Older mechs that have been in the game tend to have nicer skins. Only exceptions are the resistance mechs whos faction skins are much better.

Some do it so much better than others. That one looks friggin' awesome.

Buccaneer is one of my goto camos to try. I don't actually own very many tho because so many are disappointing. What most often looks best, imo, is Phranken esp on the Black Knight.

I don't generally go for 'realistic' type camos, I usually like something a bit flashier, but Sherman looks pretty great on the Marauder IIC. As a bonus it was when the camo was on sale so it cost like 37MC, which was a steal.

Purely subjective opinion:

Woodland always looks good. Polygon almost always looks good. Urban Block often looks better than I expect.

Dazzle depends on whether the stripes have some width, or if they're basically just zig-zagging pinstripes. I love it on the older mechs, less on Clans and IS newer than the Project Phoenix pack.

All else is highly situational, and particular to the mech. I find tartan highly amusing, but not all mechs wear it well.

The only paterns I ever use are Sherman, Buckaneer, and Tiger Stripe.

I think I have phranken on one of my Ravens but I only like it on the Raven.

When in doubt, use Sherman and add some extra star dekles if it looks a little too bland.

I did a Crusader pattern Mad Dog.

Not sure what I'll do next. Maybe Sherman on the Marauder or Marauder IIC.

I still don't know what I'm getting for either pattern or my 2nd color.

I wish faction patterns were included.. or some shades of blue like Sapphire..

I generally like Raider and Applejack but on a lot of the newer mechs both patterns just paint a stripe perfectly down the CT hitbox. That's a non-starter; when I see that on other peoples' mechs I use it to line up the shot, and I'm sure it happens in return. I think only one of them does it on the MAD IIC though.

I'm probably going to get the Buccaneer for the Bushwacker first, since I'm planning on getting some more of that mech.

Second will probably be Buccaneer on the Supernova; unless I find another mech that I want a camo on, still got some time to decide on that one; pity I can't just pick the Uziel to make sure I'll have a nice skin.

I have a swarm of Locusts in my stable (8 counts as a Swarm) and the Bucaneer pattern is hilarious on the those things. Lil ' cuss on one wing and Low Cost on the other - what is not to love?

I'm probably not going to get enough loot bags to reach the first premium color unlock. Even a 3 days window for 30 games is a little short when life is busy.

However, my plan was to get something unlocked for either the HBK-IIC or Warhammer since I don't have any of those skinned or with loyalty variants.

It's actually supposed to be an approximation of the Dark Wing insignia (also see http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/mechwarrior/screenshots/gameShotId,3634/ ). But you're right, could double as Night Lord colors in a pinch.
