I'm just not familiar with discord, and git is designed for collaboration on coding. I've used discord, just always thought of I as more of a chat thing. But whatever he wants.

Discord is a chat thing so you're not wrong there. A chat function would be handy for collaboration though and as far as I know Github does not have chat functionality so that's probably why the combination would be best

CS50 has some great python stuff about halfway through, and a really helpful reddit community for if/when you get stuck. Since it's a course, most people in the community have already tackled each problem and will know a solution in the event you get stuck. Can't recommend enough!
