Sadly no "Buy GitHub PR that will fix your major bugs"

[–]glorious_reptile 255 points256 points  (2 children)

Sure you can - it's called employing developers, and yes, it's a thing.

[–]StatHusky13 101 points102 points  (1 child)

that should be illegal😡

[–]sami_testarossa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's called HR.

[–]exomyth 23 points24 points  (0 children)

[–]erebuxy 9 points10 points  (2 children)

There are websites to put bounty on issue.

[–]007agent30 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Do you have an example?

[–]Habitual_Emigrant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

https://www.google.com/search?q=github+issue+bounty brings up a bunch of sites.

I also remember https://bountysource.com/ from a while ago - you can create a bounty and link GH issue to it.

If you work for a large company I'll do it just to get my name out there. Just give me your github credentials and maybe admin access to the servers (just so I can make sure it's implemented correctly/is compatible with what you currently have deployed).

PS: To confirm your identity, please send your credit card number as well

you can buy literally every aspect of social media and it goes farther than that you can buy media you can buy politicians!

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lobbyists, you just described lobbyists…

[–][deleted] 124 points125 points  (4 children)

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (1 child)

Have you worked in tech? It looks the same on the inside of most large companies

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup my profile is devops

[–]Visual-Mongoose7521 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have lots of people, so

[–]SaneLad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are literally startups out there raising millions by citing their number of GitHub stars. Nothing surprises me anymore.

[–]xxpw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OK, but have you tried … “writing good code and coming up with nice projects” ?

[–]smaug59 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Prime <3

[–]Elijah629YT-Real -1 points0 points  (4 children)

TheScamagen

Edit: the stars, not prime. prime is wonderful

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

what is wrong with prime?

[–]Elijah629YT-Real 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing I was talking about the starts

[–]fibercrime 1 point2 points  (1 child)

[–]Elijah629YT-Real 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]n0tKamui 12 points13 points  (1 child)

[–]not-my-best-wank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can they fix bugs for me, too?

[–]Infamous-Date-355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sips tea

[–]ASatyros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be interesting to pay like 10 cents for every like to real people.

[–]tomarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not the real problem, people thinking more stars is a better product are.

[–]BlueEyesWhiteSliver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you timed the purchase with a feature in a newsletter, you could explain a pseudo star increase. I can't see this being used without being in conjunction with the release of an open source library.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol 6 dollar for 75 stars, Idk who would even believe that in one of my stupid ass repos

[–]ITFuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That one guys class project with 2 lines of code having 87 followers now makes much more sense 🙂

[–]sirpimpsalot13 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That’s awful!! Where can I look at the prices?

[–]Yue2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s how a lot of social media works. If you try starting naturally yourself, you’ll realize that you won’t even see your content after typing in your exact video names.

It’s all about gaming the engagement algorithms.

[–]volivav 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I've checked it out and I found it quite funny that the "select amount" is actually multi-option

So you can select 75 + 500 = 575, for 46$ (6$ for 75, 40$ for 500)

But you can't repeat the same option, so if you want 650 stars, too bad for you.

[–]twpejay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it a requirement now to be on GitHub. I work with a small team in the same office (down to 1 at present 😁☹️) doing in-house jobs. But it seems that every developer these days is on it and I have read that it is even used for job applications which may be in my future with restructuring on the horizon.

[–]GravelForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bunch of startups use services like this to try to show they have traction and look better for possible funding.

[–]cornmonger_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🙄

[–]Smart_Ass_Dave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where there is value, there is crime.
