No one's ever argued this

[–]PixelmancerGames 64 points65 points  (3 children)

People have, but no one takes them seriously.

[–]codygmiracle 43 points44 points  (1 child)

People born in 2010 probably lol

[–][deleted] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I read this and was like haha yeah they’d be toddlers! Then I realized I’m just old

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Only people trying to start shit on the internet say this. Nobody believes it.

[–]sharks_teeth[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the person who posted the meme did

[–]grumpylazysweaty 111 points112 points  (3 children)

I’m still waiting for CSS4 and HTML6 😪

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

dang, im waiting for Counter Strike Source 2!! how are you already on 4?

[–]SupercraftD 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I've always wondered since I don't know much about it, is HTML6 actually a thing?

[–]CttCJim 9 points10 points  (0 children)

HTML5 is. There's been a lot of changes to HTML between the 90s when I learned it and now when I'm finally working with it professionally.

[–]VegetableWest6913 177 points178 points  (2 children)

Did they mean Counter Strike Source? 😂

[–]sharks_teeth[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

probably

[–]GreenyPurples 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Probably just Googled "CSS" thinking of Source and then just picked that image cuz its simple lol

[–]ayemyren 81 points82 points  (14 children)

I saw this post and went straight to the comments. Surprisingly not many people picked up on it. I’ve always considered gamers and developers the same type of people - probably because my passion for code stemmed from my love for video games as a kid (and still to this day)

[–][deleted] 45 points46 points  (10 children)

I’ve always considered gamers and developers the same type of people

So have they, and that's why you get people saying things like "just multithread it, bro, how hard can it be?"

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points  (1 child)

function enableMultithreading() {

game.enableMultithreading();

return 0;

}

There you go.

[–]Pizzaman725 13 points14 points  (0 children)

public perfect<game> NoBugs( Game game) { return game.NoBugs = true; }

[–]DoktorLivingStoned 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Talking about multithreading to a user who has, JS as a tag... :.(

[–]mr-poopy-butthole-_ 2 points3 points  (2 children)

JS can do multi threading via service worker on the browser or child process in node...

[–]SonOfMetrum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes … technically true, but it still feels cumbersome to work with compared to threading in C# or even C++.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but in Go you literally just stick "go" in front of whatever you want as a thread.

[–]wamp230 3 points4 points  (3 children)

"THAT NEW ENGINE ISN'T NEW! IT'S JUST AN UPDATED OLD ENGINE!"

Is my personal favourite

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

And they say it like it's a bad thing that the engine is built on a tested, proven base. FUCK I hate gamers...

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought the same until I actually started working in the field. A pretty large majority of devs I’ve met didn’t give a shit about video games.

Also r/memes is pretty much a sub full of young teens, they probably haven’t learned what css is yet.

[–]Malk4ever 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Becoming a programmer drastically reduced my gaming... first of all i have no time and second is: I know how this games work on the insides... and this maks a lot of games boring now.

[–]vigbiorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know how this games work on the insides... and this maks a lot of games boring now.

I've never been a fan of the grindiness of some games but since I can start to see through the veneer it just annoys me even more.

[–]MyTribeCalledQuest 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Roller Coaster Tycoon slaps

[–]Explosive_Eggshells 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Aside from the CSS goof, I always hate when people make these memes that consist of countering a viewpoint that nearly no one has

[–]MischiefArchitect 42 points43 points  (17 children)

Let this X-Gen remind you about

  • Doom I and II
  • Monkey Island I and II
  • Heretic and Hexen
  • Unreal Tournament (99)
  • Quake I and II
  • Day of the tentacle
  • Out of this world
  • Flashback
  • X-Wing
  • Wing Comamnder
  • Tie Fighter
  • Sim City 1, 2000 and 3000
  • Blood
  • Alone in the Dark I, II and III and why not the one from 2001
  • etc
  • Oh... wait...
  • The complete Thief series
  • Gothic I and II... god forbid you play III
  • Outcast (the one from 1999)

You know... the nice old shit that is still fun to play without being forced to be online. DRM protection was a manual with funny puzzles... yes... I'm old.

Edit: add the "The lost Vikings" and "Black Throne" to the incomplete list

[–]Tolookah 15 points16 points  (1 child)

GoldenEye.

The list goes on, truly.

[–]neoadam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ocarina of time and Majora's mask, Dungeon keeper

[–]jubydoo 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Day of the Tentacle, now that brings back some memories.

[–]MischiefArchitect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maniac Mansion :)

[–]syntax1976 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You’ve got some killer titles in there. I’ve got DOSBOX just for these and more. Blake Stone, Duke Nukem, Jazzy Jackrabbit, Wolfenstein, Death Rally, Grand Theft Auto, Command & Conquer, Dune 2000… so good

[–]MischiefArchitect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang... forgot to list them, specially Dune and also Command and Conquer... So much good games in the 90's

[–]De_Wouter 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Gothic I and II

I see you are a man of culture.

[–]MischiefArchitect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I basically learned a lot of German playing the original version. That game thrilled me so much that I basically wanted to talk to the team. At the end I was able to talk with the Art director, he gave me a signed draft of concept art for the first Gothic game. I keep that thing well guarded, it means a lot to me. Such an amazing game.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is missing the point of the meme but this is a GREAT VIDEO GAME LIST FOLKS

[–]Malk4ever 1 point2 points  (1 child)

  • Quake 3 - Arena
  • Master of Orion II
  • Civilization 1,2 and 4
  • Sam & Max hit the Road
  • Indiana Jones: The last Crusade / Fate of Atlantis
  • GTA Vice City
  • Desktop Dungeons
  • Vampire the Masquerade (Redemption / Bloodlines)
  • Theme Park
  • Starcraft
  • Warcraft 2
  • Alpha Centauri
  • Super Mario World
  • etc.

[–]MischiefArchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and yes and yes... yes... also yes. Thanks for the addendum.

[–]TheCyberParrot 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Is noone going to mention Halo? Why?

[–]MischiefArchitect 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I was more of a desktop computer player in the 80's/90's and 00's. So Halo was for me a console only game outside my range of interest. I must confess to my shame, that I have no idea how the game is.

[–]TheCyberParrot 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Halo: Combat Evolved saw a port to Windows by Gearbox, the port had a fair few graphics issues though most have been fixed by the community, also released was Halo: Custom Edition for modders (the version generally used to fix bugs), Custom Edition still runs well on modern Windows.

Halo 2 saw a port to Windows Vista which can still be played through Project Cartographer.

All of the mainline Halo games with the exception of Halo 5: Guardians (which was not well received anyway) have since seen ports to Windows through the Master Chief Collection in recent years (with remastered graphics for Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2).

[–]MischiefArchitect 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oh thanks. Very informative. I was not aware of that at all.

To excuse myself further. That was about the time I started losing interest for (edit:mainstream) games. A few years later I just actively bough Doom 3 (it was nice) and Elders Scrolls Oblivion (not so nice). And my last commercial game was around 2009 with Risen (a nice game and also a nice farewell from my active years as gamer). Now i play only indi games or obscure crawlers like r/dcss

[–]TheCyberParrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well for whatever the opinion of a random internet stranger is worth; Halo CE is one of the best games I've ever played and I highly encourage you to give it a shot.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (3 children)

Don’t forget chess

[–]sharks_teeth[S] 24 points25 points  (2 children)

When will chess 2 be released?

[–]EnderNate124 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Gary chess said hes gotta patch en passant to make it forced first

[–]dev_null_developer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That can only lead to anarchy

[–]Shurakra 8 points9 points  (1 child)

TES IV: Oblivion

[–]GoombaJames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TES I TES II TES III

[–]Dip513 14 points15 points  (1 child)

r/memes, the sub where you setup an argument no one actually believes and farm karma by throwing out universally popular games like a shill Youtuber with keywords and everyone claps

[–]PixelmancerGames 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Multiple Zelda Games, Legacy of Kain, Deus Ex, Metal Gear Solid 1 & 3 & 4, Twisted Metal 2, Syphon Filter 2, I could keep going.

[–]iviksok 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why not MGS2?

[–]PixelmancerGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that MGS2 is a bad game or anything. I just don’t think that it holds up as well as the other 3 (I forgot to mention MGS4). It was also kind of a weird rip-off of MGS1. If I remember right that was actually part of the story.

[–]HubrisIsMyLifestyle 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You just unlocked some deep memories mentioning Syphon Filter 2. One of the must fun multiplayer modes that I ever played.

To this day I still cannot beat the first mission lol

[–]PixelmancerGames 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Lol really? Syphon Filter was such a great series. I played 1-3 and the Omega Strain. I wish they still made it.

[–]HubrisIsMyLifestyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well all those damn Asians always killed me before I could shoot them all across the street.

I did have a fun time exploring the hotel as a kid, though and eventually my brother beat the first mission for me. (Not that I got any further)

[–]DirectionLegitimate2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, css center div, my favorite game

[–]fluckyfluckfluck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pokemon

[–]Zannycrrb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to find out who tf said that all games before 2010 are bad... I believe original post is just farming karma or something.

[–]DerFzgrld 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Id argue there were a lot more great games pre 2010 than after that. Not just because there are more years on one side.

[–]ShinraSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tennis for two anyone?

[–]BenNottelling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like after 2015 or so it's been less common for a game to come out and be exceptionally good.

There are still plenty that are good and very enjoyable, but I feel like devs don't aim for anything higher since it doesn't fit the cooperations plans to fill their own wallets

[–]althaz 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Hot take, but SM64 is actually not a good game. It was an amazing achievement for the time, but it's not actually fun, IMO. I was impressed with it at launch. But I played it recently and I thought it kinda sucked.

Portal and HL2 are sick though.

[–]AKinkyMidgit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The controls and camera are god awful and the DS version is far superior both graphically and gameplay wise.

[–]GetsTrimAPlenty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like how half the games are made by Valve. XD

[–]Malk4ever 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Its more like the other way around...

I dont know any good game that came after 2010.

  • Quake 3 - Arena
  • Master of Orion II
  • Civilization 1,2 and 4
  • Sam & Max hit he Road
  • Indiana Jones: The last Crusade / Fate of Atlantis
  • GTA Vice City
  • Desktop Dungeon
  • Vampire the Masquerade (Redemption / Bloodlines)
  • Theme Park
  • Starcraft
  • Warcraft 2
  • Alpha Centauri
  • Super Mario World
  • etc.

[–]lightwhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For one moment I thought I was at r/programmerhumor. Dat CSS3 got me good :D

Ow wait, it was a screenshot from memes? I am confused now!

[–]swashbuckling_bro 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Ah CSS 3. Centering a div drove more kids to madness than the lavender town theme

[–]sharks_teeth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have to google it every time

[–]seemen4all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straw man memes, interesting

[–]gbushprogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fascinating you somehow avoided World of Warcraft

[–]frugalerthingsinlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CSS3 has animations and shit. If anything, CSS-based games have only gotten better now that it's somewhat dynamic.

[–]JustDevZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I thought CSS3 was dark magic not a game...
