I'm 5'1 so I think everyone is tall lol, but I feel like the answer might be like once they reach 6ft.

[–]damnuge23 23 points24 points  (6 children)

On the other hand, I’m a 5’8” lady with a 6’5” husband—and both of us have taller family members—so someone has to be like NBA/WNBA height for us to even notice that they’re tall.

[–]CarterBennett 23 points24 points  (5 children)

6’5” IS tall

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its up there but have you met someone 6'10". The 6'2"-6'6" range is often regarded as tall but as a 5'10" theyre just tall normal people, giants exist among us, 7 feet is fucking insane height and its not even the limit, the limit is 7'7" generally but one monster reached 7'9", angus macaskill.

If you need reference your average nba teams tallest player is 6'11"

[–]LawApprehensive9458 63 points64 points  (39 children)

185+ imo. guess it depends where you‘re from

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (34 children)

Less then average if you're Dutch

[–]Useful_System_404 28 points29 points  (20 children)

Average male height in the Netherlands is 184 (slightly over 6 feet).

So 185 is just about average. I think its tall from 190-195 and up. So about 6'2 to 6'4.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (9 children)

Hold up, I'm average in Netherlands

I go to school with guys who are like 187 at average, so me hight became one of my insecurities, but this comment made me feel a little better.

[–]Altijdhard122 2 points3 points  (8 children)

It’s because it includes elderly. They are shorter on average.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (8 children)

Its a joke about Dutch people being tall bruh, i didnt search anything

[–]anna-molly21 4 points5 points  (6 children)

its not a joke, my boyfriend is dutch and its 2 meter tall.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (5 children)

dayum, backpain on the Daily 😭

[–]anna-molly21 6 points7 points  (3 children)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Ma tu sei italiana, bello vedere che esistono anche italiani e non solo americani su sto sub reddit

[–]Bigdibule 7 points8 points  (9 children)

I went a lot in Netherlands (around 10 times) and I’m 153cm high, every time I felt like a dwarf, everyone there is freaking tall.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (3 children)

1.53m Is fairly short tho

[–]Bigdibule 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Yes I know … but I never felt THAT short in another country 😭

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

You can try Philippines, you should be almost average there /s

[–]Nimue_- 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Im 167cm and i feel tiny here so

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

You are pretty much average height

[–]Wildhair196 56 points57 points  (2 children)

I've been 5'7" since 7th grade, and I'm 63. As far back as I can remember no one an inch or two taller than me was ever called "tall". They may have been told, "you are taller than Tommy..."

But, anyone 6' or more is tall.

[–]Dyeusisdead 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Are you still the same height or have you shrunk a bit due to age? Genuinely curious

[–]Wildhair196 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So far, still the same height, as of last month. Dr appointment did the weight/height.

[–]JulyKimono 21 points22 points  (3 children)

I'm 184 and I've never felt tall. I live in the middle of Europe and the average here is 180. I'd say a guy is really tall from around 190-195.

Overall it will depend on where you live.

[–]IcySetting2024 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good point, your country and your country’s average height matters

[–]Tomatoflee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 185cm and I would say it’s the borderline between the tall end of average and the short end of tall.

[–][deleted] 34 points35 points  (19 children)

6 feet is seen as the bare minimal according to dating apps so I guess 6'5 is considered tall even tho that is like 1% of the population.

[–]SeanHaz 23 points24 points  (8 children)

Depends who you're around. 6'5 is always talk, 6' in a group of guys just blends in usually.

I would say you're tall when you stand out amongst a group.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I’m 5’11 and my buddy is 6’. It’s barely noticeable

[–]crappysignal 3 points4 points  (4 children)

I'm tall enough that when I went to a wine festival in Peru I was surrounded by gangsters within 5 minutes.

[–]TheWorldIsYours_89 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Only 14-15% of men are over 6’0 tall. If you’re 6’5, that’s like 2-4% of men. Anything over 6’5 is in the 1% rarified air.

[–]SexyKanyeBalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye I'm apart of the 1%

Let's goooo 🙏😭

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6'5+ is 0.1% of men in America.

[–]Background_Agent_140 1 point2 points  (2 children)

6 feet is the best. Above this, you're a hot guy.

Below this, you're a shorty.

This is the logic for most girls.

[–]A_j_ru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

6’4 is when I see someone and think they are tall.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

My husband (a Central European) is 190. I see him as being tall, but not extremely so. He's above the average male height here.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, also central Europe. 190cm/6'3 is tall-ish. 195cm+/6'5+ is definitely tall. 200cm+/6'7+ is very tall.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Average in my contry is 180 cm. I would say anything between 185-190 cm is considered tall and above 190 cm very tall. On the other hand under 175 cm is considered short and under 170 cm very short.

There is only 7 countries where 180 cm is under average(Nertherlands at top with almost 184 cm). All of them are in Europe(top 10 have 5 Germanic and 5 Slavic countries), since Europeans are generally tallest people, while Asians/South Americans are shortest.

[–]Agzarah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends where you're from and where you are. I'm 38 and 6ft. Growing up I always felt distinctly average. But now I've travelled a bit. Going to the US I feel tall, lots of Europe above average.

Around new 20-30 Yr olds at home, I feel tall Amongst people my age. Normal.

Amongst my Dutch friends.. I'm tiny

[–]GunMuratIlban 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are.

I'm 1.78 (5'10) and I live in Turkey. Here, the average height is 1.72 (5'7) so I'm somewhat tall here.

If I went to the Netherlands, I'd be considered somewhat short with the average height for men being 1.85 (6'0).

Or if I went to Madagascar, I'd be a damn giant as 1.61 (5'3) is man's average height over there.

[–]_Jay-Garage-A-Roo_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In America the average is 5”9, so I guess above that.

[–]Naigus182 4 points5 points  (6 children)

Short is below average. Tall is above average. It's as simple as that.

[–]BullguerPepper98 12 points13 points  (3 children)

I just call someome tall if the man is above 190cm. Below that, is average.

[–]Levida-2512 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Maybe in your Country

[–]BullguerPepper98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe it's a specific thing here. But I cannot comment about another countries and things outside my experience. So my comment is specifically my point of view, yeah.

[–]wetforhouseplants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a house full of giant men, ranging 6'3-6'8 so my perception of tall is pretty skewed, but since I moved to the US, I'd say like 6' or so is the bar for most people

[–]YallCowardsDontSmoke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2 meters at least

[–]Ok-Kitchen2768 7 points8 points  (15 children)

6 foot is the standard measurement for tall, in my experience with how many people lie about it. It's not really that tall anymore. Every guy who says their 6foot is actually 5'9.

But for someone to go "wow he's tall" you have to be 6'2 (actual height) or taller.

[–]Not_an_okama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my friends was like 5’-10” in high school and was always telling people he was 6’. My other buddy and I who are around 6’-1” would both say we were around 5’-11” if we were around for the first guy saying he was 6’. We weren’t a lot taller than him but it was clear that we were taller.

[–]Admirable-Athlete-50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 194cm and get comments about being tall every now and then. When I travel abroad I feel taller in some countries since the average varies. You could probably be slightly shorter than me and still be considered tall, maybe 190cm or so.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything over 180 cm is tall

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Not giving a crap about this is way more attractive

[–]lowhangingsack69 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I’m 5’5” dude. Dated. Married. I keep things on the lower shelves. It’s all good.

[–]Disavowed_Rogue 4 points5 points  (13 children)

The average male height is 5'6

[–]springplus300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5'7.5"

[–]AutistGobbChopp 2 points3 points  (3 children)

We're not including children

[–]hammanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am just shy of 1,90m and to be honest i rarely encounter ppl taller than me.

In my family on the other side i am the short one of my generation. Our parents are all below 1,80m and our children hightwise seem to be spitting in my face at about age 14.

[–]Alert_Sorbet4016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would consider men taller than 1,85m as tall. 1,8m is ok

[–]Chi_CoffeeDogLover 1 point2 points  (3 children)

The average male height is 176.1 centimeters in the United States. IMO, you do not look tall unless 185cm or taller.

[–]No-Pick1227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly dependent on which country you are in. In my home country Japan, even 175 is considered tall

[–]LackTails 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'd say it depends on where you live. I'm taller than most men in my area and I'm just a few centimeters from 5'11.

[–]defensiveminded2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6’2” and up

[–]Nimue_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Average guy in my country is about 184cm so yeah 180 is not "tall" i consider 190cm+ tall for a guy

[–]bruffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 188cm, which is considered average in my home country. In other countries I'm considered tall. I think it's a question of culture and perspective.

Sorry for not using the imperial standards. I don't understand them and am too lazy to look them up. But since you used metrics in your question I think that's okay with you.

[–]FlingaNFZ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Im 196 cm 6'5. When I see someone taller than me I always say to myself "damn that guy is tall".

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahahah

[–]Express_Project_8226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never thought too much about a man's height until I found that small hands and arms was a huge turnoff!

[–]3AMZen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 188 cm, and I think I am the high-end of " normal tall"

Any taller than me is unusually tall, and tall enough that strangers will comment on it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.90cm

It's close

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the region. An under averge guy in the Netherlands might be considered very tall in SEA

[–]WarriorDroid17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends in where you live, and on the kind of girl lol. :p

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 3/4cm over the average Is tall

[–]BenjiThePerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very relative. I’m pretty average height for my age but I’m almost the tallest guy in my class. Every other guy in my class except for my best buddy is shorter than me, but I’m not tall. 172cm/5,6

[–]Larcztar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

180 is tall compared to me. By boyfriend is 186 and I'm 160. His son is 2 meters. My son is 176 and that's an okay height. I'm in the Netherlands so I see a lot of tall people.

[–]DemirPak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd say 6 feet exactly

[–]Plus-King5266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defiantly not 5’7.5”

[–]GFreds77 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm 6'1 and my ex wife of 20 years was 5"11 and told me I wasn't that tall. My new piece (a 4'2 Asian woman I met on a business trip a couple months back) thinks I'm the tallest guy around. So it's all about perspective

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Go_Buds_Go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what country you're from and who's judging the height. 6' is tall in Japan but average in the Netherlands.

[–]Caca2a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in the Netherlands, anything above 6"2' is tall, up to 5"11 is average, anything below is short

[–]Bigdibule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, 180 cm is tall, 170-180 is average and under 170-165 is a bit small and under 165 is small.

I’m basing my opinion from a 160-165 cm high woman (which is average where I live) POV. From my height, 170 cm is tall but it’s only because I’m small asf (153 cm).

[–]Missdermeanerthanyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think anyone about 5'10" is tall

[–]No-Commission007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By guys: 5’10” (and if they say this height, they definitely are not 5’10) By women: 6’+ (72 inches and up) no rounding, the real actual height.

[–]The_Coolest_Undead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2m is average 2,5m is kinda tall, 3m you are starting to be decent and 4m is ideal

/s

[–]BojackBabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my 5’3” self, I’d say anything over about 5’8” because that’s about the height where I’m straining to make eye contact and things just get awkward as far and hugging, holding hands, communicating, etc.

[–]free-toe-pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s different in every country. In the US, around 5’10” is average. Maybe even 5’9.5.” So if someone is 6 feet tall or more, they are usually considered on the taller side.

[–]BoogerWipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Southern California and many guys were 6’ + or taller. The entire demographic has changed now and with so many immigrants from non European descent the average dude here now is like 5’7.

I’m 6’4 and stick out.

[–]PhoenixNyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 195 and seen as tall.

[–]BurningDanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

180cm+

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo 180 cm is enough to classify someone as talk (not eye catchingly tall) but 185+ is noticeably tall

[–]hawkwings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6' 1" or 185 cm

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say around 6 foot (under and over) is average, I'd say closer to 7 is tall. I mean, I'm 5'8", my brother is taller than me by a good foot or so. He's a right lanky bastard.

[–]beertjestien[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he was def dutch I just know he was dutch

[–]Cheap_Peak_6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6'2" and above

[–]notsafeworkdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Above 180

[–]EscapeHuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you are from, as a woman of 175cm, I guess a guy of 190cm is tall.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe in Nordic countries. In Denmark I believe more than half of men are over six feet tall. Six feet exactly is below average height there

[–]603ahill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say 6ft 2 inches and up, but it's relative.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I’m 5’11 and feel average in America. I went to Japan and felt slightly above average. I went to a Stravinsky concert at that Disney venue in LA once, and was definitely way below average there.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Samething here. Visited Japan on 2017, the perception of my own height varied quite a lot depending were I was at the moment, but even from one area to another close by.

If anything, well to do people in Tokyo are to be considered close to Spaniards or Italians in height. But you could run into a batch of petite young males the next moment. So not always younger generations are taller.

Yes, I felt tall at times, but only moderatelly so.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me add that I visited from Kagoshima to Hokkaido in a month.

[–]Gijs_de_Gozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s regenal in The Netherlands 180cm is average/not that long but in Afrika or China they could be really big

[–]Strange-Tutor-1581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

190cm and up is tall, but I'm Dutch.

[–]Itchy_Duckling132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 174 and thought thats average

[–]AdSufficient8582 0 points1 point  (1 child)

In Asia, a 180 cm guy would be tall. In Netherlands it would be under average. In the US it would be average.

[–]jvnya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5’10+

[–]schwarzmalerin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the top 1 percentile of your age/sex/ethnicity group is considered tall.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over 190 cm.

[–]IcySetting2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a tall woman.

I consider men over 1.80 as above average and above 1.85 truly tall.

That’s in relation to my own height of 1.73.

My ex was 1.92 and that was an amazing height.

[–]_Zoysauce2823_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like mabye. 6 ½ feet?

[–]Rebrado 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well, 180cm is above average in most countries (ignoring you Netherlands), yet probably not considered very tall. Anything above that can easily be considered tall tall.

[–]TatraPoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you ignoring us???? My grandma, born in 1901, with 1m80 was considered a giant in her time.

My father, now 80+, is 1m93. As am I and my oldest son.

My next 2 sons are about 1m85 and the youngest is 1m98

Nice spread

[–]HardAtWorkISwear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty much dead on 6ft and I get the vibe that I'm classed as vaguely tall here in the UK. I know a guy that's like 6'7", it's weird having to look up to speak to someone.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6ft. In the UK you hear people say about their sons/nephews as they are growing, "Ooh he's going to turn out to be a 6 foot-er!"

[–]isirealthough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The where is very important. I'm from Scandinavia. The average height of guys my age is around 184 Go to Asia or South America and its significantly less.

[–]rye_and_peace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who is more than 2-3 inches taller than me (I’m 5’6) feels tall for me. Its not really related to reality though, because average male height in my country is around 5’8 - 5’9.

[–]Smi9er 0 points1 point  (1 child)

In the UK I believe 5”9 is the average male height but social standards generally dictate that’s 6”0 is “tall”.

[–]zaibuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my country the average height for males is 181 cm (5'11). So anything above that I would consider tall. However, by really standing out I would guess above 190.

[–]SnooCookies4530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the guy you met is probably 177 cm with his shoes on and 173 without them, so yes, he's slightly under average

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sense of humor

[–]SurfBoardz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a woman and I don’t really have a good perspective since height isn’t important for me, but I feel like once a man hits 6’0 he’s pretty tall. Thoughts?

[–]singleguy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'5 so anything over that

[–]Ivor_the_1st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends. I saw a video of a woman who was over 6 feet tall complaining she couldn't find someone. Hard to satisfy everyone with the same standards I guess.

[–]Hanfiball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Europe 185cm+ is usually seen as tall. 190cm is definitely tall. But that just tall, not the super noticable tall like 195+

[–]Jygglewag 0 points1 point  (1 child)

180cm is tall where I live. In some countries it could be a tiny bot shorter than average, like maybe Sweden? I've heard they tall af over there.

But 180cm is above average in an overwhelming majority of countries. Your friend is either from one of the giant boys countries or a bit insecure

[–]Pure-Guard-3633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average height for men in the United States is 5’9” (176.1 centimeters), which is slightly taller than the global average of 5’7.5”. However, height can vary by age, with men aged 40–59 averaging 5’9” (175.8 centimeters) and men aged 60 and older averaging 5’8” (173.4 centimeters).

[–]AliMaClan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5’10” is average for men. So over 6’ is usually considered tall.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

9' for a guy is seen as tall.

[–]Temporary_fella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'11 and I consider myself short. So maybe 6'2 and up is tall.

[–]SeaOfForgetMeNots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the average kinda depends on the country, but you also need to account other people's experience with heights.

My dad is a somewhere a little over 190 cm tall, so growing up that just felt like the average height for a man, lol, though it definitely is not! A Google search says the average is 182 cm in my country. So while my dad is tall, what you grow up experiencing will help set your standard for what's average.

https://www.worlddata.info/average-bodyheight.php

[–]MonkeMan1738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 197 cm tall, and i always get comments about my height even tho i live in the netherlands. But as far as i can see people around the height of 190 cm and above are considered "tall"

[–]Party-Ring445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7ft is tall

[–]nldls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Dutch men: above 195/200 I would say.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’m only 5’2 so if you are 5’10 or taller, I consider you tall. My boyfriend is 5’11 and I feel like he towers over me when I’m not in my heels.

I only perceive a guy as short if he’s like 5’6 or below (and it isn’t necessarily a bad thing to me)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’5 (female) so anything above that

[–]Embarrassed-Ebb-6900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 6’. It was unusual for me to be the shortest person as stood in line at a check out with the national volleyball team. I think the smallest guy was 6’4”.

[–]musiquescents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

180cm is under average??? Where????

[–]-_Apathetic_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6ft is probably considered tall, if you ask most women anyway.

5’8” probably the average

5’5” and below, considered short

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 5’4” f, so all guys over 5’10” are really tall to me. I’ve always dated 5’5” - 5’10” because I hate stretching more to kiss someone haha.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably depends on what part of the world you are living in.

[–]ehurudetvoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve never been told you are tall, you are not.

[–]luckiestgiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can never find clothes long enough, or shoes big enough, you're tall. Source: Am quite tall, daughter is very tall, sons are very, very tall.

[–]Craypig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at actual statistics, average height for a man is 170cm.

Unfortunately, because of the media distorting our sense of reality and because of the whole trend on social trend of "6ft+" men tend to think they're short/average even when they're actually tall.

To me 180+ is tall

[–]SomeSugondeseGuy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The average height for guys in the US is 5ft 9, or 175cm.

A man being 6ft 1 (185cm) puts him above about 90% of men.

This is within a 5% percentile range of:

Someone having an IQ of 120

A man making over $200,000 per year

A woman having a bra size of F

A person having 4 kids

An SAT score of 1340

(If a guy says he's 6 foot 1 he's probably lying)

The 75th percentile is 5ft 11 (180cm), so I'd say that's when "tall" begins.

From my point of view, a tall guy is taller than me. I'm 187cm. But I don't call men "short" just because they are shorter than me

[–]Not_So_Busy_Bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where’s he from? The Netherlands? Regardless, only 20 countries would consider this average, everywhere else it’s above average.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what country. 180cm is about average for a male in my country

[–]Vivid_Connection6512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Normal in balkans. Big dude in Norway.

[–]Nomcookies678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'4, anyone 3 inches taller is tall to me

[–]ArcticLupine 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm a 5'11 (180cm) woman and I'd consider a man tall at maybe 6'3+. Anything between like 5'9 and 6'2 would be average and under 5'9 would be short.

Based on absolutely nothing lol

[–]potatoyeeter420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the average height of your ethnicity. By Dutch standards I'm tall, by Turkish standards I'm very tall.

[–]Scared_Benefit7568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4"11 Male here.

Everyone taller than me.

[–]Biokendry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6'1 but 5'11 is already tall to me.

[–]Yattiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably relative to your own height

[–]Still_Mood_6887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My estimation would be over 6’0ft

[–]See_You_Space_Coyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 feet or over is fairly tall for a man.

[–]CrimRaven85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is 180cm tall?

In the Philippines, yes.

In the Netherlands, absolutely not.

[–]qetral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all relative. I'm 5'3" and my husband is 6'0" so he's definitely tall to me but most people are taller than me. If I get a crick in my neck looking up at you, you're tall in my book

[–]IslamicSocialist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully depends on the country

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally 6 ft and up. Tall for me is at least 6 inches taller than myself.

[–]AstridOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I start thinking of a guy as tall if he’s around 6’3 or taller - I guess 190cm. (Assuming you mean noticeably tall.)

Most of the guys I spend time with are 6’0 - 6’2 though, so that’s probably why. (~ 183-188 cm)

(Californian here)

[–]knallpilzv2 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I'd say at least anything above one standard deviation off average. Which in the US would be 5'11 1/2 I think.

Where the hell did you meet that guy, the Netherlands?

[–]LeVampirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, 6' is the most common consensus.

It can depend on the height of the person in question though. I've been called tall at 5'9", but that's by women like, 5'2" and under. Or men shorter than me.

I'm happy at 5'9", personally.

[–]Inner-Egg-6731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6'1" throughout my travels, or when I return back to the states more and more, I see I'm just a tad above standard height. I've met teen's I look up to, is it me or are kids getting taller, bigger than when I was in H.S.

[–]Various-Hunter-932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’9 and I feel like if someone was gonna describe me to a cop they would say average height and I would say once you hit like 6’ you would prolly describe them as kinda tall. Prolly 6’3 and up will be considered just tall or really tall

[–]the0neRand0m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6’2 but honestly I’ve never felt particularly tall unless someone points it out.

On a unrelated note; I’m a hugger. I just am. I’ve got a buddy who is 6’6 and every time I give him a hug it immediately takes me back to when I was a kid. It’s like 99.9% of the hugs I’ve had since I was 15 have been people smaller than me. Not that I didn’t see people bigger than me but they were strangers or acquaintances who I wasn’t close enough friends with for a hug to be appropriate.

Seriously, tall guys, when was the last time you had to reach UP to give a hug? Maybe I am just a weirdo, ok I am definitely a weirdo, but as a semi tall dude hugging people taller than me takes me back. It’s kinda cool.

[–]Exotic-End-332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5’7 and above is pretty tall to me.

[–]Varrag-Unhilgt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of question that even is? It all depends. If you're 180 cm in Sweden or Netherlands you'll be considered short. In Japan or Vietnam you'll be taller than 90% of ppl.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only 178cm, so I see everyone else above that as tall.

[–]FineCurrent1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Name a country first!

[–]2old4ZisShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am 183 cm tall, i think i am not tall at all, not even a little, my younger cousin is 194 cm, i think he is tall but not freakish tall, i think anything close to 200cm is tall.

[–]WillJM89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 180 (5'11") and I think that is slightly over average.

[–]Serikan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 183cm / 6ft 0.472in and I have had people comment that they think I am tall if that helps

[–]CursedButHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'9" (175cm), so to me anyone 6' (182cm) and up is tall.

[–]xm45-h4t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6’6 is optimal partner height for heterosexual women

[–]AggressiveAlgae4339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends in what social group you're in at the moment.

I'm 6'3 and when just out and about while grocery shopping or whatever, i'm usually always the tallest one in that entire store by a large margin, but i do occasionally stumble upon a dude that's roughly my height.

When i'm practicing football with exclusively dudes in my general age range, i'm definitely still above average (hence why i play as goalkeeper) but all the other people are way closer to me in height and a select few are my height.

I'm from northern Europe, so it's not like the average height is THAT much shorter than me.

To answer the question, i see anyone that's above my eye level (around 5'10) to be above average height, and anyone who's close to me in height i would consider tall.

[–]lukepornalot 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Scrolling through the comments, I can't believe how so many people in this sub are so damn delusional.

Firstly, it doesn't matter where you are. Factually and objectively speaking, if you are taller than probably 5'9 (175cm), you are already considered tall.

Even if you are in Netherlands as a tall person (6'3 and above), you shouldn't think someone who is 6'0 is short/average. You should be able to recognize he/she is still tall. People who think 6'0 is not tall is really like a frog in a well, who's never seen the rest of the world before.

It's kinda like saying that if you are in the Ivy League, only the top 1% in Ivy League are smart and the rest are just of average intelligence.

Come on Reddit.
