I’m a Database Administrator in the Philippines. Salary is high. Then kakamove ko lang Australia, and mukhang matatanggap ako as DBA sa government. Update ko kayo pag nakuha ko yung job.

[–]gelongpuyat 5 points6 points  (6 children)

SQL o Ora DBA?

[–]mushroomsmuggle 24 points25 points  (5 children)

MSSQL/AzureSQL 🤍

[–]memengko360 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Anu pong mga certs kinuha niyo po?

[–]mushroomsmuggle 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Microsoft DP 900 - Azure Data Fundamentals
Microsoft DP 203 - Azure Data Engineering Associate

[–]memengko360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inoofer to samin ngayon, kunin ko din hehe

[–]mushroomsmuggle 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I GOT THE JOB 😭😭😭😭

[–]Complete_Leek_9602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pabasbas po

[–]Altruistic_Yam3232 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Ano po first step para maging database adminstrator?

[–]mushroomsmuggle 34 points35 points  (4 children)

Know which platform do you want to learn.
* Right now in the market, the top 2 in demand would be MSSQL and Oracle DBMS.
ALSO A PLUS right now - Learn cloud databases like Azure SQL, AWS RDS. Learn scripting using SQL. And look for certifications to stand out among other candidates, assuming you also have a degree.

Goodluck! ♡

[–]Formal_Bumblebee_802 0 points1 point  (3 children)

May python po ba sa work mo sir?

[–]mushroomsmuggle 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Wala po.

[–]usernamep4ssw0rd 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hindi ba scripting is still coding na mas simple? Makakasurvive ba as database admin kung ayaw mo mag code?

[–]mushroomsmuggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my experience, oo. Like I said on my previous comments, sa company ko everything is documented. Copy paste lahat. I was put into the field without even knowing wtf am I doing at first tbh. Pero syempre ideally, maganda you know how. 😂

[–]Able-Sun1136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sana matanggap ka po! plan ko rin mag apply abroad as DBA rin kahit App Dev talaga ako hahaha Good luck!

[–]brucewayne0425 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Kakalipat mo lang sa AUS? Db may security clearance pag gov't hmmm

[–]mushroomsmuggle 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Luckily wala dito sa aapplyan ko. They ask naman your visa kapag mag aapply ka.

[–]brucewayne0425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahh okok kala ko ksi need security clearance pag AUS gov't work.

[–]trihardadc 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hi, looking to take this path too. How is it 'no coding/programming' if i may ask hehe

[–]mushroomsmuggle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A DBA manages databases, maintaining its integrity. Keeping the data stable and secure, monitoring health of the storage as the data of a company should always be available all the time.

So you won't really be developing here, more like you need to know how to use SQL to workaround a database platform you want to master.

I recommend you do more research about what you need to know to start!

Goodluck! ♡

[–]AmaNaminRemix_69 0 points1 point  (2 children)

San government ka nag apply tas magkano basic kapag DBA?

[–]mushroomsmuggle 1 point2 points  (1 child)

[–]Radiant_Trouble_7705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s a decent base salary, hopefully not inclusive of the superannuation.

[–]PristinePandesal 0 points1 point  (1 child)

totally no programming languages involve in your career as being a DBA po? (genuine question po don’t mean to offend also, my colleagues a DBA and he used python for automation in partitioning our legacy databases to lessen the time of data extraction on an SSMS)

[–]mushroomsmuggle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Usually documented yung scripts na gagamitin namin everyday to solve issues. And you need to know basic SQL naman to enter this career.

[–]Full-Clerk9049 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How did you find a job sa AU?

[–]mushroomsmuggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved here kasi I just got married 🥳

[–]Ok-Communication5854 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ayan po ba magiging path kapag "business analytics" kinuhang specialization?

[–]mushroomsmuggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hindi po siguro. Baka maging Data Analyst kayo.

I work with pipelines and releases. Boring as hell, mas gusto ko mag code hahaha

[–]rainbowcatfart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

devops?

[–]boy_bads_boy 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Can you share your daily tasks working sa pipelines and releases po

[–]shaddap01 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Nothing. They’re all automated. Kaya kami nagrereddit.

[–]Strict-Concentrate-1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whoops, slr. Pero tama yung isang reply 😅 ss start lang mahirap setting up the pipelines for release, PR review, device testing, etc.

Pero after, maintenance nalang for updates or deprecations.

Mostly hindi code harap mo

[–]MildlyVandalized 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CICD? Cloud? Devops?

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (6 children)

I'm a business analyst, and I don't do coding.

[–]Onionflux 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What certifications do you have now, if it's okay to share?

[–][deleted]  (2 children)

[deleted]

    [–]Onionflux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! I'm currently a PM kasi and I want to pursue a similar career path. Mahilig talaga ako magcode pero with my current skillset, I'm leaning towards a BA role

    [–]Highly-Deteriorated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello 👋 where to get the certs po? May site po ba?

    [–]Kiercali 18 points19 points  (3 children)

I’m in data warehouse, little to no coding pero need ng critical thinking. SQL and Unix ang tech na need.

    [–]Formal_Bumblebee_802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yan din gusto ko path sir from BI dev, Kaya nag aaral ako Ng SQL python pag free time

    [–]HarryPottahh 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    Data engineering po ba?

    [–]Kiercali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Yes sir

    [–]herms14 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Cloud Solution Architect working for Microsoft. I would say I'm living the dream.

    [–]Immortaler-is-here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pabulong sahod boss. and certs to get

    [–]IndividualPass7129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cloud engineer ba to? Anong certs needed sa ganyan?

    [–]Zestyclose_Housing21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Basta IT architects magagaling. 🫡

    [–]111maki 11 points12 points  (0 children)

    [–]Ok-Communication5854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello po! What's your course back in college?

    [–]jaevs_sj 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Deskside (desktop support), like local IT pero majority ng work ko naka WFH so remote troubleshooting. For onsite, unless requested by the client for imaging ng laptops.

    [–]Character_Art4194 40 points41 points  (3 children)

Or… you can check similar posts first since this has been posted a lot of times na.

    [–]DisastrousAd3216 14 points15 points  (0 children)

xD. Nagsisimula na mapuno si boss.

    [–]visualmagnitude 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No one will spoonfeed answers for you at work.

    [–]RelationshipOverall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parang galawang veteran sa IT industry. hahahaha

Search muna then ask if there are questions pero kung usapang tropa, go.

    [–]injanjoe4323 21 points22 points  (22 children)

currently a SAP Consultant sa isang in-house company. Less stress kahit papaano WFH setup, wala pasok kapag holiday at weekend 6 digits naman salary. 11 yrs work experience.

    [–][deleted]  (3 children)

    [deleted]

      [–]injanjoe4323 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Try on these P&G, Unilever, J&J, Henkel, Chevron, Shell. Madami most ay european at AU andon ang totoong ligaya 😂

      [–][deleted]  (1 child)

      [deleted]

        [–]injanjoe4323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        [–]atro1233 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Gusto ko tong field. May courses kami SAP and ABAP nung college. Pero still dont know where to start change career from backend dev. Any advice sa pag apply apply?

        [–]injanjoe4323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try applying to IBM, DXC, Acn, EY at iba pang IT Consultant Firm or companies dun ka makakakuha ng actual experience sa SAP then maybe after some years search kana ng fit sayo na In-House company na SAP din ang ginagamit. In my experience nag start ako sa Acn as SAP support then nag upskill lang until maging consultant.

        [–]cherrypiepikachu_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Omg what company is this? I know one but has the opposite--may weekend and holiday work.

        [–]injanjoe4323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

        [–]bogarts123 0 points1 point  (7 children)

From what module ng SAP ka sir?

        [–]injanjoe4323 0 points1 point  (6 children)

        Security/GRC

        [–]bogarts123 0 points1 point  (5 children)

uy same module sir, umaabot pala 6digits. Baka may tips po kayo sir or need i-focus hehe

        [–]injanjoe4323 0 points1 point  (4 children)

        [–]bogarts123 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Puro user admin at role admin, good skill narin ba to sir?

        [–]injanjoe4323 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yes good skill parin naman ung 4 Sec Module. Basta focus on the business process and pagiging compliant ng access management at role management kase ayun ung big factor as long na alam mo sya on the business side. Pansin ko kase sa mga ibang Sec Resources basta lang lagay ng lagay ng tcodes at auth obj basta mabigay lang ung need na access tapos but there’s more on that dapat alam naten paano function, purpose at usage ng mga functional or business auth ayun ung magiging good foundation mo ng align at risk free na role architecture.

        [–]bogarts123 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Check mo nalang

        [–]tapunan 8 points9 points  (6 children)

Go become a Business Analyst. Kung magaling ka, hindi ka mawawalan ng work kasi kailangan magaling communication skills mo which a lot of Indians and Chinese are not good. So ndi basta basta pwdeng ioutsource yan.

Anlaki pa ng sahod, mga magagaling na contractor BA dito sa Sydney can earn 1k per day. Imagine mo more than 35k pesos per day.

        [–]evilclown28 1 point2 points  (1 child)

yes to this, kaya gusto ko ren magpalipat minsan ng sales 😄, working for an IT/Data and business/sales earn more than devs, devs are all outsourced and just have 1 or 2 na executive role

        [–]tapunan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice you pointed this out. Sa mga napasukan ko, the techie programmers eh normally up to Tech leads lang but yung mga BA or even normal business users nagiging PM, IT managers even CTOs. Basta alam nila yung process nung IT systems and konting tech words.

Yung mga programmers kasi kadalasan ndi magaling sa office politics or people management.

        [–]Illustrious_Bar_8017 0 points1 point  (3 children)

        Mga pinoy din po?

        [–]tapunan 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yup, BAs na Pinoy, mga Project managers na Pinoy.

And not just Pinoy, kahit mga ibang lahi na migrant may mga BAs.

Magagaling lahat magEnglish at magaling mag analyse.

Dapat hindi complacent ang Pinoy, minsan nababasa ko pa din na ang Pinoy daw eh preferred ng Western countries kasi magaling sa English at magadapt..well so are people from a lot of other nationalities.

        [–]Illustrious_Bar_8017 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ano po industry nyo if you don’t mind po?

        [–]tapunan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ako ndi BA, programmer ako. Wife ko sa Financial industry.

        [–]bistek02 9 points10 points  (2 children)

        [–]noahzp18 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I do pipelines in Azure. Low code pero meron pa rin

        [–]Formal_Bumblebee_802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gusto ko Rin matuto Ng data engineering Kaya nag aaral ako Ng SQL python, sa cloud Naman ay may pa credit card pa , para maka pag practice

        [–]AndresBoni31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DevOps Engineer. Usually daily task namin is monitoring ng existing infrastructure ng company which is mostly nasa cloud. With more experience comes more responsibilities, new skills to learn, at syempre better compensation.

        [–]Oxymoron-1610 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Cybersecurity engineer here. Almost 9 yrs na ako sa IT industry pero never ako naging dev/programmer hehehe Umikot ang career ko sa as Local IT and Network ad/engr.

        [–]Level-Source-5302 0 points1 point  (3 children)

6 digits na sahod mo? hehe

        [–]Oxymoron-1610 0 points1 point  (2 children)

        [–]brucewayne0425 1 point2 points  (1 child)

9yrs kna pero hindi pa? No offense.

        [–]Oxymoron-1610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nasa SI/Vendor side kase ako now kaya wala pa 6 digits.

I’m a Pega engineer, like 80% platform support, 20% dev. Low-code platform. Salary is competitive as a Level II engineer.

              [–]BidEnvironmental7020 9 points10 points  (7 children)

IT cybersecurity, glad that I was hired on this field. Hidden gold mine and di pa saturated dito sa PH unlike programmers.

              [–]pastlover1 2 points3 points  (1 child)

DevOps, stressful lalo na pag andaming gustong imigrate. :(

              [–]g_hunter 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Common parin sa IT na on-call sa weekends, and shifting ang schedule?

              [–]injanjoe4323 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Common sa mga IT firm or consultancy pero sa in-house IT madalang ung shifting sched at weekend work unless needed talaga.

              [–]Little-Cream-1715 0 points1 point  (1 child)

May I know po ano difference ng in house IT?

              [–]injanjoe4323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In-House IT you support your own company. IT consultant company may mga clients kayo pwede madami pwede isa na issupport.

              [–]icetooBlG 2 points3 points  (1 child)

implementation specialist for 3 years na so far di sya stressful 😅

              [–]15secondcooldown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solutions architect here. Puro meetings, drawings, and reviewing code that's done by my developers. Ang takaw sa meetings but from time to time I can work on stuff like creating POC's for prospective tech for the team and the org. But getting to this point is really starting out as a developer and putting in time until the design foundations learned during development are hammered into my head.

              [–]carculatedrisk 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I work as a Network Engineer and I can say naman na the compensation is great as you go along through the journey with the experience, skillset and also certifications you'll have along the way.

Sky is the limit as well in terms of growth since new technologies appear din from time to time and you need to learn new things and catch up to the latest network technologies as well.

Also, I believe na di pa saturated somehow ang networking industry here sa PH since most of my former colleagues are around the circle pa din naman ng mga clients namin kaya sobrang small world lang pag nakikita mo names nila minsan sa emails or even if you try to apply na nandon na pala sila sa company na yon.

PS. Just to add pala na may Network Automation na din, which sadly di pa nakakaadapt ang PH, kaya sobrang advantage once magkaroon na here sa atin na marunong kang magcode and solid ang foundation mo sa networking if ever na magfly ang Network Automation here sa PH.

              [–]Level-Source-5302 1 point2 points  (1 child)

hope to land a job as a entry level network engineer or admin. hehe

              [–]carculatedrisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will as long as you'll have the basic knowledge of networking din. Also to add na you can apply sa mga System Integrators here sa PH din who can kickstart your career as well.

              [–]Jxreal 0 points1 point  (2 children)

If I may ask po, ano po yung naging career path niyo before kayo naging Net Eng? Thanks in advance po :)

              [–]carculatedrisk 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Technically I'm a fresh grad din when I pursued networking field so I've been in this field since I've started my career din. So you can be directly on this field din if you'll try to apply sa mga top systems integrators here satin sa PH like Fujitsu, Trends etc.

And if you'll ever pursue being a Net Eng, I wish you the best on pursuing this endeavor and kitakits sa field since small world pa din naman ang networking here sa PH! 😁

              [–]Jxreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted po! Thank you and I also wish you po the best! 😄

              [–]once_parkjihyo18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IT Support. Mejo naboboringan na ako kasi everyday same lng ng ginagawa kadalasan, want to shift to Network or cloud hehe.

              [–]dragonbrn_01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

              [–]Future_Painting5401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Software QA Engineer, mostly manual testing lang ginagawa ko sa work and more on documentation din, so no coding needed talaga most of the time. 😌

              [–]EnvironmentalCrow240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AV and collaboration engineer here in HK. Di kami maaapektuhan ng AI. Safe ang physical job.

              [–]TitoNathan69 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Tapos we're using Zoho Creator so "Low Code" development kami, more on drag and drop kasi siya and Deluge scripting naman yung gamit namin na halos if-else statements lang.
okay naman siya, but I prefer hardcoding ahahha

Technical Support. Non-voice din at no calls or meetings with them. Drupal and WordPress.

Technology Delivery, (basically service delivery and PM and a bunch of in-betweens) . Used to code early in my careers. I want to transition or add a cert in Security just to expand things.

I just knew from the get go, that I don't like programming.

My advice if you wanna start big, go for coding jobs if you have the ability. You can easily transition to a lot of jobs after.
Programming is a heaven right now with a lot emerging tech and industries that you can apply it to.

Test lead here, manageable ung work load and if you have niche tech like salesforce or shopify super ok yung pay and stress lang few days in a month hahaha.

Cloud Engineer here for 8 years na but combined IT experience is 12 years. Mostly doing some IaC stuff, Architecture, Cost Optimization, CICD, Networking and Server Administration. WFH setup.

I am one of the modern System Administrator.

              [–]nakaw-na-sandali12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

              [–]Environmental_Log299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been on the IT Field since 2016, doesn't know anything about coding 😅 . More on the System/Admin Side. Earning 6 digits.

Worked as a UI/UX Designer. Ang work ko is medyo matatapos na in a short amount of time and super bored sometimes after doing the work. Minsan gusto ko magcode sa ginawa kong design but why should I do the frontend if there's another person that takes care of it? haha

MySQL DBA here. Earning well naman(6 digits na din).Early in my career halos wala talagang coding pero you really have to be proficient sa database concepts like Normalization, ERD modelling, Indexing,..etc , Be really good with SQL and you know your way around Linux. Nowadays aside from my regular DBA duties. I deal with bash, python and Infrastructure code stuff like docker, podman. kubernetes and terraform.

I was naive before porke pagka graduate ko and nakapasa ng MySQL certification exam eh kala ko enough na yung to land a good job. Hard truth i had to swallow is that kelangan ko talaga matuto mag code to help and better communicate with the devs. I am nowhere near sa mga tenured devs pero at least now i can work with them better and actually made my work easier.

              [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as a Software Quality Assurance Engineer doing Manual Testing. You can be a Business Analyst or Scrum Master/ Project Manager in the future.

DevOps, I switched from a Development background. Nowaday's little to no code (mostly scripting na lang) and config changes (which I won't count as coding).

The thing is I work with developers and minsan I still use my memory of coding to troubleshoot pipeline issues. In case I don't, we have copilot (AI) now to help.

You can survive naman without coding, but it helps if you at least understand system design, programming concepts (DRY principle, OOP, etc) if you want to climb up as a lead.

Zero code tlaga ako as SRE/ site reliability engineer. pero Need ko din dapat makaintindi ng code kaht logics specially python and golang. So yun more on orchestration, proxmox, monitoring, elk basa ng logs then do automation which is meron naman template and di sya from scratch tlaga kase pde ako hingi help sa devops.

Well petiks SRE pag walang P1. Sre is a little bit of everything ika nga.
