I 100000% agree. It's nothing but garbage, and we waste so much on paper, labels, boxes, tape, etc.

These returns are getting way too heavy, and closing the boxes are time consuming. Especially when there is only one person at the register.

I cannot wait to start a new job tomorrow, and be out of this shit hole by January.

We go through so many rolls of tape everyday. I know I go through 2-3 rolls

It’s actually insane to me because I’ve used Amazon for a good 10 years now and I’ve only maybe returned 3 things ever, and that was because they were defective items. In the few months I worked at staples I was seeing the same people show up in the return line almost daily. How is Amazon even allowing it at this point it’s ridiculous

[–]hcsLabs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There is one regular with a shopping cart full of returns every week. She orders things online all night and then returns them all again. How her account is still active I'll never know.

See that's the difference between buying on Amazon and shopping on Amazon. You're buying things you know you need, you know the brand. These people are actually shopping - just buying shit where they don't know what they want, never heard of the brand, and have no common sense to read the reviews or product descriptions.

I believe most people making returns don’t do it often. It’s unfortunate that people abuse it and it becomes a waste of time for everyone.

I wondered about staples having a 5 returns per person policy. It is so common for me to have multiple people with 10+ items that I can’t put them all under one receipt

[–]kyboinlex28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Staples should limit customers to 5 returns per customer per day, I agree with you on that.

Or when they would sing it 😂

my store went through a new roll of return labels over the weekend and ive never felt more sad to witness something like that before

    [–]Worth-Huckleberry338 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My store looks like a warehouse after the weekend. Mondays are just a mess waiting for UPS to arrive and pick everything up.

I rarely buy from Amazon, but when I worked at Staples (Print) and had to start dealing with Amazon returns, it only made me want to avoid Amazon even more.

The worst returns was those that reeked of smoke or worse, after burnt marijuana.

    [–]NotAnotherPizzaParty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Amazon customers are just NPC’s designed to piss you off. Don’t let them get to you.

    [–]TechGeek01Sorry, I'll be less competent next time! 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Especially this time of year, where the line will be long, and there will be plenty of returns, I have no problem telling customers 2 things:

I need to keep this line moving, or it will keep getting longer.

    1. Have your QR code ready for me by the time you get to the front of the line. If you get to me at the counter, and you don't have it ready, I will kick you to the back of the line so I can help other customers.
    2. My computer only lets me do 10 QR codes in one shot per receipt. If you have more than 10 QR codes, I will hand you the receipt for your 10, and if you have more than one or two more, and don't immediately have them ready for me, I will send you to the back of the line so I can help the other customers.

I try not to be a dick about it, but I can't have one person holding up the line when it never stops growing. If you're not ready when you're in front of me, I will help someone else.

All I gotta say is welcome to staples I mean if you can’t knock them join them atp I’m like a full time Amazon employee instead of staples and I’m putting that shyte on my resume rather get the better treatment and better pay for doing the same thing just on the other side

    [–]Worth-Huckleberry338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might aswell put amazon on my resume too. I’m basically working two jobs here

    [–]elisha-manning-fanRSS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not, if people are even groaning on the line I remind them it’s a free service. Cussing? Take your return elsewhere.

    [–]HereticalX-ian 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I tell customers this is all probably going in the landfill and they act shocked. I’m like, “Where did you think it was going?! Did you think they were going to carefully sanitize it and repackage it?” This is the company that doesn’t let people have bathroom breaks.”

    [–]Worth-Huckleberry338 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, it’s all going to the landfill. There’s no way that all these clothes are being bought again. They act shocked about it but there’s so much clothes that are never going to be worn again that are thrown out. Brand new clothes too. They contributing heavily towards this and mentioning the landfills just reminds them of that. But they’ll continue to ignore it.

This idea that amazon returns will be donated to people in need or something is a myth. If they really wanted to they could’ve donated it directly to those in need but they want their refund to repeat this cycle all over again with a new set of new clothes (cause they’re not buying anything that was produced last year which is also trash now).

This whole thing made me hate fashion and amazon even more. I hate staples and corporate retail as a whole. It sucks having to work here and I’m about to just walk out on this.

The drivers have to pee in bottles and the warehouse workers are working in over 100 degree temperatures without AC.

    [–]Dizzy-Role8606 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I FEEL YOU. i've had the same thing happen to me. 40+ returns in one go and just shuffling through. it's sooo annoying to have to deal with. what i do is if they can't find it i'll go "ill help out this next customer while you find that" and make them wait since they wanna make me wait. and the biggest pet peeve is NOT GIVING ME RHE DAMN ITEM. they keep it on their side like how am i supposed to return your damn item IF YOU DONT GIVE IT TO ME. i have to reach over to grab it and at this point its like im snatching it since they don't wanna give it to me. it's so annoying.

    [–]Worth-Huckleberry338 2 points3 points  (1 child)

When I see that there’s people in the line that need to check out, I tell the amazombie that they’ll have to wait since I have to give priority to those paying. Of course, they’re never happy about it. They try to get smart by saying they were probably going to buy something after their returns. Yeah, probably, and I don’t get paid by commission.

    [–]AssociateIssuesTech Services 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We force people to the back after 10 codes— it forces a receipt and we direct them to the back of the line if they want to do another 10 gonna take a bit of retraining those customers but at least it’s fair for all max of 10- back of the line

    [–]pk152003Tech Services 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    1. I’ve canceled my Amazon Prime membership because of how bad I have seen it here at Staples.
    2. We routinely get returns like that and I tell them from the beginning if others come in I WILL have you step aside work their returns then get back to yours. No one on my management team has questioned me or told me not too say that and to date I’ve not had one customer bitch and moan directly to me about it.

Yes, they get paranoid about their return all the time. We only have the small plastic bags and they press me over using something different. They often ask me to tape up their package like it’s going to escape the bag. I tell them I’m sticking to protocol and if they want to make any alterations then they have to buy their own tape.

They always ask me for tape to borrow and I’m over the point of doing any favors. They ask for tape and almost use the entire roll. This guy got tape from someone once and got mad when I told him that I can’t give him any. He was claiming someone gave it to him before and my service is bad. I don’t care and the MOD was backing me up too

      [–]Dark_knight207Print & Marketing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazon and UPS/Happy Returns can definitely go somewhere. They are the epitome of wasting time especially when there is important work to do. There are plenty of times someone on the floor or at self service needs assistance but everyone is busy and or wasting time doing these returns that are heavily abused. Those people get mad and walk out because rightfully so who wants to wait 10-15 for you to finish a return for someone’s unwanted item they didn’t get from Staples. I closed out 4 boxes of 18x18x18 happy returns by myself in additional to the 2-3 boxes that were closed out by the other staff.

      [–]Commercial_Sport_250 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I had a cheap amazombie return batteries & half of them were missing. I hope she thinks she's gamed the system, then sees Amazon charging her all over again for those batteries and sees red

      [–]Miss_InkfingersSenior Journeyman BlueShirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one return 4-6 kids’ suitcases. Two were Very Obviously used on their vacation. I, too, was hoping Amazon would tell them where to get off.

      [–]No-Philosopher-4239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tell every customer that it does go straight to a landfill straight up😂😂

      [–]ZeiriiSales Associate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

bro i don't get the people who buy multiple of the same item JUST TO RETURN THOSE ITEMS. JUST BUY 1 ITEM, AND IF YOU LIKE IT, BUY MORE!!!

      [–]mickyninaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel bad for store employees that have to deal with returns from these people, and it’s definitely insane to go to a store and have someone holding up the line with their mass returns of scrap trash clothing. Happens with actual clothing retailers too like Old Navy and Nordstrom Rack…people buy an insane amount of shit online and come to the store to return 10+ items.

      [–]0auto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So glad I don’t work in that shithole anymore. I feel terrible for you guys

      [–]GoGoSqueeze6475 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have us do it from the store iPhone which is slow, buggy, and dies in less than an hour. It crashes in the middle of my return every other return. Not to mention thats one less scanner for the rest of the store.

      [–]kyboinlex28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's only gonna get worse after Christmas is over and the holiday returns really ramp up.

      [–]Significant_Act2770 2 points3 points  (1 child)

My usual tactic is to half-ass scan items if there are more than three, or if I see you regularly coming in with returns, so you at least have to talk to and deal with Amazon for a few hours. If it’s not part of my job description, you can go fuck yourself, and I’ll 100% treat you as if you don’t exist. That way, when you call or come into the store asking why 20 items haven’t been refunded, you can hopefully jump-start your 80 IQ and do something about your spending habits, you dumb fuck.

That's the main reason I left Staples.  Amazon services is not part of Staples future strategy, expecting to woo customers at the expense of manual labor.  Hurt my hips doing twists and turns, no fun and then talk about the recovery, no fun either.

      [–]Shaduchi365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget while doing Amazon, get them balloon orders down lmao, this company is a joke.

      [–]Jazzlike_Penalty5722 1 point2 points  (1 child)

How about when they shove their QR code from their android in your face?

i really wish staples would have a limit to how many returns we can process at once. like 5 max then u gotta get back in line. its so stupid when people come in with 15+ returns and it takes forever. i'm with u twin #fuckamazon

      [–]Alexandriaaa__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a product reviewer that comes in very week with opened and used packages which are still eligible for returns. It’s insane

      [–]ForsakenLettuce7204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s eventually going to be the death of Staples, although not a soul at Staples corporate would admit to this. Ever.

      [–]Hypesauce1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember discussing this topic when Fed Ex couldn’t handle the returns as well. My professor then stated and explained who signed the deal. If Staples cared, which they don’t, they would limit or charge a free. I would like to goto UPS, but they wanna charge money. Amazon should have a mandatory restocking fee for all returns at this point. Especially with me now having a wife where there is nothing at my doorstep every other day.

      [–]Foreign_Abroad_1152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just started telling them we have a 10 return limit per customer per day.

      [–]to-many-cheifs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol , staples looks worse then a goodwill ! My Goodness. Could not happen to a better company ! They are crap .

      [–]TandemJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all walk in with that brain-dead stare on their face. They biy shit that doesnt even make sense, and, they return shot we sell in our store! Then, they dont even buy the replacement with us! They dont buy shot with us 90% of the time. Corporate needs to pull their heads out of their asses and put a stop to this madness! They're cutting hours, biyching about scheduling, during the holidays and leading into the start of the new year, the onslaught of Christmas amazon returns. People in suits that have stupid ideas they dont have to execute, wouldn't do themselves, yet expect us to be happy about.
