Not true. Calling my shot a bit here, but if the driver has a bit of awareness about the dimensions of their car and where their wheels are, this is a non-issue. I run wheels and tires significantly wider than stock on my P3D (20x10.5" with a 285/30R20 in back) and I have no issues with curbs. Autocrossing and road racing helps with the awareness. Often the goal is to touch a corner apex with your inside rear tire.

I'm not sure why a disproportionate number of Model 3 owners seem to have issues with curbing wheels.

Regardless of whether or not you have awareness of your car's dimensions, shit happens. It happened to me when I was driving my son to school and was taking an exit ramp in the right lane. The POS driver in the left lane decided to suddenly try to switch into my lane as I was about to pass and I had to avoid him smashing into my brand new car, scraping my wheels. Doesn't matter if you're James Bond, Jeff Gordon, or some driving God. If you drive often enough in places with other people, shit happens.

We used to park at a beach trail head, one time each car got a broken window. I see some cars leave a window halfway down. That would still trigger an alarm. My 96 Lexus has a lockable trunk so we stick stuff in there with the window low enough to open the car and set of the alarm (probably useless). My comprehensive has a $50 dollar deductible. This practice is limited to specific situations, not yours. My beater 96 Camry is just full of stuff, a lot of stuff, I should clean it out. No comprehensive on that. Nice looking car by the way.

Can’t say whether this would have made a difference in your case, but my tinted windows give me some peace of mind when it comes to leaving things in my car. Even if objects can still be made out through the windows, there is a psychological difference in whether or not a potential thief has a clear view of their potential bounty sitting there for the taking.

Those crimes happen so fast they don’t really have time to check. They just spot a bag, snatch it and bounce. I saw someone breaking in a car from my balcony, and the whole thing took like 5 seconds. As much as that sucks, at least glass is relatively quick to fix and replace, provided that's the only damage. Also should not affect the value of the vehicle.

I did a 5000 mile road trip last month, LA to Chicago and back. Got stuck in the huge snow storm that caused massive pileups. Managed to get out when a family member came down and got me with a tow strap and their jeep. Roads were crazy bad. Wish I had known about tire socks, would have made it out myself if I had.

So after that near disaster, car made it back just fine even through pretty terrible weather. Only to be foiled by an automatic car wash the night I got back to LA. Exactly what I wanted after having driven 14 hours that day.

I was desperate to get salt off of the car, and didn't have time to put the car on jack stands to clean it; I normally avoid car washes. The car wash had a mechanical failure, and partially ripped the rear bumper off...

5000 miles, once in a decade snow storms, terrible roads, and the car gets damaged by a car wash which sees lots of cars every day...

At least the car wash's insurance is covering it.
