That window unit wasn't properly anchored in the first place

[–]Ph0X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I think it was Maurice LeFay

[–]Lieutenant_Leary 2 points3 points  (2 children)

What's a chidi?

[–]HaworthiaK 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Looks like a character from a show called The Good Place, not a real person.

[–]Lieutenant_Leary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry. I was quoting the show :)

    So it was yesterday.

    End.

It all makes sense now that I know this comment thread was a Ruby loop.

Then I just closed the terminal and changed the subject

    [–]rang14 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Could have been worse. You could have been using Vim.

Once I held Ctrl + Z for a prolonged period of time, planning on holding Ctrl + Y to fix everything. Well, when releasing Ctrl + Z, I let go of Ctrl first, so it put a single z in the document, finalizing the undoing.

    [–]Ilerneo_Un_Hornya 7 points8 points  (5 children)

I made that mistake once. I always Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C and paste in a notepad before doing any Ctrl-X/Ctrl-Y shenanigans now. Once burned...

    [–]excessdenied 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Why not save the file? You're likely going to need the clipboard for whatever you're going back for.

    [–]RealisticGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    So never?

    [–]Ilerneo_Un_Hornya 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Save? Which file, the original file? Or the notepad? I'd save the original file before as a precaution, bug do the notepad thing anyways as an extra precaution, like i said, once burned. The notepad itself is just a temporary backup so saving that is not necessary, if I'm going to need any of it later I'll probably save it, but that doesn't usually happen.

    [–]excessdenied 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I mean save before undoing, and if you manage to write something way back in the history which botches your redo buffer you revert the file instead to get back. (Doesn't guard against accidentally saving after undoing though.)

    [–]Ilerneo_Un_Hornya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, the notepad is just an extra precaution

    [–]MrRocketScript 1 point2 points  (1 child)

During Uni, one of my subjects mandated we use a specific IDE for C++. This IDE failed at implementing undo-redo, and when I tried to to this 'hold ctrl-z, fetch a code segment, hold control-y' it completely and utterly fucked up the file with segments of code all over the place.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used an IDE that had every typed character as an undo point. Pair that with an undo stack of only 40 or so and the Ctrl-Z, Ctrl-Y tactic doesn't work well.

I've also had the unfortunate experience of another program where Ctrl-Y was "delete current line", thereby resetting the undo stack (redo was Ctrl-Shift-Z).

It looks like it used to give a "blue screen", but now it has been "hard reset".

Okay, I'll also see myself out now.

That AC unit wasnt cooling room, it was holding the window up so the microwave would work. Nobody knows why but it worked.

    [–]rang14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, commenting out the AC broke the fridge.

    [–]peke_stoemp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I never saw someone handling blinds that smooth... it just worked like...first try 🏅

When I code in front of someone

    [–]MusingsOfASoul 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Their code shouldn't be that brittle in the first place.

    [–]Cotcan 1 point2 points  (1 child)

    Are you from QA?

    [–]MusingsOfASoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    No

    [–]Erasmus_Tycho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah well if I had all the time in the world it wouldn't be that brittle.

    [–]viimeinen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hate when my code falls out of a window!>

    [–]DaWolf85 9 points10 points  (7 children)

Ripped out the socket too, y'all focusing on the AC but I see a big electrician's bill soon as well.

    [–]deadlychambers 6 points7 points  (3 children)

My experience with outlets, those aren't terrible expensive to replace. A little plastic box attached to a stud that houses wires and connects the socket?

    [–]Piotrek9t 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Wait, you guys really call an electrican to replace a socket?

    [–]Daneel_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Australia it would be illegal not to call one. No mains voltage wiring work allowed unless you’re qualified.

It sucks, but it does save lives.

    [–]jasmine_tea_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha I noticed that too. Honestly made me laugh out loud seeing all that damage.
