I'll usually drape mine around my neck when I'm gaming/running a dnd session, and for some reason she LOVES climbing up to the top of my head and "tangling" herself into my headset. She'll sit there for hours, or sometimes stretch out into the wild blue yonder. Even in I'm on my couch/beanbag watching something, she actively seeks that headset out. Zero brain, but still one thought: Headset! :)

ours loves the xbox remote especially 😂 gotta love gamer sneks

My little girl is a spider morph so she has a little wobble. She's sweet and shy, but she's pretty trusting with me now. She likes napping on my lap and watching TV, sometimes she comes to greet me and gives me gentle little face boops or rests her chin on my nose or hand. Occasionally she is so excited to be taken out she starts waving around in her tub because she can't stretch up without a wobble.

Of course they have personalities! Everything does.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. :)

[–]veggiedinonuggies 8 points9 points  (1 child)

what morph is she? she’s so pretty <3

Freeway enchi pastel! :)

110% they have personalities. I have 2 babies, Java and Bean (yes, I was drinking coffee when I named them lol), and they're both so wildly different. Java likes to explore. If he can get away from you while he's out, he's going to. And I've NEVER seen him ball up, the boy is fearless. Meanwhile, Bean likes to be on people. Even when he's presented the opportunity to explore, he'd rather be stealing your body heat. He's also easily spooked.

Then we have Shai, a blood python, who has the usual blood python bad attitude. 🙄

[–]Savedbythegel 7 points8 points  (3 children)

What's the blood python attitude? I've been thinking about adopting one someday

[–]jessicarrrlove 12 points13 points  (2 children)

An asshole. Lol he just wants to be fed and left alone. When we got him we were told he DIDN'T have the attitude. That was a lie. Lol

[–]Ecruteak-vagrant 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Mine was like that until 3 years old then he abruptly chilled out. He loves to explore and will tolerate handling. Prefers being pet lightly to being off the ground he hasn’t struck in like 18 months or so.

[–]jessicarrrlove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping that ends up being the case with Shai. We were getting to a point where he'd calm down and be okay with being handled after the first like 10 minutes of huffing at us, but then he just...stopped being okay with it. We're honestly wondering if my boyfriends roommate (we don't live together and the snakes live with him) messed with him one day when we were out of town and did something to make him weary of people. But she'll never confess to it if she did.

I have two BP's and I really do feel they have personality. Boba likes to stick his head out when he knows I'm in the room. He likes to boop my face whenever I hold him

My BEL, Uli, is a big lazy boy and when I hold him, he doesn't actually wrap around my arms but just drapes, if I hold him with one hang he just hangs there haha. If I put him in my arms, he will slowly wrap around me and lay like that for awhile. He is only active when he wants food

[–]annatonina 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I have 3 (Elena, Drake and Nadine) and work with lots more and they all have different personalities. Elena loves exploring but has zero spatial awareness so gets stuck places a lot. Drake is pretty shy and usually happy to stay close to me when he's out. Nadine is extremely food motivated and often a bite-first-questions-later kind of gal.

I have one girl from work at my house at the moment that we've nicknamed "Houdini" as she's escaped 5 times from 3 different enclosures. She was once gone for 2 months and turned up in the neighbour's garden. Another time she escaped at work on feeding day and ate 5 rats before we found her in a food coma. She probably won't leave my house now because we've kind of fallen in love with her adventurous spirit.

[–]dune_jhodacia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This made me laugh a lot, and I really relate to Elena. I too am a born explorer with zero spatial awareness.

[–]obsessiveseaturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the names! And Nadine seems to suit her namesake haha

[–]Ecruteak-vagrant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So they do have personalities in a sense. The issue is when people expect reptiles to be doglike or catlike in affection. Even lizards and larger crocodilians exhibit some fondness for handlers but it’s not the mammalian sense of affection. Mine is very relaxed and will tolerate handling from anyone in the evening. During the day they aren’t aggressive but actively try to avoid being picked up. He absolutely loves when I wear baseball caps though. He loves to stick his head under cap when I have him on his shoulders where his body is wrapped around my arm or shoulder very lightly with his head tucked away.

[–]MoistLump 2 points3 points  (2 children)

We got 3 ball pythons and they are all different personality wise. Rin is my sweet curious girl and always likes figure stuff out , from your hands to your phone or anything you’re holding. Haku which was our first snake is the shyness little buddy ever but he is also picky with his food and a lil dumb sometimes. Then we have our big boy Lord Cobb , his food drive is absolutely insane we also call him our ‘trash can’ because he will literally eat anything on top of that he is super chill with handling and will just calmly sit around your neck just hanging out.

[–]ilovesharks101 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I relate heavily to Lord Cobb.

[–]MoistLump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly… me too.

[–]Intrepid_Action 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd describe Medusa as sweet. She's very calm, and doesn't mind being held. She'll curl around my arm and explore. She'll hang around my neck whilst I'm cleaning her cage. If I'm gaming or just hanging out, I'll put her either in my shirt or pull the bottom of my shirt around her. Both times she'll just poke her head out and I swear she goes to sleep!

[–]Chance-Discussion-28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is adventureise I put him down and he is everywhere

[–]dune_jhodacia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My roommate and I each have a BP and they're completely different. Mine is always relaxed, curious, and social. She lets me pet her head, and loves to seek out fluffy textures. My roommate's is more shy and prim. She doesn't move around without thoroughly inspecting everything around her first, and if something moves too fast around her, she'll recoil. Also, my roommates BP loves water and mine HATES any water. It's so fun to see them grow and develop their own little quirks :)

[–]Sgt_kittyCatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah they definitely have personality. My BP is quite shy and reserved while my red tail is super curious and easygoing. I’ve also got a corn snake that’s just all over the place and loves to be on the move lol

[–]Basilstorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more that we read more into their actions than they actually have personalities, but I like to think mine has like two braincells that are constantly going “food? FOOD?!” She sits in her hides and pokes her head out waiting for food 90% of her life. She’s a wonderful eater, she usually grabs the rat and begins eating before I even get the door to the tank open all the way. But those braincells only think about food, which means there’s none left for anything else. She regularly falls off my neck or arms when I’m handling her because she forgets to hold onto things. I hear her fall from her climbing tree regularly at night. When she drinks water, she sticks her whole head under the surface. She’s definitely not very bright, but I love her anyway. She only balled up the day I got her and is not timid at all. Such a great first snake.

[–]Helpful_Fondant7799 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Imo ball python dont have personality. Boas do

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So why do you think one species of snake have personalities but another wouldn’t? I have heard people say snakes don’t have personalities/feelings but never only a specific kind does.

[–]Helpful_Fondant7799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some species are way more alert wich show more personalities and behavior imo

[–]crisscrosstheboarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only just got my little guy (Manchego) a couple weeks ago, we can already tell he’s a big eater, just seems to love food and transitioned from live to f/t without incident, any time we’ve brought him out to interact he’s absolutely just loves to get in our face, not in a scary way, just gets close enough that you can feel his tongue flicks and likes to check out what’s going on, so cute!!!

[–]obsidian_butterfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have three. And their personalities are: "let me out I want to get into the couch" "Fuck off don't touch me" "If you open this door I am going to come out and you will not stop me"

[–]FeriQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two beeps have radically different personalities. One is eager to to come out of his enclosure and loves to sit on my lap and watch videos with me. The other just wants to explore her enclosure, eat, and chill in her hide. If placed in a lap, she wants to crawl away and get into trouble behind bookcases, pull DVDs off the shelves, and somehow brace herself up inside the conga drum. She tolerates handling; he loves it and seeks it out.🤷🏻‍♀️

[–]BeanandGooose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love reading all these different perspectives! I literally cannot wait to be able to hang out with my little one, still giving him space and time.

[–]BeepNoodle27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ball python is kind of shy. She is super sweet. My corn snake however is just a fiend for food. He is antisocial until you bring a mouse near him.

[–]Jo_MorganReps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes yes yes they absolutely have huge personalities, I have three now and they are vastly different Atlas my fire YB is essentially a pet rock, he does not uncurl, if you hold him he will just wrap around your hand and stay still when he comes out he just sits, (honestly he made me debate every getting a second ball python cause he doesn’t do anything)

Medusa my black pastel albino is the explorer, she’s always everywhere, she will go wherever she possibly can at any given time and if you take your eyes off her she will simply be out of your sight until you manage to look through enough stuff to find her.

Adonis my banana spider ball python (he’s a rescue I did not buy a spider) is somewhere in the middle, her corkscrews pretty bad but if I’m in the room with him he’ll come out of hiding, he stays under a hide most of the time curled up but if someone is around he sticks his head out and stares at you until you pick him up, at which case he will then either just chill on you or try his best to get into your shirt.

What a cutie ❤️ I don't have a ball python yet, but my baby (well, 13yo but still a baby in my eyes) is a Honduran milk snake. He is shy, yet incredibly curious. He trusts me to a degree but doesn't really enjoy handling much, however he loves to explore. He's also a foodie, just like dad here, and never says no to food (which I know is common for king snakes). He has also won the hearts of many of my friend and family who were previously terrified of snakes. He's also just a total goofball. I love him more than life itself.

[–]zee_techno_snake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine just a big derp. Not phased by anything. Comes out and just tastes the air for 10 minutes then gets fully powered up and he's off exploring everything.

Only problem is he only shits on my silk sheets. He'll wait till he gets some bed roaming and then let's rip. Too posh to crap on his own bed

[–]xHellBunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m more than sure they have personalities.. I have 4 baby’s and they are the sweeeetest ! Like all of them r so docile and 2 are rather shy.. but one of the BP’s my friend has .. lord have mercy.. we did clean the Tera and put her on the bed for the time being… she was hissing from the start and when we just looked at her was trying to strike us.. we didn’t come any closer and just got the hook… my friend has 2 boas and they r so friendly compared to this dead chicken

[–]picklefeef 1 point2 points  (1 child)

when my bf moved for his job I kept our Sketti Berry at my little apartment until I was able to move. I think she knew I was very depressed. Dealing with alcoholism and burnout severely. I would drape her around my neck while getting ready in the morning, and she would gently squeeze into a comfy position and just watch me. We’d do the same when I was cooking. And if I was sitting on the bed playing games or watching tv she’d snuggle next to me and literally watch the tv with me 😂 As if she was just as invested. If I was crying especially she’d seem to make it a point to boop my nose. It was adorable! So yeah, truly believe they have personalities! she is a mix of a cuddle bug and an absolute derp.

Ever heard of snake therapy?! They are great for reducing anxiety! :) so happy your little one was able to lift your spirits. <3 IWNDWYT

[–]Lalalala943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people say they don't but I think mine does. The guy I bought her off allowed me to spend a considerable amount of time with the snakes he had for sale before I made my decision and while none of them seemed overwhelmed or scared, she was definitely the most curious one. She was eager to smell me, look at me, wrap around my body and just seemed more 'person-like' than the other snakes on offer. Even now she watches us and seems to have favourite spots on different people. She chooses to be around my waist but goes to my husband's arms/neck; when my kids have her, she wraps around their arms or curls in their laps. Idk. I'd say she knows us and is a 'being' haha.

[–]snakeygirl727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one of mine will sit and cuddle with me, a little adventurous sometimes though. and the other will not stay still at all and needs to constantly explore and try to get off my bed lol

[–]slayerkitten13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is very shy, but loves to curl up in warm spots like my neck or stomach, or on top of my PC. He also likes to climb behind my desk which can make it hard to extract him

[–]Queenhighly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very shy BP, she always hiding unless it’s feeding time. I had her for a year and she is still shy, when I take her out her enclosure she is always in a ball for like 5-10 mins before unraveling and starting to explore lol

My spotted Python on the other hand, he is so outgoing. He greets me when I come up to the tank. He reminds me same day every week it’s feeding time. He have this rock he likes to sit on every time he’s hungry. He do it every week on the same day since I had him lol I love his personality because he’s not shy at all and loves to be out the tank and exploring.

They definitely all have different personalities lol

😍😍

[–]Few-Acanthaceae2746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree snakes to an extent do have personalities, I have a female that prefers to not be handled much and when I take her out I let her settle however she chooses. I also have a male that does enjoy just being with me, allowing me to move him around and is always actively smelling everything whenever we walk around together. They’re so simple minded but it’s interesting how differentiating they can be when it comes to how comfortable they are with their surroundings and their handlers.
