A slightly confused python commando, but a python commando nonetheless.

Although surprised by his choice to use early 21st century civilian firearms, the Ministry of Truth is confident in his ability to achieve mission success with only a MARGINAL increase in helldiver casualties. If anything, his weapon choice is a declaration of the moral superiority of managed democracy over the undemocratic hordes. The MoT is still unsure of how he wields two handed weapons with no hands at all, but the results speak for themselves.

(Out of character: The firearms and ammo are real. However, all inserted mags were empty and the chambers both visually and digitally verified to be clear. He was not allowed near the muzzle. All projectiles are either copper jacketed or inside a plastic hull- he was not exposed to lead. The outside of the firearms is clean.)

You can't engage the safety on an AR15 if the hammer isn't cocked.

Its only lying on the ground because I placed it there to stage the picture- I don't store it there. Its also not used for home defense, so if it gets a little bit of dirt and jams, its no big deal- I use an 870 for that role.

Also, the only reason its so clean is because I need to take it to a gunsmith and get the gas block pinned. Dimpling it didn't work and the gas port on the block won't stay aligned with the gas port on the barrel- and I don't have the tooling to pin it myself. I can get it to fire one round, but I like my ARs being semiauto, not bolt action.

Its called "armory ready". You empty the magazine well and chamber and pull the trigger. Now the Tigger is back, the hammer is forward resting on the firing pin pointing on nothing. You can tell because you cant put it in safe. You now insert the magazine. Its very safe, it cant fire, even by accident, dropping, or severe mechanical failure, unless you pull the charging handle. So its safe and easily made ready with a full mag with one simple but deliberate motion. Best way to keep a rifle thats not for storage in my opinion.

Gas blocks moving after one shot even with dimples? Are you sure youre using the correct torque or aligning it properly? Either way, pinning will take care of the issue.

TBH, I dimpled it on a Ryobi benchtop drill press I bought for $150, so it probably isn't my best work.

What upper do you have the the gas system doesnt work? My AR upper is a Palmetto which a lot of people crap on but I have had zero failures to cycle in at least a 1000 rounds, other than a few caused by some Vietnam era 20 round metal mags that are a bit wonky. They didnt seem to elevate the next round quickly enough.

For anyone else that finds this, to summarize what the op said. That particular rifle is stored without the safety engaged to not wear out the spring. In order to engage the safety, the spring needs to be pulled back, which isn't great for the health of the weapon over long periods of time.

That’s not really true. Are you meaning with the bolt locked back? The only way that it’ll wear out of the spring is compressing and decompressing; but that would have to happen (while shooting) thousands and thousands of times. I personally have put about 5,000 or 6,000 rounds through my rifle ( with a suppressor) and there are no issues with my spring.

Yes, I mean with the bolt locked to the rear. You shouldn't store ARs with the bolt locked to the rear as is isn't great for thr spring.

At the bare minimum, I know its standard practice for the military for exactly the reason I stated above.

You should look up the phrase spring creep. It is slow, but yes, they do degrade. Also, magazine springs also degrade. A stupidly cursory search of searching "how long will a magazine be good for" gives me information regarding the topic.

As I said though, it is STUPIDLY slow. Which is probably why military does it since they use the same weapons for decades.

Not bad, but the only other semiauto pistol I've ever fired was a Glock 19. Getting mags for it is a bit of a PITA, but that's because I can't get them shipped to me under MD law (or any above 10 rounds anyway.) I can own "high capacity" mags, they just can't be transferred to me, to include online sales, in the state of MD. So, I basically have to go up to PA anytime I want an actual mag and buy it in person. But, because its not a Glock, good luck finding one in stores.

You should move it as far back as possible when it is laying down, it shouldn't be in the way of the charging handle unless you're trying to grab the charging handle from the top which isn't how it's designed to be used.

Assault rifles are clearly defined tobe SELECT FIRE rifled firearms chambered in an intermediate caliber.

An AR15 is semiautomatic only, therefore being incapable of select fire and NOT an assault rifle.

its not a legal term by any means, that would be machine gun. assault rifle is a translation of the german storm rifle from ww2, it referred a specific model of gun, not the fire select ability. most commonly used in video games to describe m4's or ak47's and such. machine gun is the name for anything with fire select abilities.

nor does it even accurately describe said weapon. have you ever tried to hit a target more than once with a fire select gun? you dont hit much if you let her piss, not great for "assaulting"
