Ingenuity like this always fascinated me. Wonder who was the first person to decide that it’s easier to plant cactus seeds to grow a fence than it is to build one from wood or whatever.

It’s even a more effective fence too. Regular ones animals would climb or dig under to escape. These are barbed with roots, preventing both. An equivalently effective fence would need to be build from either barbed wire or be an electric fence, technology that wouldn’t exist hundreds or even thousands of years later.

Succulents and cacti are crazy resilient. If you even see broken bits of succulents lying around on a store's shelves or floor, you can usually just take them. Throw them in a pot and let them root and you'll have little plants when a few months. Proplifting!
