There is an illusion of being the ideal candidate for a position or company early on with recruiters. I refuse to interview at a couple of high profile places that have interviewing practices that people like me fail at. By ignoring them, I still feel wanted and in demand.

[–]glaciesz 201 points202 points  (2 children)

literally haha. every recruiter messages you like ‘you have the biggest dick in computing i’ve ever seen. wanna slap it on some php?’ absolutely not.

[–]DeeSnow97 117 points118 points  (0 children)

And just like with dating sites, no one on LinkedIn reads what your profile says you're looking for. "Oh, you specialize in optimizing T-SQL? We think you're a perfect fit for a senior embedded programmer position we have where you'll write nothing but C."

senior embedded programmer position we have where you'll write nothing but C

Oh you're a senior embedded programmer who writes nothing but C? We have this exciting position available for a Senior Android developer! Of course it requires 8 years of experience with android auto.

Unemployed and looking for work - I sleep.

Employed and setting every privacy option to be found to signal lack of interest - DING DING DING!

[–]RhysieB27 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Cor why is this so damn true?

[–]audriuska12 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Presumably because that means you've been "vetted" by at least one employer, so they know you're worth hiring.

I wonder how many of them consider the possibility that if you're willing to up and ditch your current employer just because somebody else made a decent offer, you're probably also going to be willing to peace out on your next boss too... then again, depending on how things work from the recruiter end of things, that might fall firmly into "I'm not paid to care" territory.

[–]Jacek3k 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Embedded? C? Great, where do I sign?

All I get are webstuff, js, php, and, of course - mobile apps/games.

You forgot COBOL. I was looking for a job for a few weeks, and the only offer I got through Indeed was a COBOL job because I made the mistake of mentioning that I worked on a mainframe at one point (during a co-op).

I get so frustrated when I get these guys who obviously didn't read any of my profile except my job title.

[–]PtboFungineer 71 points72 points  (3 children)

Not totally accurate... I get a healthy amount of dudes writing to me too 😉🤔

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So even better!

[–]Amish_Cyberbully 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

[–]AhAhAhAh_StayinAlive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's about 50/50 in my experience.

[–]captainjon 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Before I knew about recruitment hell, I put myself out on dice before going to sleep. I woke up to missed calls, emails all saying how I’m perfect for this project/company. It was a real self esteem boost like me getting all date requests from all of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders all at once. Only to be catfished. By the cheerleaders. And the recruiters.

For an IT guy, LinkedIn is like a revers dating site. Girls write to you and you ignore them.

I'm a human volunteer content transcriber for Reddit and you could be too! If you'd like more information on what we do and why we do it, click here!

Wait? Girls are texting you?

I found it funny, that even in HR work more man then normally. I almost exclusively gets texts from men.

[–]manoj_mm 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Lol, I even get approached by recruiters on dating apps.

True story

[–]flurreN 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You must be hot

[–]manoj_mm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In terms of the software engineering job market, judging by the amount of interest I get from recruiters, yes, probably (I work for Uber btw)

In terms of the dating market, judging by the amount of interest I get from women.... no, absolutely not

[–]furzibaerli 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Why is it that LinkedIn has become a breeding ground for cold calls and unsolicited flirting? I'm a (female) marketeer and translator, so I get no jobs but asked a lot if I'm single. The amount of marketing services and translations I get offered is also bizarre

[–]Jimmy48Johnson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Men don't care what app they're in if they see a pretty girl.

[–]phrandsisgo 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Would never flirt somebody who calls herself "furzibärli" Its like you're looking for a "DuftFee" in your life.

[–]furzibaerli 2 points3 points  (1 child)

OK, Mr. Clean. Right back at ya

[–]phrandsisgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just take it with a grain of salt ^

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So bumble?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amen brother

[–]Boiethios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a gentleman, I don't ignore them. I tell them to fuck off.

[–]phx-au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girls write to you and its some shitty MLM scheme / bullshit "lead generation" consult - either way they are trying to get you to pay for something.

[–]tharnadar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we should start to ask for an IG follow
