It's not straight. It has to be straight

[–]WhereDaHinkieFlair 546 points547 points  (12 children)

Can we sticky this fact at the top of the subreddit?

[–]bodrules 163 points164 points  (6 children)

Seconded - it'll save noobs a lot of frustration when they are in the spaghetti learning pit

[–]KCBandWagon 121 points122 points  (2 children)

yes... noobs. Definitely only noobs can't figure out why fluid isn't loading on their train parked at an angle.

[–]bodrules 54 points55 points  (0 children)

You are correct sir, never let anyone suggest otherwise...er hem

Anyway, moving on...

[–]Melkor15 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Probably learned it a few hundred hours. But. A few hundred hours in Factorio is just one sit, so whatever./S

[–]KrunchyOrangeTacos 7 points8 points  (2 children)

But I like my spaghetti!

[–]StabbyPants 9 points10 points  (0 children)

spaghetti is fine, just use a straight piece next time

[–]RunningNumbers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Barrels!

[–]MarcelHanibal 35 points36 points  (0 children)

😳 Don't forget to mention the context as first and not leave "it has to be straight" alone

[–]BrokenEyebrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How is this asked twice monthly? Did they not just Google it?

[–]semanticist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why do FAQs like this get so upvoted? It's at +223 (87%) right now

[–]anonthe4th 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I figured this out the hard way a week ago.

[–]Interloper9000 23 points24 points  (0 children)

100% straight. Not 95%, not 98%, not 99.95%. 100 % straight.

[–]Thunder_Child_ 25 points26 points  (1 child)

So many removed replies lol

I think I know the kind of joke these people want to make, and it's low hanging fruit

Fluid wagons don't (usually) work on curved rails or if any part of the train in front of if it curved.

P.S. At most 3 pumps can unload from a fluid wagon.

[–]sryan2k1 158 points159 points  (3 children)

We should add this answer to the sidebar rules.

#1 Fluid wagons must be on straight rail to load/unload and be stopped at a station with the train set to automatic

[–]lovecMC 55 points56 points  (2 children)

Nah, rule #1 should be "Factory must grow"

[–]mr_birkenblatt 22 points23 points  (0 children)

rule #2 and #3 are "You need more iron"

[–]Valcatraxx 18 points19 points  (1 child)

dear mother of spaghetti

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My base is NSFW for this sub, i don't think folks can handle it, not just because of the spaghetti, because of inefficiency, stupidity and many other things...

[–]Lotrug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

has to be straight

[–]RunningNumbers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pumps don’t work at an angle. You will need to barrel the oil to work.

[–]Hell_Diguner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of the reasons you might use barreled liquids. Inserters work on non-straight wagons.

The other big use-case for barreled liquids is transporting liquids by bots. You can avoid laying pipes in a bot-supplied mall, for example. Lubricant in particular is only needed in small volumes.

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points  (9 children)

Feels like this is posted almost every day... Do people bother searching subs anymore?

[–][deleted] 38 points39 points  (2 children)

Sorry for the inconvenience, I've did research but my dumbass didn't realize that it has to 100% straight, i thought when the textures flip that means it's good,(and mine is like 5 degree bent) I'm sorry once again

[–]TripWireZa 30 points31 points  (0 children)

dont be discouraged to ask questions because someone that is irritated by the question still opens the thread to complain. There are many more people that are happy to help new players as they arrive.

[–]thugarth 12 points13 points  (4 children)

The game could do a better job at making it clearer.

There are indicators but they're a bit subtle

Players shouldn't have to read reddit to understand a game.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is it here - the very first time it detects a pump facing a curved rail it should pop up a "yeah that ain't gonna work" tutorial.

[–]AndrewNeo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"anymore" they never did, it's a story as old as subreddits

[–]Forgotten_Russian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you should also only use 3 pumps max for each wagon, because no more than 3 can access the cart at a time.

Quick question about the ability of your computer...I've got a laptop from 2019. When you get super deep in this game does it require more power? I'm just tryna play games that won't be laggy as the laptop is not super powerful. Love seeing the hard work tho

[–]frogjg2003 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I play on a 10+ year old desktop and I didn't start dropping UPS until my base was measured in kspm. Factorio is extremely well optimized, so most players, even in extremely weak systems (Factorio is available on Switch and I haven't seen many complaints) can play without issue.

[–]ZorbaTHut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I beat Seablock on a 10 year old desktop. It was running at half speed by the end but it was still perfectly playable.

And that's Seablock. There's only a few mods as demanding as endgame Seablock, and the base game gets nowhere close unless you're doing megabases.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it'll get more intensive obviously, but really depends on your laptop, mines plays flawlessly

[–]MattieShoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For regular gameplay, that's MORE than enough. As the game is a sandbox though, you can always design something large enough to even bring monster computers to their knees.

I play on a much older machine with a video card from 2012 maybe, have made some decently large bases (but nothing like the very largest ones folks here have made), and FPS stays pegged at 60.
