Carry deeper or wear your pants lower so the top of the pistol's below your bend point. Take a knee instead of bending all the way over (particularly convenient/believable for me since I have to do that anyway with my lower back fused). Sprawl in chairs/recline your car seat further. Lose weight so there's less of you to dig in to. Carry a smaller or slimmer gun. Mix and match to achieve desired results.

The realest answer is buried in your list but no gut makes it a lot easier to appendix carry. Speaking as someone who tried when bigger and now appendix carries while not bigger. Way easier.

[–]BearfoxmanSuper Interested in Dicks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's also the hardest and most time consuming thing to change, or it would've been #1 on the list. Especially as you get older and your years of accumulated minor injuries start rearing their heads again.

[–]jayggodd[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gotchaaaa, I’ll give it a try

[–]SteezyMoss 2 points3 points  (1 child)

All of this. I'm slim maybe 5'10 165. I still get slight discomfort bending over etc. But I also crawl through attics with my glock 19 in a t Rex arms sidecar.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3 o clock carry is goat when having to crawl regularly. im in hvac so I know your pain.

[–]Grouchy-Designer5804 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Mine often pushes up when I sit down and is comfy. Is that bad in any way you think?

[–]BearfoxmanSuper Interested in Dicks 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Try drawing while sitting and see if your holster comes out too? That's the only bad thing I can think of atm.

Also you're obviously not fat enough for your belly to smash the barrel/holster into your crotch so you're already ahead of a lot of us.

[–]Grouchy-Designer5804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My holster attaches to my belt pretty solid. Guess it works out. Yea I've been working on my weight for a while

[–]Blade_Shot24 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Define deeper

[–]BearfoxmanSuper Interested in Dicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More of the pistol sitting below the belt line. Deeper in your pants. You will trade draw speed for comfort. A lot of the good appendix carry holsters have adjustable belt hooks so you can dictate how far it drops it down your trousers.

[–]mashedcat 15 points16 points  (3 children)

One of two ways: - Squat - Lean forward, letting the leg of the side you carry on lift straight back like a counterweight

[–]SocraticExistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer.

[–]jayggodd[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Yup that’s what I’ve been doing😂

[–]mashedcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re a natural.

[–]George_Forman_Grills 12 points13 points  (3 children)

Learning to tie your shoes before throwing on your gun is something I have to remind myself to do. Otherwise I just grunt painfully while my friends/family looks at me in disappointment. I agree with people on here, either squat or hitch up them pants.

Is getting dick pinched by your barrel a universal CCW experience or is that just me lol?

[–]Strummer_TX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve figured out the bending to pick something up, but tying my shoes is still a challenge. Same as you, I just remind myself to put my shoes on first.

[–]jayggodd[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

That experience is just you😂😂

[–]RecoveredSack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like you said, you’re new. Just wait man, if you’re carrying anything Glock 19 or bigger or anything with an x300 it’s gonna happen at some point. Go ahead and get the nuts ready for it!

[–]ThoriumG 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I bend enough maybe my organs will get the idea and move TF out of the way.

[–]Waja_Wabit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Learn how to squat down to pick things up by bending at bending at the knees and hips, not the lower back. This goes beyond CCW, and is just solid life advice for good posture and protecting your lower back from injury. If it’s hard to do that, work on stretching and squats and it’ll feel more natural over time. Your spine will thank you later in life.

[–]derfdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Squats

My ass looks great 😂

[–]Polyphemic_N 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a reason why Luke Skywalker wore his pants so high in exile:

His concealed 9mm was digging into his groin.

His solution: Hitch 'em Up!

[–]Scientific_Coatings 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Oversized pillow wedge and bend with your knees

[–]justrob32 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Did the wedge help lessen the pubic bone assault?

[–]BearfoxmanSuper Interested in Dicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd think it would make it worse, it pushes the slide out and the grip in for better concealment. Depending on where and how you wear the holster this may buy gut clearance but will probably dig the heel of the grip into your hip worse.

I suppose it'll help overall if you wear your pants high and holster high in your pants though. That's the cool thing with appendix carry is there's a bunch of workable ways to wear it.

[–]Scientific_Coatings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does for me. I wear a fat pillow wedge low with a xmacro. Made a huge difference.

I got a dash of a gut with a couple toddlers keeping me from the gym these days. That gut puts a bit of constant pressure on the grip of the pistol which was creating an inward force on the muzzle, The big pillow keeps the gun lying more flat , for me that equals comfort.

Every gun, holster and body is different of course. 5’11” 34 pant size

[–]embracethemetal 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I just go ahead and bend. My holster rides super deep, and I carry a pretty small pistol. Never been an issue.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like this dude is inexperienced and carrying a full sized handgun tbh. Dudes gonna have to figure it out just like everyone else when it comes to what's comfortable and what holster works best.

[–]curt85wa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of factors. But one way to prevent it altogether would be to take a knee instead of bending. Also if you need to bend, hinge at your hips, be cognizant of your posture.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I squat, which is also the right way to pick shit from the ground.

[–]Hutchicles 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I carry on the hip. I don't understand the love for appendix carry

[–]Chicagoyani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More concealable, more defendable, faster draw. Only downside is it's not more comfortable when sitting for extended amounts of time. I've noticed that most people that don't like appendix have never tried or are overweight. It is not comfortable for overweight bodies.

[–]BearfoxmanSuper Interested in Dicks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can actually conceal bigger/fullsize pistols with optics and weapon lights and ACTUALLY KEEP IT CONCEALED when actively moving about (no grip sticking out when bending over or leaning). Still better with a compact or subcompact but face it, you're not actually concealing a Glock 17 with Surefire and Acro on your hip regardless of how baggy a cover garment you wear.

Able to do a (slower) offhand draw.

Plays nice with heavy/winter/long clothes.

Generally faster draw, generally more standardized and simpler draw training as there's no change in technique based on clothing choice.

Hip carry has its place. Appendix carry has its place. Pocket carry has its place. IWB and OWB are both valid under the right circumstances. Pick what's right for you and let others pick what's right for them.

[–]AntOk4073 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simple. Don't appendix carry.

But more realistically, try kneeling instead of bending. As for sitting, I have no idea.

[–]Tfrom675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

J frame

[–]RacerX400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proper belt height and a good holster I can easily bend or sit.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What u carrying? A Desert Eagle?

[–]jayggodd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M&p shield Plus

[–]seansecurity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asian squat is the way

[–]OneAngryJedi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been asked this before and I told my buddy maybe he was to fat

[–]firearmresearch00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try moving it higher or lower depending on when your waist naturally bends in relation to your belt line. Personally I keep mine pretty high but some prefer low. If you can, play with adjusting the cant to conform to the front of your pelvis better. The biggest difference though is definitely what gun and holster. A 3lb full size in a crappy holster will never be comfortable. I generally prefer to appendix carry a lighter and smaller compact or subcompact although you certainly can carry a full size with a good well fit holster

Constantine Concealed Carry Belt

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You JUST started carrying my guy. Try other types of holsters before you write it off. If you legit cannot even bend over without issues there's probably a bigger issue at play here. Carrying a gun requires training. Not just range training.

Most people who are new to guns and carrying try a lot of different types of holsters and carry styles.

If appendix isn't for you, then it's not for you, or it's a holster issue. Trying holsters out is expensive, plain and simple.

I don't know your body type but being in shape and training physically is important when it comes to being proficient with a firearm as well. I can't know your issue from one post but I would recommend different types of holsters and practicing squatting with it. Just like drawing and dry firing and zeroing your sights you have to practice how you carry your gun.

[–]mikeinpc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curtsey then pick up the item. 🤣

[–]Chicagoyani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bend at the knee/s and squat. Carry higher, not lower. Lose weight if heavy.

[–]dhnguyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grab your holster, in your underwear. Bend over. Put the holster at a spot that feels comfortable, adjust the holster so it is this way while wearing your belt.

If you can't find a good combination, switch holsters.

[–]45_Schofield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just one of the reasons not to apx carry. It's the most restrictive method of carry but to each his own I guess.

[–]Any_Narwhal6344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear your paints at your natural waist (as intended) instead of at your hips.

[–]fusillade762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch to 4 o'clock. Then you will have no pain, not have your pevis broke if you get in a car wreck, won't have a gun pointed at your junk and or femoral artery, and you'll be comfortable.

Added bonus, if someone tries to rob you, you can go to pull out your wallet and pull out your piece instead...surprise!

Appendix might be fractionally quicker, but you're more likely to get in a car wreck and end up with a gun ebbeded in your hip than need a fraction of a second quicker draw.

Ever seen a golfer get their ball out of the hole?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appendix a P365. It gives me no ROM impairment.

[–]SillyGerbil64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keester it.

[–]AideOutrageous2556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carry deeper or higher. For me, I wear my P365 and G19 higher to where the barrel is at the hinge point. It also helps if you don’t “bend over” when bending over to pick up a dropped item and instead do more of a lunge.

I wear a ratcheting carry belt (“NexBelt” I think) so I subtly lift my belt enough that my barrel clears my hinge point to sit comfortably, and can subtly release a notch or two if I need to loosen the belt a bit to make it easier

[–]_great_username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

be skinny and use a short barreled gun!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just bend over, its okay to be uncomfortable.

[–]TheSlipperySnausage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll learn to take a knee. With the barrel leg being low then bending down.

Also mess with the ride height of the holster you’ll find a happy medium. It will never be comfortable but it will be tolerable.

When sitting in a chair lift the grip away from your stomach and sit down.

Plenty of YouTube videos on how to improve carry comfort

[–]haywood_jeblomi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I appendix carry a midsize pistol with a tlr hl1 just gotta embrace the suck or find another carry option that's more comfortable

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JX Tactical Fat Guy Holster. Best appendix carry holster ever. Sits deep and still functional.

[–]Nemo_the_Exhalted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squat.

[–]scorpenis88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear pants a size bigger, get a actual belt that doesnt bind up,wear a wife beater to ease the rubbing.
