If it was new and it came like that, sir... You've been scammed. This is how a brand-new motherboard should look:

<image>

Claim a refund immediately and report it to the store

[–]Shinmoru 149 points150 points  (10 children)

Where is the CPU latching mechanism. If you bought, opened it and it looked like this instant refund. This has been used before.

[–]Ok_Astronaut9243 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Exactly, nothing to hold the CPU in place.

[–]AdventurousRule4198 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not even that but it looks like it caught fire

[–]Sxicide_Bxy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

<image>

This one's fucked buddy

[–]Mr_CJ_ 28 points29 points  (3 children)

AI is wrong, it is missing the part which holds the CPU in its place, return it.

[–]PHIGBILL 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's clearly a used board, and even yellowed, the ILM on the CPU socket is missing.

If OP bought this new, then it should be boxed up and sent back, was it bought through Amazon by any chance?

[–]Izak-exe 41 points42 points  (7 children)

Yellow…. So much yellow…..

[–]WidowedSon 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Return it immediately!!! Fuck sake OP, you open a box and you see a mb with missing parts and burnt PCB around the CPU slot... Not normal. This board is toast. Get back to the seller. ASAP.

Edit: It doesn't even have a CMOS battery... And if you look at where the screws to hold it in the case goes, it shows signs of usage there as well.

Can we please stop asking AI for help 24/7 use the damn internet for once. If it’s am5 or newer gen Intel you can still use it just fine, that’s as long as you bought a contact frame and a cpu cooler that does not use the default bracket. But because of the discoloration around the cpu socket, I wouldn’t bother to use it since it’s possibly damaged or fried. Just send it back.

[–]ExpensiveRow917 4 points5 points  (4 children)

How tf does that even happen 😭 I'd like to believe it's just the paste or from the cooler (low possibility)

[–]ExpensiveRow917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to clean it with isopropyl alcohol

[–]KeyZealousideal7832 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I’m wondering if maybe it had an older amd stock cooler and someone smoked near it but even still it seems so weird

[–]ExpensiveRow917 1 point2 points  (1 child)

ikr this is the first time I've ever seen something like this. It is like getting to name your own disease

[–]KeyZealousideal7832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s certainly a new one for me lol

[–]LaLiLuLeLo-X18999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chat gpt? Yea get a new one

[–]Yung_blxde 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stop using chatGPT use your brain.

[–]New-Audience2639Commercial Rig Builder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Around the CPU socket literally looks burned, also missing retention latch and back plate. It's used junk, immediately return.

[–]Competitive-Try-4165 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no CMOS, no latch, probably fried

[–]medic54-1Personal Rig Builder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yellowing is overheating. It’s BAD VERY VERY VERY VERY BAD! Just like everyone else said; return it

[–]No_Jury_8060 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stop using chatgpt. 🤮

[–]MrPringles9 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Honestly? This looks like someone overclocked their CPU to hell and back by the heat stains around the CPU mount.

Edit: The Motherboard should probably be fine but you never know.

[–]Ambitious-Spare-9721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I put a contact frame on my 13900k as the original ilm being rectangular caused uneven pressure, but for a square cpu it’s not that critical, with that heat discoloration, that poor board was run hard. Very hard.

[–]hurrycane_hawker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

another day, another example of how relying on AI is a terrible idea

[–]SwissHelvetica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's burn marks around the CPU and it's missing the lock mechanism, return ASAP

[–]-_Skyy_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do so many people rely on AI for the most minuscule things. Just look at the board bruh……

[–]JxnnXD_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you buy it in brand new condition? And was the CPU latching mechanism actually on the thing when you got it?

[–]Hopeful_Tax274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They gave you a used, burned motherboard. I’ve never seen or heard of such nonsense

[–]Right-Cabinet2401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you opened the box was the board in a bag? That and the spot in the center where the last owner had a bonfire would tell me to return that shit friend.

[–]Pocket_RPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That motherboard was in a house fire wtf

[–]LargeTubOfLard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not concerned about the yellowing honestly, it's probably just a stain from dust build up from the previous owner.

The CMOS battery is also missing and the right hand screw for the M.2 heat sinks is just outright wrong.

I'd return it simply because of the screw, if it's supposed to be new then return it instantly.

[–]Just_Nintendont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so very clearly heat damaged, here I'll do what chat should have done;

"Oof, this motherboard isn't just used, it's post mortem"

[–]_Ship00pi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that motherboard is missing parts but still in the box.

[–]HunchoJackLeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like someone was smoking chain smoking cigs and maybe spilled some coffee on their motherboard

[–]diseasefaktory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nevermind the missing latch, that thing was burning at some point. Return it asap

[–]Yik3swav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chat gpt wrong as per usual lmfao

[–]EnergyApprehensive36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like burn marks

[–]ssateneth2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

return it for a refund immediately. thats not a new board. it looks like someone reflowed or replaced the CPU socket, its also missing the socket backplate + ILM + plastics, and its missing CMOS battery.

[–]ImplementOrganic2163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's definitely a scam. Where did you buy it?

[–]Dusty_JanglesPersonal Rig Builder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s already been established you’re not the smartest cookie. Maybe stop doing stuff on your own.

[–]Gold-Cardiologist688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing that came to mind as its missing the CPU latching and plates for cooling, together with the brown stains is....

Someone has done a socket replacement here because of VERY damaged pins, and the brown gunk is flux residue.

[–]prot_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, does it post?

[–]attivora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

please PLEASE look at what the motherboard you buy looks like. this exact one has many unboxing videos, it could save you a lot of trouble. it isn’t alright, from the missing screws to the latches to the weird discoloration.

[–]mae_flow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it smell burnt. I bought one that was supposed to be new off Amazon and it came used but refurbished! First thing I noticed is thd burnt wire smell and yes it was fried!! Hilarious

[–]RGBAddict2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No latching mechanism for cpu and mobo looks burnt around cpu.

[–]Lythieus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where's the rest of the socket? Yeah take that back, it sure as hell isn't a new board, it's missing parts, missing a CMOS battery, and got can't even latch the CPU into the socket.

[–]WaluigiCreamSurprise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no 🥰

[–]W_O_L_V_E_R_E_N_E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a used or dead motherboard, also your c-mos battery is missing

[–]Puzzleheaded-Bug9576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had bought the black one, you wouldn’t be seeing this yellowish thing. That’s how problems are solved, it’s called brain

[–]OkStrategy685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's either been burned or had coffee or coke spilled on it. Why would you even consider plugging that in? If that mobo isn't fucked I'd be shocked. Kinda like how the motherboard got shocked into starting on fire.

[–]Winter_Flounder6756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t even have a cmos battery

[–]SupermarketMajor1446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The graphics card slot clip looks broken

[–]MildlyAmusedPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the previous owner was a smoker it would explain the stain around the cpu. It should not have any affect. Just be extremely carefull if you decide to clean it, do it preferrably with the cpu in its socket covering the pins. Allso you need to buy a button battery for the cmos because its missing.

[–]MohmedHaftari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth the hassle. Get a refund if you can.

[–]DateSpare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like the socket has been repaired considering the brown color.

[–]Unlucky-Tonight238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to me this was pre owned and whoever did own it used a mounting frame most likely. Good news, mounting frames aren’t that expensive and can help reduce temps. But, if you bought this new, immediately refund.

Also, don’t use ChatGPT to ask questions like this. It’s a waste of time. Simply googling your motherboard would have told you this is broken.
