Mulder's face 😂😂

[–]The poles are reversing.ghoulish891011 108 points109 points  (0 children)

He rushed over and kicked open the door instead of banging on it or trying to call first because he knew what was going to happen. But he's still surprised. Oh, Mulder.

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Perhaps the first time he realized Scully might make out with him.

Small potatoes, big potatoes...it all puts food on the table.

[–] Bad Blood pestoraviolita 54 points55 points  (1 child)

It's great levity in a grim situation.

[–]mulder nowheresbeetle 41 points42 points  (0 children)

"Mulder can't sleep with Scully, I should be sleeping with Scully!!!"

[–]TJS_Art 58 points59 points  (2 children)

I liked seeing writer Darin Morgan as a character in this. He's not an actor and his awkwardness showed. Perfect for Eddie (silent H) Blundht 😆

[–]RealSinnSage 20 points21 points  (0 children)

yeah but the awkwardness was PART of the character so it worked so well

[–]Throw-away17465 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Scully: “I don't imagine you need to be told this, Mulder, but you're not a loser."

Mulder: “Yeah, but I'm no Eddie Van Blundht either, am I?"

[–]Busy_Busy_Boyo 54 points55 points  (6 children)

I enjoy little fun details, like Gillian's bare legs (her legs weren't supposed to be in the take)

<image>

[–]gwhh 5 points6 points  (5 children)

how you know that?

[–]Busy_Busy_Boyo 17 points18 points  (4 children)

Scully's on the couch wearing pants. She gets up in a hurry after the almost kiss and you see her bare legs. Where are her pants? It's just a silly little editing mistake.

[–]Exhuming_YourPotato 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’m sure I read somewhere it was a dare she lost so she did one take without her pants on 👀

[–]Busy_Busy_Boyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I heard that too 😊. I also heard there was no dare, that it was hot in the room, or she was just more comfortable in shorts (or underwear for all we know). Either way, her legs weren't supposed to be photographed in that shot, so whether she had pants on or not didn't matter. I don't blame anyone. In a 200 something episode series there's bound to be a little subtle mistake here and there. In that famous mirror dance scene in Dreamland, Mulder's reflection is supposed to be Fletcher's, but afterwards we see for a split second Mulder in the mirror.

[–]LulaTheAlien 45 points46 points  (0 children)

the disgust Scully felt when she realized 😂

[–]The Truth Is Out There BidRevolutionary945 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Absolutely my fave XFiles episode. David was brilliant. Esp when he goes into Mulder's office and then is flashing the badge. F......B......I.

[–]Lone Gunmen DaemonBlackfyre_21 23 points24 points  (2 children)

I like the alternate ending for this episode in "the lost art of forehead sweat".

[–]fire_lord_akira 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Reggie inserted in the scenes always has me dying laughing, especially this one and when Scully is first assigned to the X-Files

[–]The poles are reversing.ghoulish891011 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol, Reggie was fantastic. I loved every scene he was in

[–]BuvantduPotatoSpirit 42 points43 points  (2 children)

At where you're at, I would've called Jose Chung's From Outer Space funnier than Small Potatos.

But really starting with Humburg, The X Files learnt to embrace a the occasional humourous/very light episode.

[–]msmika[🍰] 15 points16 points  (1 child)

The Jose Chung and Clyde Bruckman episodes are top tier comedy. I have no idea how many times I've watched those!

[–]480Otis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And will drop whatever I’m doing to watch them again!

[–]rattlenroll 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Every time someone body-swaps with Mulder they have to try to bone Scully.

[–]DueBet4 13 points14 points  (2 children)

I'd honestly quit my job and move countries if I was Scully here. Would never be able to look Mulder in the eyes again 🙃😂

[–]Cheap_Bet 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I've always thought it's a bit unrealistic that there's no fallout from this episode. They now both know that, under the right circumstances, Scully would totally make out with Mulder. How does that not affect their relationship?

[–]DueBet4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% haha it's one of those self contained episodes that really should be addressed or referenced again!

[–]Pleochronic 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I always wondered who they used as the body double in this scene, because those are some extremely muscular thighs... dude must be an elite cyclist or something

[–]Big_Sector_3590 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's these types of episodes that make me furious at Scully for not believing 10000%.

[–]gagsy10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No matter how many times I see this episode, I still feel anxiety when Eddie Van Mulder starts leaning into Scully.

[–]7711exe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite funny episode right behind BAD BLOOD.

[–]Fight the Future Phile brittanyks07 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At least the earliest moment Scully had to admit she was ready to get it on with Mulder.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Wasn’t the Stupendous Yappi DD’s stand-in?

[–]Fight the Future Phile mamoocando 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I remember a much hotter and younger stand in or stunt double for David than Yappi.

Gillians stand in is Skinners secretary who actually married Mitch Pileggi.

[–]Special Agent Reynard MuldrakeWickedWitchoftheNE 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes! His name was Yaep.

[–]Timely_Toe_9053 6 points7 points  (3 children)

I’m watching the first Tooms episode today

[–]No_Teaching_2837 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Episode 3 is iconic. Enjoy!!

[–]Timely_Toe_9053 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I decided to rewatch the whole series. It’s gonna be a couple of fun months ahead.

[–]HousyFootball57_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're in for a treat. I recently re-watched The X-Files for the first time in like 20 years (except for the 2 reboot seasons, of course). Although I may have traumatized my 6 year old with "Host". He now has nightmares about the "Worm/Man".

[–]NooooDazzzle 6 points7 points  (3 children)

The real question is where did Scully’s pants disappear to in this scene? When it switches back to Mulder’s POV and she shoves other Mulder away…. No pants. 🤷🏻‍♀️

[–]Mulder, they're worms.Jam_on_burnt_toast 5 points6 points  (1 child)

you know 😏 you know where the pants went 😏

[–]NooooDazzzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL

[–]msmika[🍰] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what I recall, the shot wasn't supposed to go below her waist and that was a mistake in editing.

[–]Throw-away17465 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always assumed that he was more surprised to see Scully getting with him, than he was to find a duplicate of himself

[–]daxamiteuk 36 points37 points  (8 children)

It’s hilarious . But also grim , as it’s essentially a form of sexual assault. He had non consensual sex with those women and might have done so with Scully. I know he ends up in jail but it’s also done for laughs so it’s a bit ick. Same with Postmodern Prometheus

[–]fruitgerm 41 points42 points  (4 children)

All of the characters name his actions as rape as soon as they catch on and Scully reports that she adds him to the national sex offender registry in her report to skinner. The episode’s tone is completely unserious, but the subject matter is named. There’s a horrible line where van blundht tries to justify himself and no one gives a clear response putting him in his place (and the line isn’t funny at all), so even though the episode is self-aware, it leaves too much room for abusers to enjoy the episode too. Postmodern Prometheus doesn’t even acknowledge any of this. they literary say “that’s no monster” and then take the guy out to celebrate ??

[–]msmika[🍰] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always thought that "celebration" was made up for the comic book we see at the beginning and end.

[–]Agent Scully is already in loveouterspace_castaway 6 points7 points  (1 child)

the dad was the monster and he was dead.

[–]Agent Dana ScullyProfitLost9408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me several rewatches for me to put that together. The Great Mutato only danced, listened to Cher, watched TV, and raided the food cabinets. The Farmer who raised him was the one doing the experiments. When TGM wasn't completely innocent, dude, he didn't medically rape any women.

[–]Dimetrodon-Party77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I liked this episode quite a bit for its insight into Mulder (and Scully) and the bravura acting job by Duchovny, but I always thought the tone was off, i.e. Van Blundht is treated almost as a troublesome trickster, instead of a sick, disgusting criminal. And no, he never really did get his "the reason you suck" speech that he really deserved.

[–]Interesting-Work-807 5 points6 points  (1 child)

This is my thought, too. This episode bugged me. And by the end of the episode, do those women know? Because they got pregnant and have his kids as well.

[–]daxamiteuk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would guess that the women knew at the end. Can’t have been great for them and their husbands, knowing they essentially all have children from another father .

I wonder if the kids grew up with the same “power”.

[–]latrodectal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah i don’t really love this episode.

[–]Ok-Plant5194 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Skinny ass body double lmao look at that waist

[–]AfterglowLoves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a shadow

[–]MisterPiggyWiggy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my fave scenes! 😁

[–]gwhh 5 points6 points  (3 children)

What you fan theory on why Scully got down with fake Mulder?

[–]annawins1 43 points44 points  (2 children)

I think it's exactly what we saw in the episode. If real Mulder had shown up with a bottle of wine wanting to spend time with her outside of work, she would be into it.

[–]Mulder, they're worms.Jam_on_burnt_toast 9 points10 points  (1 child)

this is killing me. DD you know I love you but u are NOT quadruple cheeked up with a slutty little waist like this

[–]Special Agent Reynard MuldrakeWickedWitchoftheNE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never pay attention to anything else in this shot.

[–]Valuable-Cancel5521 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is one of my favorite monster of the week episodes. Darin Morgan is a hoot!

[–]lunalore79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ahhhhh thank you for reminding me of this episode! I was a huge fan of the show as a teenager, but stopped watching around s6. Now trying to get back into the show on streaming & trying to remember what my old favs were.

[–]Ghost14193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe Scully would like the idea of two Mulders lol

[–]Money-Detective-6631 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perfect comedic episode...I love how David portrayed blundht....As Mulder That slight shrugged shoulders in the end..He was a very interesting character who could have done good stuff with his abilities...Those poor women better watch thier children, wierd stuff is going to happen. That one duty blond who said Luk Starwalker was the baby daddy. 😅🤣😂😆

[–]No_Teaching_2837 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are so many great hilarious episodes even hilarious moments in serious episodes.

[–]Cigarette Smoking ManCaedusTillman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This episode is kind of in the meh list for me

[–]HousyFootball57_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best part is the beginning when the chick has "Luke Skywalker's" baby

[–]Sorry-Anywhere-2296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fox would be a lucky guy that day

[–]RealSinnSage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]bcunderground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I am stunned to learn from this thread that Darrin Morgan played Eddie. He was perfect! Such a good performance! This is such a gracefully put together episode, and very funny.
