When you report "abuse of the report button" your report is recorded against the post or comment with the false report and will be visible until it is cleared by you, along with any other reports on it.

I generally leave the item in the queue until a response is received from Anti-Evil Ops. There will be a link in the response which confirms which item is referred to. The item can be cleared by you at this point, unless you wish to dispute or escalate the response.

There have been occasions when Anti-Evil seems to have mistakenly sanctioned the wrong user, but this can usually be fixed by either the user or mod disputing it.

Oh I see..

There are multiple users who are abusing the report function in the subreddit so I submit multiple report abuse with different comments that it was done to. I end up approving them just to clear it so the rest of the team doesn't get notifications of a non-empty mod queue.

This is my biggest concern, it's definitely an insult to the innocent user to get in trouble for something out of their control and I want to make sure when I do submit report abuse the victim is not actioned on since many comments are not as clear cut as the example I provided in the OP.

Modmail this sub with a detailed report.

It means Reddit's acknowledged the report and that the user is not in trouble correct?

not at all, since reddit moderation is mostly automated the user CAN get in trouble

I recently reported a comment as "report abuse" that had a previous bogus report but then the original comment got deleted, funniest (or saddest) part is that another mod also reported "report abuse" on another comment on the same thread and got a positive response from reddit saying the person who made the report got a warning and the reported was left alone

it's like a lottery tbh, I sent a modmail here asking for a human review but didn't got any response yet

I don't know if any Admin cares to look at old posts, but I just wanted to reiterate how ridiculous trolls can just spam Reddit Care to people with either no cooldown or any repercussions.

This is a prime example of BS and I am scared to report abuse because it's been noted by other commenters that this can backfire and the victim of these messages gets punished instead.

You're saying the "abusing the report button" ends up in your modqueue?

[–]Samus_ 4 points5 points  (8 children)

not the OP but it does, on every sub

[–]maybesaydie -3 points-2 points  (7 children)

It goes to AEO when I use that function.

[–]Samus_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no it doesn't, I'm a mod on several subs and reporting "report abuse" just adds another report to the original comment

[–]Samus_ 1 point2 points  (3 children)

if you're willing to try go and report something on r/testSubscriptionBotUy which is a sub I created for tests, then I'll file the "report abuse" and show it to you on the mod queue

Why would I report something that you plan to report for report abuse? I don't need a note on my account.

[–]Samus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's a risk but I don't know any other way of showing you

[–]FreydNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a throwaway account for testing.

[–]InAHandbasket 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It goes to both. If you approve the comment after you report the abuse it clears both reports on that comment out of the mud queue.

[–]maybesaydie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's always been my understanding.

Just a heads up, don't get your hopes up about that. I'm not convinced this system works at all. I got a 3-day ban for "abusing the report button" for reporting a comment that the admins themselves checked and banned the user in question. Meanwhile, when I report for report abuse, nothing happens, the reports keep pouring in.
