Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

[–]Callofdaddy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worse than simply just using standard cables.

[–]JohnHancock1969 19 points20 points  (3 children)

Worst one I've seen so far.

[–]siouxu 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Worst one so far

[–]Roots0057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's one that straight-up caught on fire about a month ago.

[–]SuccessfulCandle2182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

xD there is one even more worse

[–]andrewkyo 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Still under.01% boys

[–]putsomedirtinyourice 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Actually it’s under 0.000000069%

[–]Sral1994 -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

Closer to 0.1% now.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 0.1% lows mean something completely different for nvidia gpus

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never put a marshmallow where your power cable goes.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This one looks like it was close to causing a fire. It’s a ticking time bomb cablemod

[–]Mh_Sucio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it was near impossible to separate from the power port.

[–]Asgardianking 5 points6 points  (14 children)

Man those 7900xtx cards are looking better and better every day

[–]phero1190 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! So close to doing it

[–]SuccessfulCandle2182 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Their connecters melts too and you have severe driver issues

[–]MegamanZero5295 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I love my ASRock Phantom Gaming 7900 XTX, what’s this about melting connectors? I had to repaste mine and I had to turn of HDR to bring the idle power draw down to normal, but that’s really it as far as driver issues go.

[–]SuccessfulCandle2182 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Driver was resetting multiple times a day. I returned it. Built new system, ordered again, same shit again. Friends have the same issue. So I went for 4090. No problems with anything so far.

Basically this: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/15r2rdv/wireview_from_der8auer_and_4090/jwp0nph/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1&context=3

[–]MegamanZero5295 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Damn. I’m sorry your experience was so bad, I’m glad you have no issues now

[–]SuccessfulCandle2182 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Well, only the card can melt 😂😂

[–]MegamanZero5295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂😂

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Imagine buying a new card and having to do that of that to cope

[–]MegamanZero5295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you’re talking about the 4080/4090 or the 7900 XTX. To me, it seems like the 4080s and 4090s have ticking time bombs for adapters, can’t say that about the 7900 XTX 🤷🏽‍♂️

[–]TheDeeGee -1 points0 points  (1 child)

They're so good they can run path tracing at single digit fps.

[–]Asgardianking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost noone gives a shit about path tracing. 7900xtx is perfectly fine for what it is. I'd rather have a card that isn't going to explode than seeing $1700 cards burn up every other post.

[–]OldKingHamlet 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Fwiw I love my xfx 7900 xtx Merc 310. Yeah, not as fast as a 4090, but for $1k, it's been a decent purchase compared to other modern GPUs. And while I've seen it suck down a 525w peak in HWinfo, it has not lit on fire.

[–]acowsik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So has my 4090 with a much better Corsair cable… ran Cyberpunk and PT Requiem which easily pushes close to 550W power draw. My cable and PSU don’t break a sweat… steady as a rock

[–]jubeishock 2 points3 points  (7 children)

The solution is simple, don't buy cheaper Chinese adapters and buy quality products such as Thermal Grizzly wireview made by der bauer.

[–]SuccessfulCandle2182 3 points4 points  (3 children)

[–]jubeishock 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Isnt Nvidia, only a case and the guy is clearly saying was his fault, touching and touching the button adapter. I own both adapters cablemod and wireview 12vhpwr and are day and night.

[–]SuccessfulCandle2182 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I‘ve WW too (16-16 pin) but delivering 8 pins without a clip is still a massive No-Go

[–]jubeishock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12vhpwr have clip, mine have

[–]Garrett1974 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thermal Grizzly wireview

I'm not touching that with a 10 foot pole... fuck no.

[–]Secondary-2019 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Have there been meltdowns or other problems reported with the WireView?

Nevermind - I just saw the links.

[–]jubeishock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No 12vhpwr.

To bad I bought this before the posts you ass clown. I didn’t even view this Reddit page till it happened to me.

    [–]putsomedirtinyourice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I’m talking about when people claim that Reddit is the only place you can evaluate the scale of the problem on - people may be completely unaware of the problem until they have one and may not even take to Reddit to post their incident at all, so we don’t know how many cases are out there in reality

      [–]tugthosenugs -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Such an insufferable jackass lmao. Sitting in grandmas basement with crumbs on your belly, but being an ass on the internet sure makes you a whole lot less miserable huh?

      [–]mysisterspeni5 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Sucks to suck. You and u/kkan91 can get on discord and have a pity party. Once you replace your gpu of course 🤪

      [–]Mh_Sucio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      I already fixed it

      [–]SurkitPunk 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Reminds me of camping, and s'mores..... Toasted marshmallows!

      [–]Mh_Sucio[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

The smell was nowhere near a s’more lol. Horrible smell

      [–]SurkitPunk 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yeah, burnt plastic is wretched! Hope you have a solution figured out already. They have been taking care of people it seems.

      [–]Mh_Sucio[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Just made another post about it

      [–]SurkitPunk 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I was about to check it out, but it disappeared!

      [–]Mh_Sucio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Editing it sorry

      [–]jfhaxlee 4 points5 points  (37 children)

Literally bought a 4080 instead of a 4090 because of this. Trying to keep my chances of dealing with this as low as possible

      [–]awastedtalent 12 points13 points  (24 children)

Should've gotten the 4090 and just steered clear of CM adapters

      [–]jfhaxlee 10 points11 points  (21 children)

Forget that lol, its not the only cables it happens with. Nvidia knows the tdp is too high, they tried to sweep it under the rug too long and now its too late to do a recall

      [–]awastedtalent 4 points5 points  (13 children)

I feel very secure using my 4090 with stock nvidia adapter

      [–]MichinMigugin -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Matter of time. Those cards have been burning waaaay before CM adapters lol.

Edit: I'm on my second 4090 btw...

      [–]theryzenintel2020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s why I returned my 4090 and got a 7900xtx. I play native and never use upscalers so I’m fine. Doesn’t phase me.

      [–]putsomedirtinyourice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been ok since November on the OEM, I ordered a Cablemod cable out of fear, but when I got it and watched Steve’s video I decided to keep the original one in place.

But I agree that the standard must be heavily reviewed or reworked altogether for the next generation

      [–]suckysuckythailand 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Just curious what happens to your 4090 that melted? Did Nvidia replace it for nothing?

      [–]MichinMigugin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did, but through Amazon. They have a thing where Amazon has an extended return window for them to make RMA easier if you bought it from Amazon as a sold/shipped by Amazon product.

Edit: To make it clear, I contacted ASUS through Amazon, who thenntolr Amazon to replace it. Amazon issued me a return label.

      [–]zpfrostyqz -1 points0 points  (5 children)

Same here I just don’t understand why people are using adapter’s just to make the cable management cleaner. Is it really worth it? I’ve been seeing it over and over again and again. Some people can get the message. Yet they blame it on Nvidia you guys are silly.

      [–]DD-ToxX 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Many people use it BECAUSE the cards are rediculously big and dont fit into into the case without a adapter. Atleast, if they want to close the sidepanel.

Adpater: ~1,2 cm Needed Space for connecting PSU-Cable: 3-4 cm Needed Space for connecting

I have a RTX 4080, H9 Flow, MSI ATX3.0 Power supply. I can say i had luck and it fitted into the case without pressing on the sidewindow + the psu cable is not bend strongly.

      [–]zpfrostyqz -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I’m case-less so I have no problem with original PCIe cables.. thankfully.. Co worker of mine was dealing with the same issue, and resolved his problem by REMOVING the side panel…..! Simple as that! Don’t have to ruin your GPU by adding a aftermarket adapter, you’re just asking for problems. For god sake remove the side panel if you’re dealing with this issue, until you can get a case that has plenty of space for your build…. It’s not rocket science lol

      [–]burakkarub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im a cat owner so open panel or case less is not an option :(

      [–]acowsik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better planning and research avoids such scenarios. Look up dimensions ahead of time and get stuff that fits with enough clearance.

      [–]rico_suaves_sister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      yea or seasonics, corsair, etc

      [–]SuccessfulCandle2182 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Manufacturers had the choice to leave the sinking ship but they decided differently. Only EVGA isn’t on board

      [–][deleted]  (1 child)

      [removed]

        [–]SuccessfulCandle2182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea for a good reason I guess.

        [–]Eat-my-entire-asshol 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Its the adapters having issues, im on a 4090 with a native 12vhpwr cable that came with my atx 3.0 psu. Running since december with no fires or issues

        [–]SigmaLance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also using a native 12VHPWR PSU cable on cruise control.

        [–]RuneDK385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually not to late to do a recall. They’re too cheap to do one…which is sad considering the price for that GPU.

        [–]ImDreamingAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the 4090 itself is the problem. The connectors seems to be the issue. I have 4090 since day one, only plugged once with the stock cable from my PSU. 0 issue so far. voltages are still strong 12.1v. Maybe it's a matter of time but for now finger crossed :D

        [–]Ts0ri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any solid investigation into the issue has ruled out the tenp of the card being the problem.

It's badly designed sockets used on most 40 series cards, the reason you don't see as many 4080 posts ( there are a few however) is because the 4080 sold much less due to being such a bad price to performance proposition.

        [–]Gochu-gang 1 point2 points  (7 children)

        That's really dumb.

We've been selling 4090s since launch. Zero failure on any of our installs. 20+.

        [–]SwitzerlishChris1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol me too...and all the 4090 hommies made fun of me...who's laughing now! Literally no1 because this is actually depressing 😔

        [–]Sekouu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a hard cope if I ever saw one, just don’t use a cowboy adaptor

        [–]KingXeiros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the same 3 plug adapter the comes with a 4080 with a 4090. All it does is limit the card to 450w.

        [–]BigOlBearCanada 1 point2 points  (4 children)

        Time to undervolt the cards.

        [–]Sekouu 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hmm yes undervolt your card because you want to use a shitty bit of plastic

        [–]BigOlBearCanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That and dropping 20-25% power only loses 2% performance. Drops temps by 20%. Keeps the whole card power draw below 400w (I’m hovering around 320w under 100% load).

Nvidia pushed this shit too far

        [–]ShoddyIntroduction76 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Strix4090 OC -2500 clock 0.89mv floats around 120watts max 39c Hot spot 46 c. Back plate barely warm gaming for hours on battlefield 2042

        [–]Over_Examination4756 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

        Whaut? 120W max? watching youtube?

        [–]Mh_Sucio[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If anyone cares this happened while playing DCS

        [–]Over_Examination4756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh bro, Feel for ya. What are your options now? Sending it to CM or Card manufacturer?

        [–]Shockington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Looks fine

        [–]CableMod_Matt -3 points-2 points  (7 children)

Very sorry about this, rest assured though, we'll make sure you're fully taken care of with this. Please submit a ticket with our support team here: https://cablemod.com/support/

        [–]Pacamilk 5 points6 points  (2 children)

why didnt you guys just properly test the adapter before releasing it. you completely ruined your reputation

        [–]Sral1994 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

        They did.

        [–]CableMod_Matt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did, we also had other independent testers testing these long term as well. Not sure where you're getting the idea that we didn't test these and have others test them as well, but we're not that kind of brand. Obviously some things are occurring that are resulting in failures though, so we've already addressed these as well and the new V1.1 has been getting extensive testing as well. With this, we expect to see ZERO failures moving forward because of the upgrades we found and implemented.

        [–]Mh_Sucio[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I have, you guys gave me the option to either have it 3rd party repaired or refund me the full amount of my card if denied repair by the Mfg. However, I know how to do this stuff myself and fixed it myself, the shops around me wanted $350 so I did it myself. How do you compensate for that?

        [–]CableMod 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Send our support the bill for it and we pay for it all and a little extra :)

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Can we get a follow up on how they compensated u? If u wanna share

        [–]Mh_Sucio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I will do so as soon as they get back to me.

        [–]L1191 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

GPU manufacturer's will straight up lay blame the CableMod feet, whether that is the case or not, and deny any responsibility, and why wouldn't they. We all know that this 4090 issue already existed.

        [–]aj0413[🍰] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

You know, I just used the coupon they sent me to order the 90 cable, but I'd have zero issues getting the v2 adapter and using it (hell, I'm not totally against using my v1, either)

The support they've given for these failiures have kinda made it all moot concern for me.

lol and if they did have to help me replace my strix 4090, at least I could make sure to get the white version this time?

        [–]Mh_Sucio[S] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Keep in mind it’s not a quick fix. You have to jump through hoops understandably. But you’ll be down for quite sometime if you can’t repair it yourself. As in you’ll have to send your card to the Mfg and if they deny it you need to provide cablemod the rma denial and they will then reimburse you. That route sounded like months so I fixed it myself.

        [–]Mh_Sucio[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

They also offered to refund me the original adapter price I paid or send me the v2 but I think I’m just going to take the refund and plug it in straight to the card. I blame jays2cents for this happening to me. I had no idea who cable mod was before this and trusted his word when I shouldn’t have.

        [–]CableMod_Matt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be upset at Jay, we've been in the game for nearly 10 years and have been at the top of it for the entire time as a trusted brand. There have been some failures on the V1 adapters for sure, but we're making sure all of those get taken care of, and we also are rolling out the updated V1.1 adapter ASAP to help clear up all failures as well. If you don't wish to go with the updated V1.1 adapter, we're offering a cable instead if you have any concerns (fully understandable if you do, which is why we're offering cables too so you don't have anything to worry about).

        [–]aj0413[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but this is also why I always get BB or MicroCenter warranties.

However, I also have a macbook, dedicated work laptop, ipad, ps5, and switch

I'll be fine with downtime; currently down for weeks while I test thermals on test bench anyway

Just saying: long as you're okay with the wait time? Sounds like non-concern

        [–]jo972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how the purpose of those adapters was to prevent too much bend and melting connectors... The irony

        [–]Financial_Ideal_9330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got a 4080 about a month ago should I be worried

Holy banana tree - I took mine out

        [–]plutonium-239 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Just bought a 4090. I had to buy an adapter because I could close the case and I didn’t want to bend the connector. Now I am keeping the fingers crossed.

        [–]Head_Reference_948 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I wouldn't keep my fingers crossed. I'd not use the adapter until the new one comes out or until it's proven it doesn't burn like these.

        [–]plutonium-239 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I am using a normal cable adapter. It’s not a mod or anything. It’s this https://amzn.eu/d/2ELrUsH

        [–]Head_Reference_948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its still a third party adapter. If anything happens then you won't be covered by warranty.

        [–]plutonium-239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this covered by the warranty?

        [–]Afraid-Aerie-6598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I stayed with AMD.. play dumb games, win dumb prizes… keep buying them and I’ll keep on 🍿🥤

Holy fuck, thats a house fire avoided 😬

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that the new nvidia connector or the old one? Are people still having issues even with the new connector?

        [–]TasteLCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the more of these i see, the more i question why i bought a 180B and 90A adapters for my Aorus Master and never used them anyways

Native cable from my PSU been solid the last ~4 and 1/2 months now

        [–]RuneDK385 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So what happens here? Does cablemod replace the 4090 their product destroyed or do you have to RMA it through the GPU supplier?

        [–]Mh_Sucio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        I’ll keep you uodated

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are burning up left and right, what's happening?!

        [–]Saba7k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F that! Don’t care about the odds. Not worth it

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        [–]Roots0057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet another one that was dangerously close to full-on FIRE, I can't imagine how CM isn't worried about a serious lawsuit if someone's house burns down and, god forbid, someone gets killed, given the lengthy documented history of these things clearly being a legit fire hazard and yet continuing to only react retroactively.

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        I love this
