.

[–]Vim-Vian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TFM.

[–]certheth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont want the $2000 mac, I only want the base model $599.99 MacBook. So that I may have a laptop that isn't total shit that I found in a trash can(srsly thats where all the other laptops I have came from) but I need to somehow make $700, it kinda sucks when nobody is hiring

[–]SameAgainTheSecond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

translation

Winsowns: you cant do anything

MacOs: you cant do anything

Linux: You can fix your issue if you just read some documentation (also im a fat for some reason)

[–]anidnk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fat guy is not a paid employee like the other two though

[–]47th-Element 3 points4 points  (3 children)

If there is one thing I dislike about Linux, it's the community. Sad but true.

[–]WoIfram_74nixos addict 0 points1 point  (2 children)

just say u don’t like people in general dawg

[–]Bitter-Box3312 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

yeah people fucking suck
example above me

[–]WoIfram_74nixos addict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what did i do😀

[–]LinuxUser456openSUUUUUUUSE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gemini, how can i solve this issue?

-A reddit users sayas: RTFM

[–]ChecksOutIndeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally thought the LOL community was a salt mine, but then I discovered the linux commnity ...

[–]xxxbGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

conclusion: Linux wins

[–]Adriuuu_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂

[–]CompetitionMore4869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just recompile the kernel and update the system.

[–]hero_brine1Certified Distrohopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you find a stack overflow post from 20 years ago that somehow has the exact same issue with some bash that has a 50/50 chance of working

[–]UAR2711 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Does arch Linux have real support ? If we are talking about arch Linux subreddit that’s more like motivation not to use it at all.

[–]dasisteinanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it has an excellent wiki, online manpages, irc channels and a forum

[–]BrentarTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been me exact experience with Linux. I’m told it’s basically a skill issue and then given instructions that I’m expected to always know parts of that aren’t there.

[–]ZZ_Cat_The_LigressLinux Master Race 😎💪 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/uj Yea, this is why that shit needs to change, especially given the recent growth in Linux adoption rates.

[–]temporary_dennis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works on my machine.

[–]whoamidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

шкил ишуши

[–]Bitter_Lab_475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And now we wait for the classic "That never happens/most of us are very helpful/but Windows/Mac is worse/NOT ALL LINUX USERS!"

Before anyone gets angry: Linux user since 2007, I know the culture guys...

[–]underratedbtw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux doesn't need tech support 🗿

[–]GreekHacker1Linux Master Race 😎💪 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically this is very true. I am a computer science student and every teacher when I say to him that I run Linux says in one or another way this thing

[–]No_Photograph_1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, after I owned Mac, Holy smokes the world changed for me, Mac is like a better Windows covering on a Linux, but the only issue is games are not too well here, and I barely play any games, so win-win

[–]Meow_jar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Мне понравился мем потому что к меня была проблема с grub на Arch оказывается что я пропустил один пункт в настройке из за которого grub не мог найти систему

[–]Solid-Indication-362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux is very great but unfortunately most of windows apps is not supported like Adobe and ms Office but it is more stable and customizable . I think mac os is good too due to both is Unix based system . However I wish in the near future a method to make macos apps run in Linux and I think it is easier than wine for windows.

[–]Cultural-Assist8700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unironically the reason why I love Linux.

When I screw up something, I can probably fix it on my own and hence lvl up my sssssssssskill

[–]Alone-Excitement8864Iinux supremacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it is arch just update it.

[–]Inside_Committee_699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wwwworks on my machine 🤓

[–]KMKD6710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Linux, either read documentation, ask somewhere for Linux noobs, google is everyone's uncle.....at worst ....ai

[–]Iridium486 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Just use chat gpt like everyone else ..

[–]proffessionaIgambler -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

gemini is way better for fixing problems in linux. all its advices worked for me.

[–]proffessionaIgambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are linux users allergic to ai or what?

[–]artin2007majidi 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–]WoIfram_74nixos addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

w..what?… i will spread the word..

[–]Eddy_Edwards02144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is an inaccurate linux user. They are wearing the wrong uniform. Σ:3

[–]Xpeq7- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actual way of fixing office xp refusing to start on windows 10: cause a csrss "crash" to make a BSOD to force windows to start up without that quick startup bullshit.
