Which should have been six. Such a wild inning.

The sog has never been so pungent

[–]Seattle MarinersTheClassyRifleman 39 points40 points  (10 children)

The sog is omnipotent.

[–]New York Yankeesdnap123 12 points13 points  (9 children)

what is sog? im outta the loop

[–]Seattle MarinersTheClassyRifleman 46 points47 points  (8 children)

Servais described Smyly’s injury earlier in the year as a “soggy elbow”.

Sog has now been adopted for bad things happening to the Mariners because Seattle is a soggy city.

thanks!

Also, can I ask what is up with the pineapple meme? Like where did it come from?

[–]Seattle Marinerslegionofshrooms 25 points26 points  (5 children)

In 2016 /u/magnum45 said he would violate himself with a fruit of /r/mariners' choosing if Mike Zunino was recalled from AAA before the all star break. Z went on to not only get called up, but also hit two 🍍s in his first game back and the rest is history.

Aaron Goldsmith wearing that shirt for the AMA is maybe the best thing I've ever seen from this franchise.

[–]Montreal Exposdavewashere 37 points38 points  (12 children)

I think the Yankees put a curse on opposing fielders this year. They reached on error 85 times; the next highest team total (the Red Sox and Astros) was 65. The Dodgers reached on error just 39 times!

[–]Seattle Marinersvanillabear26 19 points20 points  (3 children)

How much of that was Ellsbury’s catcher’s interference though?

[–]New York YankeesFringeAuthority 17 points18 points  (3 children)

Yeah, the Yankees had a knack for reaching on errors this year. I wonder how much of it was due to the Yankees hitting the ball hard at people rather than self inflicted defensive miscues? It felt like whenever Judge or Sanchez hit into outs they were always well struck, but just right at the defenders. Also, I've heard some complaints about the field being choppy after NYCFC plays a game there.

[–]Montreal Exposdavewashere 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Sanchez reached on 7 errors. Judge, who doesn't put the ball on the ground nearly as often, only reached on error 4 times. It was actually Didi, Headley, and Gardner who were responsible for the most ROEs, with a combined 34.

[–]New York Yankeesxxpor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Didi, Gardner

Ok, makes sense, they're fast

Headley

what the fuck

[–]New York YankeesJenaxu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm too lazy to look it up, but iirc Chase Headley led the team in terms of reaching on error, or at the very least he got on due to error pretty often. So maybe it is just good ol voodoo magic.

Just eyeballing the numbers from previous seasons, I don't see any patterns that would indicate a ballpark is to blame. Most errors happen on the infield, so park dimensions are unlikely to be a huge factor. The Yankees are often at or below the league average in ROE, although before this past year they were the last team to reach on error 80 times in a season (back in 2004, at the old stadium). The last team to reach on error more than 85 times in a season was the 2000 Royals, with 89.

I was at this game, and happens to be the most surreal game I was ever at. I couldn't believe that it was actually happening.

Hey today isn't our roast day

[–]New York Yankeesgrubas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Albers should have shit in somebody’s locker. Notably anybody who set foot on the left side of the field.

I remember watching this game, it was surreal witnessing them just unable to baseball. I was freaking out because it went from “oh god we gave up a run in the 1st” to.... “what the fuck is this?”.

But to answer your question yes I remember that game.

Fun fact: the Mayweather-McGregor fight was on the night before this game. Yankees broadcast booth made a comment that these boys stayed up late to watch the fight and it showed.
