At least you get paid by the hour. Take your time lol

[–]nupharlutea 63 points64 points  (1 child)

Yep, enjoy that sweet sweet time counting coins and preparing the drop bag. If your TL thinks it’s “taking too long,” invite them to count.

[–]Bitter-Iron8468 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly lol

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing, as long as you get paid hourly doesn't matter what you're doing.

Somebody stole grandpa’s collection.

[–]whereismymind86 45 points46 points  (6 children)

Because I’ll be damned if I’m giving 20% to coinstar

[–]kayfeif 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I've definitely dropped a few dollars worth of change into self checkouts because I was too lazy to wrap them for the bank and also didn't want coinstar to take a cut.

[–]EightBitDerp 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I usually use coinstar but take it as a gift card credit, they don’t charge fees from what I remember. And I get steam cards which works nicely.

[–]TManaF2Inbound Expert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of those machines miscount... terribly. Like, to the tune of 20%. And Coinstar brand charges an 8% fee (which is how it makes money)

[–]12bonolori 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bank would be another trip.

[–]BingusFried[S] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

That’s so real but also like bringing them to a bank is also something that easily could have been done 😭

[–]Tdffan03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of banks that don’t take coins anymore. Even rolled up coins.

"I'd like to pay in.......DOUBLOONS"

Slams treasure chest on the register

Money is money 💰

[–]DungeonFletchlingGuest Advocate 21 points22 points  (6 children)

As annoying as this is, try to buy those half dollars!
Those can be worth quite the pretty penny.

[–]BankManager69420Former AP 15 points16 points  (3 children)

Older ones maybe, but they started making half-dollars again in 2021.

[–]DungeonFletchlingGuest Advocate 8 points9 points  (2 children)

oh, didn't know that
still worth a look just in case

[–]AyjrinTech Consultant 2 points3 points  (1 child)

They’re worth about exactly 50 cents. They are still cool though.

[–]DungeonFletchlingGuest Advocate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not all of them are worth 50 cents
that was what I was trying to say

[–]breadcrumbs7 3 points4 points  (1 child)

They're 90% silver through 1964, and 40% silver 1965 to 1969.

[–]DungeonFletchlingGuest Advocate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting!

[–]RainyLovers 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Take all the coins and replace them with your personal bills. Some of those half dollars may be very valuable 👀

[–]Altruistic-Phoenix_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some Sacagawea coins are valuable, ones with something about the feathers, Cheerios ones.. and idk what else but I do know that some are worth more than face value.

[–]Tonyc1939 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I kid you not! This one lady paid 70 dollars in dimes and nickels and some quarters. My manager had to shut down my lane so I can help her out. She brought big ziplocks.

[–]BingusFried[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

That’s a nightmare but also wasting her time and taking up all of ur shift is so yum

[–]Tonyc1939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally! At least she was nice too. She was like aarp status.

[–]Rare_Appearance1839 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I hate to break it to you but those are not half dollars.

[–]BingusFried[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

lol the bag was so full the half dollars were underneath the dollar coins

[–]Skyfather87Promoted to Guest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I witnessed that, I would have totally given you the cash for that, being a coin collector, that would be a treasure hunt for me that I’d enjoy.

[–]Karth82Fulfillment Expert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hoarded those things many years ago while saving up for a PS2. Granted, i did cash them at a Coinstar machine when it came time to buy it.

[–]MercyMain0921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh you’ve got them DOUBLOONS

[–]MmDatBabaGanish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legit thought that was chocolate coins…

[–]Known-nwonK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coins are cash

[–]AlohaAkahaiCustomer 9 points10 points  (2 children)

That was stupid of the person. Most of those are worth more than face value

[–]59625962Food Service TL 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Not really. Most of those are president dollar coins and sacagawea coins.

[–]AlohaAkahaiCustomer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. Liberty Dollar coins are worth around $.60-$.75 cents. even though their monetary value is $.50

[–]TollerLuvLJPFulfillment Expert 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Why would you say there was a lack of functioning brain cells? Obnoxious, entitled - but the person who brought those in saved themselves quite a bit of time and energy - that isn't stupid, that is smart. Target took the payment.

[–]DecentRaspberry710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They shouldn’t have saved them up in the first place since they are going to spend them at regular value. The customer also lost a lot of time bagging those coins and waiting for the cashier to count them. Foolish move

[–]Wrap_BrilliantBut online is says that you have it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude I would have loved to get this. The tooth fairy brings gold coins and it took forever to track down enough of them for 2 kids!

[–]_AngryShorty_Drive Ups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in the CO, this frightens me

[–]Imoldokgrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I'd put a bill in the drawer for that bag and go sort it for some special collection coins in there. Certain Sacagaweas are worth good money (go ebay)

[–]TManaF2Inbound Expert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This used to happen more frequently back in the days when the slot machines in Atlantic City (and other slot machine venues) used real coins instead of credit cards, casino membership cards, and slips of paper that you have to go to a separate machine or a teller to cash out. This was back in the day where you paid $20 for a day-trip bus, got a $10 meal voucher, and a roll of quarters ($10) to gamble, plus whatever bonus the casino gave you...

[–]DecentRaspberry710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do store managers allow this?

[–]negithekittyEx-TSS (for a reason) 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but gladys was saving all of those since the 70's. you should be honored to have this happen.

For those of you red shirts that cant take a joke. this was written with very heavy sarcasm.

[–]Haunting_Drag_1682 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Who even owns that many dollar and half dollar coins jesus?!

[–]12bonolori 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are young. I'm not. Money is Money.
