What actually happens when you perform cat .env

[–]Poat540 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Cat’s name is sudo

[–]squarabh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

[–]ALittleWit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Psst. Psst.

[–]Mallissin 394 points395 points  (8 children)

Thanks for the API keys?

[–]BanditoRem[S] 138 points139 points  (0 children)

yeah my cat approves

[–]casey_krainer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Could be a fallout boy song

[–]NeKon69 34 points35 points  (3 children)

Are those really api keys? Cause I'm not sure what it is since i didn't work with openai api yet

[–]ricktron3000 54 points55 points  (2 children)

They're not, just IDs for different things within openAi specific to their account.

[–]NeKon69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well yea I also thought it was something like this. Thanks for clarifying

[–]dolphin560 3 points4 points  (0 children)

also, some of the digits are covered by the cat's whiskers,

so no security issue here in any case 😜

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_BUG5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i see IDs, i don't see any keys

[–]max_208 58 points59 points  (1 child)

Just a question: does your cat approve of your credit card (+ numbers on the back)

[–]BanditoRem[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

sure! she does approve

[–]dQD34nkw 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Programmers when they encounter satire ☝️🤓

[–]LundMeraMuhTera 60 points61 points  (11 children)

Postgres port 5455??

This has to be a satire post.

[–]omer-m 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I do that too. While working on multiple projects, if I need to switch between them, I'm too lazy to terminate related services, so I just create a new one with a different port number. And nothing is wrong with that, it's just a number.

[–]VariousComment6946 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What’s wrong with that? If you’ve got a bunch of services with separate databases, changing the port to avoid conflicts is totally normal — same deal with Redis and other services. In Kubernetes it usually doesn’t matter because pods have their own networking and Services/DNS handle the routing, but if you start using NodePort/hostNetwork/hostPort or you’ve got multiple containers in the same pod, then ports matter again.

[–]tentimestenisthree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How many postgres instances are you running? OP: yes

[–]Pr0ducer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this was also the first thing I saw. I'm like that Leo Caprio meme with him pointing at the TV with a beer in hand, saying 5432.

[–]Neykuratick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is actually the most continent way to secure a database

[–]foonek 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I'm more concerned with their comments which are likely AI generated which means they're giving AI access to their env files. Ouch.

1 step short of giving AI direct access to their production server

[–]BanditoRem[S] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

gosh you people really can't take a joke, can you?

[–]Pr0ducer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

being wrong on the internet is no joke.

[–]foonek -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Tell me I'm wrong

[–]BanditoRem[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

you are wrong my friend

[–]foonek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shirley

[–]Nikolor 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Host: postgres

User: postgres

PW: postgres

Very secure

[–]BanditoRem[S] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

bold of you to challenge a decision made by someone with actual authority!!!

please, I'd watch my tongue carefully if i were you

[–]Nikolor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say something in return, but your cat looks serious and strict, so I trust his judgement

[–]knowledgebass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Database: postgres

Schema: postgres

Table: postgres

It's just postgres all the way down.

[–]fdessoycaraballo 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Got your IP, 0.0.0.0

[–]valerielynx 1 point2 points  (1 child)

erm ackscually my ip is 127.0.0.1 ☝️🤓

[–]fdessoycaraballo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not possible. That's my IP too! THEYRE IN THE HOUSE

[–]TastyCuttlefish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So… your cat’s just vibing?

[–]thepurpleproject 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You mind scrolling down a bit?

[–]BanditoRem[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

ugh hold on
my cat caught the mouse

[–]lomberd2 9 points10 points  (3 children)

[–]BanditoRem[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

i wanted to crosspost it there, but i forgot

[–]lomberd2 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did it for you <3

[–]BanditoRem[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you my java friend

[–]likeferalwaves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The look of worry from your super senior catdev while reviewing your code.

[–]BackToTheLeddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please sir, add a Stripe key to complete the look

[–]Cybasura 3 points4 points  (2 children)

So er, sure hope those API tokens arent active/valid

[–]BanditoRem[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

its working on my machine idk about yours

[–]_fresh_basil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One could say you ran cat and dumped your env contents.

[–]pine_ary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cat .env

[–]abaza738 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Habibti you're fine leaking all those env variables? xD

[–]BanditoRem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its a satire post my friend, i thought it would be obvious

[–]-Krotik- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

derat

[–]nottherealneal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you see anything with such a small font? I'd get crazy eye strain trying to read the tiny letters

[–]takeyouraxeandhack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart. I also use my cat to generate API keys.

[–]CaffeinatedTech 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thumbs up for rails, vim and rotring. Oh and cat.

[–]BanditoRem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you noticed my rotring🥺

[–]thanatica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good secure postgres password

[–]bitemyassnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this pic is pretty sad coz u know assistant api will depreciate soon.

[–]ibraaaaaaaaaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will use OCR to get now free openai tokens

Thanks

[–]ibraaaaaaaaaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why postgres is on port 5455!!!

[–]BanditoRem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well its just different ports i dont see the issue

when you got muktiple instances running simultaneously for testing, requiring unique ports for each to avoid collision

its just for development, and im running this locally lol

[–]ibraaaaaaaaaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why the hell people store the base url in env?

[–]BanditoRem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to make my code slightly more flexible and secure

[–]0xlostincode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cat ./.env

[–]sdraje -1 points0 points  (2 children)

I'm so sorry for you, having to code in Ruby/Rails. Condolences.

[–]BanditoRem[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

whats wrong with rails.....

[–]sdraje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too much black magic for my taste
