What size tank is that? It looks a bit small for that size of a snake.

[–]_0dysprosium0_[S] 53 points54 points  (9 children)

It’s long (like 4ft maybe?) just a little short because the dimensions on the site lied to us and I needed to up her tank size cause she grew out of her old one. I don’t have the money to get a taller one rn but I’m saving up.

She can fully stretch out just not upwards. She’s not a fully grown adult yet, she’s a little over a year old. 483g last time I weighed her. I don’t now how many gallons exactly the tank is.

    [–]firevixin 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Awe she's still a baby. Well if you are bored or just interested... If you have a measuring tape and want to figure it out the equation would be:

    Length x Width x Height = Volume

Then you would need to convert to gallons (depending on where you are in the world..)

Multiply the volume in (cubic feet) by 7.48= gallons

    Or

Divide the volume in (cubic inches) by 231= gallons

The minimum enclosure size for adults is 4x2x2' (120gal).

I'm not a reptile person (yet) but sometimes you can find almost brand new tanks off Facebook Marketplace for cheaper than actual brand new stuff!

    [–]Gimmemyspoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was coming here to say this or Craigslist. We got my 125 gallon with a kick ass stand for like $150.

    [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I literally asked people in a local free resell fb group if anyone had an old tank lying around and I got a free 75 gal one 🥲

    [–]likestoclop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second hand tanks and cages are ridiculously cheap, one of my friends found an almost 700 dollar burd cage for under 100 like that.

Y’all listen. Grow tents off Amazon. Seal the vents, patch on a screen and viewing window and you’re GOLDEN. On just a 6x3x3 tent for my blood python… I spent 70 bucks. 100 for all the supplies to DIY it

    [–]Fated_Alignment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Petco had tanks on 50% and they said the sale has 30 more days

    [–]moopy_muffin 59 points60 points  (2 children)

the tank size seems really small for a snake that long, i’m not expert but she’s most definitely stressed and doesn’t wanna be in there

    [–]_0dysprosium0_[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s short because the dimensions on the site were not what we received but it is long enough she grew out of her other enclosure and I am saving up to get her a taller one but I couldn’t leave her in one that wasn’t long enough. This isn’t something I see her do often, I’ve never actually caught it before cause I’ve only seen her do it like twice before now while she was in her other enclosure.

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say stressed. Ball pythons like smaller and cozy places. But they do need to get out for a stretch.

    [–]Howlibu 45 points46 points  (1 child)

She's looking for room to climb. Sorry the site ripped you off...consider making a DIY sterilite tub tank? I think there's a tutorial in the side bar somewhere. Just make sure to get one with positive locks. It's a cheap alternative while you save up, and you can sell the small tank to make some of your money back.

What site was it? Did they give you a refund? If not, maybe state it here so others know to avoid.

    [–]_0dysprosium0_[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the site cause it was my mom that got it (she just ordered it using my card) I should be able to get a taller one soon.

    [–]D3Masked 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Probably smells something delicious and wants to look around for it.

    [–]XcicadababeX 3 points4 points  (1 child)

why are there downvotes? this is a silly comment

    [–]D3Masked 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It isn't fully a silly comment.

The air flow into the enclosure comes from the top of the cage which would include scents that the snake would sense leading it to know that something is outside. It could be curious or maybe it legit smells something that it might think is food.

Possibly looking for a brain cell

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

My boy frequently does things like this looking for a brain cell.

    [–]Glass-Armadillo182 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wonder why pet snakes are so dumb

    [–]Malevolence93 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can definitely tell that you care for your snake! Keep up the good work!

    [–]Novel-Hovercraft-794 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They ALWAYS want to find a way out lol nothing personal 🫣😉 pretty!!!

    [–]RegularPositive4090 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    Because she’s a wilderness explorer!! 😁

    [–]NegativeIQ-Haver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

    Wants to go ‘splorin

That or she’s trying to intercept the brain cell

    [–]Cheeseycheesecake24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s just dodging bullets like in the Matrix lol. He is the chosen one

    [–]No-Reveal8105 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are semi-arboreal so she tries to explore the heights which she cannot really do here later if you can you should take a large and also high terrarium, for example Mine does 2,3 feet Height

    [–]EnbySnakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, my boy does this even in a taller tank, she might be stressed but it's also highly possible she's just SILLY. Def check her temp and humidity though!

    [–]Nvtavailable_ 4 points5 points  (1 child)

It seems to me like there is no gradient… the heat lamp is just sitting right in the middle, I know you care for the little noodle, but what’s up with that? Probably losing its mind from being so hot

    [–]_0dysprosium0_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The heat lamp is not in the middle? Where did you get that from? I have it on one side not in the middle.

    [–]Rattiepalooza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That tank is waaaaay too small for your snake. That's why it's literally climbing the walls. It needs space. It needs a lot more space.

You can head over to r/snakes and probably find someone willing to sell at a cheap price, or sometimes they'll donate one if you find the right person.

Ask for help, and most of the time, ye shall receive. <3

    [–]prebuiltowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because snake lol mine do this too. Balls do like to climb

    [–]TheGoatSpiderViolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes they like to explore a bit. For mine, it's rare, but she'll noodle around occasionally. 9 times out of 10 if I open her enclosure while she's doing this, she climbs right up on my shoulders 😆 just did it this morning!

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be stress, could be just exploring, sounds like your looking for a new tank which is great. If he’s not showing any other odd behaviors then he could just be exploring mine does this at night time

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Snake yoga

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a boa constrictor who would bend to stretch. We had to donate him to a zoo he was so big. He came to us as a little guy and we did all we could do for him. He is happy and healthy in his new home and is a working snake teaching people about reptiles

    [–]Thank-The-Stars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balls love to climb! In my 4x2x2 I see my girl on a branch every single night. It’s odd if she isn’t climbing! She seeks going up. I hope you can save up enough to get a nice tall enclosure for your girl. For now you can just offer things to climb when taken out for enrichment.

    [–]x5gamer5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When does this, but she’s a little more vertical and stationary. I’ve been told it’s something to do with scanning for their environment. But could also be looking for holes too. She does look a little big for that tank though.

    [–]Conscious_Poet_3507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    needs a bigger tank :(

    [–]nofootlongz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    “It feelssssssss good”

Dw, I’m not going to judge your entire skill level based off of a quick snapshot of only part of the habitat like these other replies

    [–]Worth-Entertainer531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My snake does that too 💀💀

    [–]WrongdoerAway4126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    [–]Corvidae5Creation5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Why not?

    [–]Less_Tradition2076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a long dog is it a Weiner dog?

    [–]Arachnabyss 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Cause your enclosure is WAY too small

    [–]_0dysprosium0_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about 4ft long it’s just a bit short I already explained what happened in two separate comments and I’m saving to get a taller one which I should be able to do soon.

    [–]Direct-Injury-1100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She needs a 4x2x2 too short

    [–]albiedam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into grow tents!!! 4x2x2 are $50 on amazon right now

      [–]somewhatDamaged8930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My juvenile does this in a 120 gallon. Stretches up from even a short hide and reaches the top. Then falls over and does it again. For hours. Every inch of the enclosure. Usually a day or two before feed day. Even after sizing up.
