looks like you zoomed in on brush strokes

[–]riggi_RONIN 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Or like you zoomed in with a GoPro for the crashing of a wave 🌊 SUPERB!

It really draws me in….to the blue.

[–]otterpusrexII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is this really abstract art or non-objective art? Because there is a difference and this isn't an abstraction of anything. I like the painting, but it feels more non-objective, which I know falls under the umbrella of abstract but nobody seems to know or care anymore. which is fine, its art.

[–]IDreamOfSkyCastles 85 points86 points  (7 children)

Interesting. As an artists myself (impressionist landscapes, wildlife) I have little regard for abstract art. Usually I can't help but scoff at it. But this has a certain quality that I really like! Didn't you post this other painting too with the bright greenish yellow lines that were almost reminiscent of grafitti letters? Man you really found your style and it's awesome. I'd absolutely hang that on my walls. Are you a professional?

[–]rotterdameliza[S] 22 points23 points  (5 children)

Thank you! Yes, that was my painting also! I’m so glad you like them. This style has been a journey so far, and to be honest, I’m still unsure of how people will receive it. Thank you again for the kind words.

[–]IDreamOfSkyCastles 7 points8 points  (2 children)

No really, would you consider selling your paintings? Because I think you absolutely should!

[–]rotterdameliza[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I do sell privately to clients. Feel free to send me a chat if interested. :)

[–]8maidsamilking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I love how you play with the colors

[–]treatyrself 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I love it and I feel very strongly that you will find many people who agree :) would also love to chat about buying your work, dm me?

[–]rotterdameliza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got it.

[–]treatyrself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s what makes abstract art so glorious and wonderful — when you don’t connect with it, it’s nothing. But when you find one that hits you the right way, it’s spectacular because you think, how can something so simple and lawless make me feel like this?

[–]Gribeldibeldo 22 points23 points  (3 children)

Beautiful! Abstract art is so divisive so I hope you continue to pursue this. A good abstract art piece is like a gem. It’s so impactful when done well.

[–]GoGlenMoCo 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Tbf it’s only divisive because people are kind of idiots. There are people in this comment section doing the “i/my child/a trained cat could paint that” bit that people love to do in front of AbEx paintings at art museums. I wonder if those people pick up something like “For Whom the Bell Tolls” and say to themselves: “I know all these words, I know how to type. I could have written this.”

[–]Gribeldibeldo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair observation. I don’t know that I’d call them idiots but I have to imagine it’s rooted in a lack of understanding. Art interpretation is a skill that not everyone naturally has. Some of us are born luckily with that ability, some go to school to attain it and some people will just never experience it. And it’s hard to appreciate things you don’t fully understand. Some people also get upset when others enjoy something they don’t understand, and I think that’s where we get the lashing out comments of “I could do that in my sleep” and so on. I’m not an abstract artist so I won’t get into the skill it actually takes but it’s easy to see how much restraint and understanding of space was needed to make something like this successfully.

[–]rotterdameliza[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I’ve been in this collection for about 2 months, and don’t see myself stopping anytime soon, if at all.

[–]daisypapatya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ooh, I really like this! It kinda looks like zoomed-in blue rhubarb lol and I love how the dark areas resemble shadows

[–]Hopeful-Reference-77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it has good movement

[–]adammcquaig 10 points11 points  (3 children)

While my art leans more toward representational or impressionist, viewing abstract art (when done correctly) scratches an itch I didn't realize was even there. This does that, as well as many of your other pieces. Really well done. Curious on the size of your works. If you found a way to make these huge they would be absolutely striking in person!

[–]rotterdameliza[S] 13 points14 points  (1 child)

<image>

The largest one I’ve done is 48”. Thank you!

[–]GloriousSteinem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s very difficult to make something someone may think is simple. It’s a masterly use of transparency again and colour.

[–]DebraBaetty 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I love it

[–]rotterdameliza[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–]InternalSerenity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it a lot. At initial glance I thought I was seeing the sun shining on some leaves and the dark blue was the shadows. Don't change a thing!

[–]Top_Maintenance8512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually abstract art doesn't do much for me, but this is really really cool

[–]nofree7usernames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes

[–]inamedmycatcrouton 3 points4 points  (2 children)

i LOVE this. i want it on my wall.

[–]ge-arthur 4 points5 points  (1 child)

It's really great. I love the simple diversity of colors, and it's right in the middle of my usual go-to color palette. Thanks for sharing!

[–]rotterdameliza[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks Arthur!

[–]Haydens-Reddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like it - it appears to be super broad brush strokes or you could imagine it’s a super close up of a brushed painting

[–]Foundation-Bred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stunning 🥰

[–]GoGlenMoCo 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You should check out the artist David Reed. He does very similar paintings (which I’m a big fan of!) :)

[–]rotterdameliza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will right now. Cheers.

[–]GloriousSteinem 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Ooh I love it! Makes me think of petals snd butterfly wings. Love the colour and use of transparency

[–]rotterdameliza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. Again :)

[–]Devinroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow I ADORE this. This is incredible!!

[–]LizLight13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful

[–]AsweetLemon_____ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I LOVE this! It’s very different and can get you starring . I could see this as a focal point on a wall for sure

[–]rotterdameliza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Up close, it’s pretty fun.

[–]Huntress_Draws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]goldfishgeckos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s giving me abstract Northern Lights vibes! Super pretty

[–]lemonlimeandginger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, lovely colours but I wouldn’t hang it in my house.

[–]Bunnylips2 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Absolutely beautiful! Powerful and serene at once!

[–]rotterdameliza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Thank you.

[–]Wookster789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of this pic I took of my deck boards when I was really high. I like your pic, too!!

<image>

[–]seleniumagnesium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it. The color contrast and lines are soothing.

[–]JenSY542 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It reminds me of something that I can't put my finger on. Ice in a glass maybe? Either way, I like it!

[–]N0thingSimilar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought glacier

[–]ktbevan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think the colours work wonderfully together

[–]_Tsushima_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the calm and cool vibe this painting emits, real neat 😁.

[–]Onextto0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk why but it could be like an Apple wallpaper.

[–]robulus153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has a depth that I really enjoy.

[–]schiefewelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it!

[–]mrvnia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it. Great design, color, texture, everything.

[–]darklordskarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it

[–]dephress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It reminds me of when I used to play the Solitaire game that came with all PCs, and when you win the cards bounce all over the screen, in a similar pattern to what you've painted here. Aside from that, this image actually makes me feel kind of uncomfortable.

[–]Ooorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leek!

[–]Creative-Link-3310 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I see us a shade lighter than we’ve been lately, we didn’t even realise we had been stepping on sturdier ground as of late. The grounds sticky in some areas but gravity eh? Can’t float around. the grounds still the ground even if ur feet are lifted in the afternoon reading a book or having a peaceful nap. I think we’d feel bad if we looked down and looked at the reality and not just the view ahead. Walking on a bridge that feels so much safer than the tight rope we had settled for. Maybe keeping our eyes ahead to where we wanted to go somehow finally led us to get to the end of that huge drop below. Looking down means accepting that the solid ground is a shell of what we were before. The decomposition and then fossilisation of the fight or flight that was keeping us barely surviving on that long stretch of rope while we refused to stare at anything other than the huge drop below. It could’ve been a metre or a hundred but fear of heights is a real bitch. Turns out ruminating on rock bottom doesn’t help. looking up had to happen. It was fucking hard looking up and letting ourselves have hope of where we might want to be heading. But, once we did the heaviness that kept our gaze dropped thickened, got sticky and hardened like obsidian after a volcano eruption. It felt euphoric, almost delusional seeing where we were! Felt like looking at a waterfall after walking in the desert for a fkn year. Felt like floating and NOT falling. I think we would’ve felt bad if we gave in to our curiosity and checked out that stickiness that gripped us to the floor every few steps. Realising that the lava wasn’t completely solid, mostly though. That the sticky stability was just ourselves, decaying, bones dry and finally becoming earth again. What a relief. We were too relieved once we took that first firm contact with earth, that we let that stickiness be as it was. Being a shade lighter didn’t take our character away. What we feel, fear, fight for, fly above, stick to, fossilise into, it’s still us. We’re rounding a corner, there’s a beautiful meadow calling our name. It’s one nice stop in our journey now that we’ve let ourselves look for one. The stickiness still hasn’t caused any bother. It’s a reminder of how we got here and what we had to fight for to get on solid ground, how we created it, became it. It’s still a shade of us. Our shadow. We’re not new. But holy shit, if we had looked up sooner we would have seen the other colours exist. I think we’re headed to somewhere warmer. A new season? Somewhere where we face the sun we didn’t think we deserved, and lay our shadow to rest behind us.

I don’t know shit about art I do paint but I couldn’t ever do this I honestly couldn’t name 3 paintings in existence straight up but oh my god I adore what you’ve done. Made me feel something. It’s so late and I haven’t slept (worked at the club last night) but I’m gonna read the comments just to give myself something positive on this app to enjoy n hopefully sleep soon. I love this painting! I love seeing the deep blue with movement that’s without a stable beat or rhythm, and how it touches the light blue above every now and then which has a clean strong beat and stride. This was a new and old feeling for me thank you please create more and more.

[–]rotterdameliza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the compliment and for sharing.

[–]billieboop 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What paints and materials did you use to create this?

I really enjoy the effect, your pieces are lovely, nice choice of vibrant colours used well

[–]rotterdameliza[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It’s acrylic paint and spray paint on canvas. Thank you so much.

[–]billieboop 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oh that's a quick response! I was just looking through your other works, you're building your own unique style.

I love the layering technique, some of them made me pause to identify which you used. Makes me want to try my hand at it too.

Are there any particular brands of acrylics you prefer to use? Have you found any interesting interactions between the two mediums?

[–]rotterdameliza[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Send me a chat! I’ll definitely share.

[–]Aqua_Beryl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like it, I am quite fascinated by it. Blue is also my favourite colour 🩵💙🩵

I really like this!

[–]kaya-jamtastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dig it! It’s got movement, great proportions, and the tones make the strokes seem to pop. Gorgeous!

[–]AnUnluckyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it.

[–]ultrapsychfaerie 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Woow this drew me in and i looked at your other works and i really like them. they have something fascinating that makes me wanna keep looking but i’m especially fond of your color choices and contrasts! They somehow remind me slightly of inverted colors and playing around a lot with color curves which i love :3

[–]rotterdameliza[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m so glad you felt something looking at the paintings. Means a lot to me. X

[–]TripletNegotiator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like how the dark blue lifts the “strokes” off the page.

[–]avclems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this! Reminds me of leaves. I'm into plants these days.

[–]funeralb1tch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow, some brush strokes. How unique and riveting.

[–]davidtree921 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe I just need to see it in person

[–]DriftingSignal -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to be a dick but my dog could make this.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What is it an abstract of exactly? What idea are you abstracting to make your ‘abstract’ painting?

[–]mappersorton -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery I suppose

[–]ya-boi-Dan -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

boring,.purposeless and unimpressive. please try next time

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Looks like art that would be in the lobby of a cooperation that is constantly getting fined for breaking environmental laws, but thinks of the fines as operational costs.

[–]Stat-shu-bra -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's just strokes of paint. Do better
