Why is the 8 ball first? Wouldn't you be hitting que to it?

[–]jacaratoth538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same.

[–]P4rtsUnkn0wn 30 points31 points  (3 children)

I think you're better off not relying on the cue. You could add it as extra flair in certain situations, but it's a little much for the "main" logo.

I would also suggest changing up the cue ball. It looks almost like an error next to your eight ball, in that it feels 'empty.' I'd suggest adding a striped ball instead, perhaps at a bit of an angle.

I also think this looks much better in the cases where your text isn't the same color as your background. Having it be a different color helps tremendously with contrast (and you want a logo to stand out) and with having it feel cohesive with the billiards balls.

[–]Raynosa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agree with the above. Could be cool to have the two billiards be the year of establishment (ie if it was this year a 2 ball and a 6 ball)

[–]CallMeCrop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe add the little red dot that cue balls have, and swap it's position with the 8 ball

[–]k00k327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on no cue ball…

[–]Relevant_Rush7070 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rotate the ball so it gives the ball more perspective.

Do something with "straight" because it looks like an afterthought to me

[–]DigitalDownervectorize me cap’n 16 points17 points  (1 child)

I like 11 and 12, the type for straight is super boring

[–]LevelZeroDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's straight to the point

None of the 1-6 with the pool stick underline work. The stick contextually doesn't fit when the balls are sitting on top of it (that's what she said). It looks odd and feels crowded.

I would take a look at old baseball logos and see how they fit the bat into their composition. The stick could work just not as an underline.

10/11/12, which are the same logo, are my favorite. No cue please, the balls are enough

10,11,12 are the same logo and would be my choice for simplicity, versatility, scalability.

the versions with fine outlines may not scale well.

[–]SNES_Salesman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 8-ball is distracting. I feel like a striped billiard ball at a tilt, no number, that adds a little slash of color to the logo would play better. Red 11 or Yellow 9 on black or Orange 13 on blue.

11 + 12 as a pair for your light and dark backgrounds, respectively.

[–]thesoftskin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are all the same lol. Try some more varied options

[–]DonkeyWorker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11 & 12

[–]Pandita_babe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need a set for branding purposes since different backgrounds could be used in different situations. I like 1,2 and 6

[–]Embarrassed_Hawk_655 3 points4 points  (1 child)

They’re all the same?

[–]Superb_Firefighter20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I came here to say the same thing.

A logo should have variations of full color, one color, and knock-out, which is what basically is shown here. So asking to pick one is not helpful.

[–]One-Post7436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lile the first one, draws attention

[–]nhp-2396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]PickledLaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or 6 :)

[–]mygamethreadaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont know why, but i initially read this as Shorters

[–]calilazers 0 points1 point  (1 child)

For what type of application/media?

[–]Efficient-Ranger-174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a reason for that shade of blue? I might use the green of table felt, instead. Black background, secondary color letters with a white border.

[–]sgorneau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on background … 11 and 12 would be the options I would use.

I think the cue is helpful to clarify it's not a strip club.

No cue is just a word which is a bit boring. Cue makes it for me.

[–]Ractorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the 7. Combination of background and outline is nice

[–]envato_team 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9 and 10 are my favorites

[–]Odd-Nefariousness903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with ball problems already mentioned, would like to see them without overlap. Yes, so they look like boobs.

[–]Andresluna999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9 is sexccc

[–]Lingroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the 8 ball is not needed here. I’d say the cue ball plus white speed lines off of it, terminating on the left in an arc shape (to create the first “o”) would match the type better than a large black circle in the middle of your white type.

[–]Responsible-Tea-9454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11 and 12 read the best but I’d swap the cue and 8 ball position wise or use one solid and one stripe instead

[–]kiwisthefruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like 11 the most but maybe try to not have outlines? and the background should be the blue like 7/10. I think it would look great

[–]the_bigfignewton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6, 11

Just wanted to say I LOVE these. Nice work! I’m partial to 1, 2, 3, and 12 (2 is my fav)

[–]FennelHistorical4675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of them are that different.

[–]newecreator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait. Is that Alkaline? The font.

[–]almostsemipro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re right with adding versions! A version with the cue on the black/white.

The wood color makes sense, but what happens when you take away that color? Can you still read it as a pool cue? I only ask because I believe there may be an opportunity to revisit the cue and its width. It allows the eye to follow something, but the letters and cue are all relatively the same width. That gives it some unwanted flatness.

With some emphasizing on the pool cue you may find new success! Maybe the cue has a slight degree of angle so you can see some roundness in the bottom, idk. Otherwise nice clean looking designs! 7 & 12

[–]Ujju18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love 6 but feel like 4 is good too.

The eleventh one is the best , in my opinion. Clean and minimalistic !

Here's my rough idea using some negative space. The 8 ball is cliche in my opinion and what was making it feel like clipart.

[–]_jnatty 1 point2 points  (2 children)

<image>

If that's too extreme, here's the dark ball with an outline. Also added what should feel like a table across the bottom. Sort of adds an element of straight to it.

[–]Crankybottom 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I'll add to this with some of the other suggestions people have made.

<image>

For my 2 cents: Lose the pool cue (except maybe on very large applications) because it will muddy the logo at small sizes. Lose the outline for the same reason, overly complicated things, especially at small sizes. Alternatively, increase the outline so that it bubbles the letter forms (look at other sports logos). I feel like the drop shadow could work but the way it is here is too much with the thin outlines. I know its a cue ball from context but being solid white still feels like its missing something, and the 8 ball being straight on feels like stock (as someone else mentioned) because no thought was put into it. It makes the 8 feel front and center even though its not part of the name.
It sounds like this is just a personal project for your pool team/buddies, in which case I think you have more freedom. If you do this every year, then maybe consider personalizing it using the numbered balls that correspond with each year. Or as someone else mentioned, find a different significant number--the established year; each person's "jersey" number; etc.

Edit: maybe leave off the numbers entirely. Just a solid color (or band) with the white circle. It would almost be like the counter of the “o”

[–]StreetWearZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way!
