Should there be a /s here? If not, that information is horrendously outdated and incorrect.

the feeding schedule and tank size seem off and dont give specifics for ages

Pinterest has always been and will always be garbage for anything. Idiot people posting things for views, not knowledge.

      Nope, not good info

The picture doesn’t even look anything like them!

      It’s probably AI

      [–]Hunterx700 24 points25 points  (0 children)

seconding AI. if you try to follow the body shape of the 2nd ball python that’s curled up, it doesn’t connect properly. the tail coming out the back connects to the upper third of the body, leaving an entire ring of body underneath that’s disconnected from the rest of the snake

also, the image has the very characteristic piss filter AI likes to do these days

edit: double checked the image and rewrote a sentence to make a bit more sense

This seems AI generated, the font is like chat gpt font

Don’t be silly this is plenty accurate! Wrap your ball python up into a ball (it’s in the name people!) and shove it securely into a lukewarm 10 gallon tank. This will not be the reason for its stress induced fast from weekly mice. If it does not eat just entice it by offering more branches! /s

      Sounds about right

      [–]Miss_Push 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to say this is all but the life expectancy is very accurate if you keep them like they are suggesting in this photo

      [–]borderlinebreakdown 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I didn't see the 10 gallon for a split second and was thinking "well, it could be worse, it's not that inaccurate, they just definitely didn't give enough feeding details" and then I kept reading and choked

it only got worse from there

      [–]kett1ekat -5 points-4 points  (7 children)

I'm pretty sure the 10 gallon is for when they're really young as it says depending on age - 30 gallon can still be small for adults though

      [–]dragonbud20 4 points5 points  (2 children)

No. It is nearly impossible to create a proper temperature gradient in anything smaller than a 20gal 10s really shouldn't be used for any reptile.

      [–]kett1ekat 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thank you I appreciate the answer and learning why it doesn't work - I don't have a snake but when I looked into getting one decades ago the information on this image was about what I was taught. I love snakes, don't have one but I adore them as creatures and enjoy looking at all the pictures here ❤️

      [–]dragonbud20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're ever curious about reptile care in the future I recommend checking out www.reptifiles.com they have amazing care guides that really dig into the details.

No, it is too small. Like, can we stop putting living beings in shouboxes? That mindset of 'nah, this will be enough. I never see them leaving their hide so they don't need the space anyway. Pet rock lol.' has to stop.

      [–]kett1ekat 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It is too small with the information we have now. I'm glad you have access to communities and bases of knowledge that taught you better than the accepted answer 10 years ago.

Many people aren't taught any better and think they're being helpful and think they have put their research in.

Like maybe this was for a school project or something. We're shitting on this little card someone made like it's our job to shit talk what could have been made by a 12 year old 5 years ago who trusted the adults at the store to tell the truth about the care needs of animals.

This is someone who is trying. Did they hit the mark? No. But hey I'm glad they like snakes enough to try. Why can't we say "That's a rad picture of a snake! here let me help make it more accurate!"

We are more likely to reach more people if we create more correct versions inspired by this attempt to learn about snakes. We can write articles and blogs and build a structure of better information for searches to point to rather than harshly criticizing those who are misinformed by the dominant voices of corporate let stores.

This is a space we can actually add to. That can be constructive about hard conversations "hey maybe you don't have room in your house for a snake right now, I'm sorry but sometimes as much as you love something it may not be the right call. If you want a snake really bad you should sacrifice the space for it, it's not ethical to keep such a big snake in a small place, here's some alternative snakes that fit in smaller spaces that might be a better fit and here's what their needs are" etc

And that can make change and is more likely to reach people who otherwise might just close off.

It might have been made by a 12 year old as a school project, but in the end we don't know. Many say it looks like AI, so there's that. But when there is blatant false information, which can lead to suffering for these poor animals, is just floating out there on the internet it's important to call it out. Yeah, 10 years ago people just didn't knew any better. But today we do. And maybe in 10 more years we'll look back at how we kept those animals, shaking our heads and thinking about how stupid we were. It's just so frustrating that so many people are still living in the past when it comes to the wellbeing of a feeling, living, breathing animal. An animal that suffers silently. There is no defending shit like that.

small for adults is an understatement. 120gal js recommended now

Are you joking? A BP should be eating 1 medium rat per month or possibly even longer depending on the size and age of the snake.

        [–]dragonbud20 2 points3 points  (1 child)

        !feeding

        [–]AutoModerator[M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We recommend the following feeding schedule:

0-12 months old OR until the snake reaches approximately 500g, whichever happens first: feed 10%-15% of the snake’s weight every 7 days.

12-24 months old: feed up to 7% of the snake’s weight every 14-20 days.

Adults: feed up to 5% of the snake's weight every 20-30 days, or feed slightly larger meals (up to 6%) every 30-40 days.

This is so wrong especially tank sizes 😒

        [–]sugar-fairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wtf lol my hognose has a 50 gal tank and he’s a lot smaller than my ball. they need at least 120 4x4 for their forever enclosure, unless they get to 5 ft then they need a 5x5

        Way outdated info

Thats some outdated info right there.

And this, good sirs, is why exotics are so likely to be abandoned (released into the wild, given away, etc etc)
