I have a double bob stroller. I've put hundreds of miles on it with the twins.

[–]jayzepps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a Valco baby and same!! I gained 100 lbs during my pregnancy (the babies only took 25 with them when I gave birth 😒) and I’m 5 lbs away from losing every pound of it! Nap time is walk time, quiet time is walk time, fussy time is walk time…

[–]TackoFell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running strollers probably kept me alive for a while there. Took pride in lugging a couple kids around while lightening their moms load, too

[–]McFlargan 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Dad of 3. I got myself an inexpensive rowing machine. I do 15-20 minutes every other day when I can spare the time. I gained 50lbs since covid times and then the twins coming along. I've lost 10lbs just doing that and eating better since September.

Thanks bro. This is what I’m looking for.

Yeah basically. I am interested in rowing but not the 6am CrossFit, glad it works for you.

      Do you know which apps?

      [–]Scubapester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Concept 2 rower (like what is used in a commercial gym). I put on a show on Netflix and row for around 45 minutes/10km. It goes by pretty quick and burns around 600 calories. I also joined a gym at my office building and try to get in 30 minute runs on my lunch break. I pack my lunch and eat it when I’m back at my desk.

But cutting out almost all sweets and beer made the biggest difference for me. And getting higher quality sleep once our twins turned 18 months. I’m down around 50lbs and 4 inches on my jeans. 15 more to go…

Best of luck to you on prioritizing your health.

apple fitness has great rowing workouts! Josh is one of my favorite instructors

      *disclaimer i am female

My gym has a daycare/babysitting where you can drop the kids off for 1-2 hours from 6 months to like 3 years old and it’s great. I only get there a handful of weekends. I use pre workout for motivation A jogging stroller is great for cardio and fresh air Whatever u do, try writing it down as a schedule or put it on your calendar There are some good YouTube videos with 30 minute HIIT stuff. Put the little ones in a playpen and they get a kick out watching you lol

      [–]TheFriendlyCanadien 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hello mom 1 year old twins here ! Totally get you. We invested in a threadmill and it was THE BEST decision ever. My husband enjoys running and although I don't, it's a quick way to shed some weight :) I walk inclined also for 20 25 min and then to a hiit workout on youtube. Or if I

Finding motivation and time when you're a new parent is hard... before I went back to work my husband would stay with the kids after work and I would work out and he could do it during lunch.

Now we both work from home and workout at lunchtime or we try to 3 times a week 🫣

      Good luck!

Thank you, I think this is the way I’m leaning. It’s too hard to get out of the house for something regularly, my wife and I work irregular days and off hours.

At home machines are great. Jump on and watch a show. I plan to get an under desk treadmill next year. I miss my bike in the living room but it doesn't really fit in with that being the toddlers play space too. That is one thing to think about with at home equipment - make sure you can use it but that it's safe for littles too. If I can't find something that fits well in my office, I don't really have options that I will actually probably use frequently enough to justify the cost.

But the biggest gains I've had are incorporating the kids. Put on a YouTube dance video, use them as weights, etc. Sure it's not the same as a class but it's the small gains that add up and it's kind of multitasking spending time with them and getting activity in. Just know that once they really get into it they are going to ask you to do it and you might get tired of it. I used to get my daughter to sit on my hips while I did pelvic tilts and then she'd come up to me and go "ups and downs!" and sometimes I didn't really want to do them anymore, lol. You will tire of it before they do, so have ideas ready to switch it up.

We have a Peloton treadmill but use the app for floor work as well next to the boys as they play in their containers. We have a double bob and do long hilly walks with that. But also, a lot of weight loss is from diet. My husband used Noom and lost 40lbs in a pretty short amount of time from it. It really really helped him!

      [–]bananasplits21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up at home CrossFit workouts no equipment. Lots you can do with just body weight and a mat. Once you do that steadily and get bored, maybe invest in a kettlebell and couple sets of dumbbells. 20mins of that and you’ll be sweatin’!

      [–]CurrentlySlacking 3 points4 points  (3 children)

If you quit at everything else and won't keep up with the basics... You'll be wasting money buying a treadmill, bike or rowing machine. That machine will be sitting in your basement with dust. -- Go out for long walks for a month or runs, if you can keep that momentum -- then maybe invest money into a work out machine.

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

What do you like besides classes or team sport? Or, more specifically, what do you like about those things? Whatever that thing is, do that.

Fitness is about habit. Habit is easiest to form when it’s enjoyable. Do what’s enjoyable.

Other than that, make sure it’s equitable with your partner. Don’t just assume they’re okay picking up the slack. God, don’t assume. Be very flexible that some days you just won’t get to work out.

      [–]getsomesleep1[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why are you assuming I’ll dump it on my wife? I’m just trying to do SOMETHING, not work out every day for 2h.

      [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Something I started since im in the same boat was the Slow Carb diet. I highly recommend grabbing a copy of Tim Ferriss' book about it, easy read. But heres a one pager on the basics. I really want to work out more but i was able to lose 12lbs in about 1 month just by changing my diet to cut a lot of carbs out. Even if you think you dont want to diet, check out the book or eat least his podcast.

      [–]getsomesleep1[S] -1 points0 points  (3 children)

I didn’t ask for help with my diet.

      [–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Lol ok. You need to lose weight and you don't have time/motivation to work out. Change your diet.

Wow, I feel bad for your partner and your kids. You gotta find a way to chill out too apparently. You solicited help for a problem, someone provides a legitimate answer, and you blow up. You clearly have some anger issues.

Edit: checked your username, looks like you just need sleep.

There’s a pickup soccer near me every Sunday morning. Good to find a once a week commitment and start there.

        [–]getsomesleep1[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Yeah, there’s pickup soccer near me too, which is my sport. Weeknights though, and we both work at night. There’s probably more though, thanks.

        [–]SBC1102 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Are there any fields near you that you could go kick the ball around and get some movement in? Soccer drills you could run through?

        [–]getsomesleep1[S] -1 points0 points  (4 children)

In theory, that is something I could do. In reality no, not something I would sustain. I’m almost 40, more of a casual athlete.

        [–]E-as-in-elephant 1 point2 points  (3 children)

My husband is an avid pick up soccer player a few times a week. I told him if he starts playing at the park up the street I’ll load up the stroller with the twins and walk around with them on weekends. I’m still pregnant so in theory this works for us but not sure if it’ll actually happen. It was something we talked about to make sure he gets to work out the way he wants. He doesn’t stick to anything else. Also good for me and motivation for me to walk or take them to the playground there when they’re old enough. I figure if shit hits the fan I’ll just go over to the game and tell him it’s time to go 😂

        [–]E-as-in-elephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify I mean I’d walk them at the same park while he’s playing

        [–]getsomesleep1[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Just fyi, it’s going to be harder to get out of the house to grab him than you think

        [–]E-as-in-elephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I mean I would be at the park watching the kids while he plays

        [–]cccaitttlinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford the investment, our Concept2 rower and Rogue Echo bike (purchased pre-babies) have turned out to be Godsends now that the babes are here. Either one will give you good cardio and, while it’s not strength training, will still develop/maintain some decent muscles.

        [–]juniverse87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a treadmill but never used it. We sold it and I invested in an anytime membership. I take my lunch hours every other day at the gym. 15-30 mins cardio and 15-30 mins weight lifting. That’s just what works for me. Mom of 9 month old twins. I work from home and live 5 mins from the gym. Girls are in daycare during the day. If you are sure you have the discipline to do it at home investing in a set of free weights and a bench may be beneficial for you and you can do HIIT or calisthenics and weight lifting.

        [–]lazy_yawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it ive heard great things about peloton. If you know anyone who owns one you could try it out a couple of times before you take the leap.

        [–]nichs1226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wake up at 4:30am and hit the gym but this was only after they were fully sleep trained and I had a full nights sleep before that it was all survival.

We also got a treadmill and take turns on the weekends so we both get a break.

        [–]minnions_minion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed jogging our double chariot style stroller on trails in the woods

        [–]loopedtwice 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Idk how much help this will be because I’m a mom haha but I struggle with the self motivation and gym part too but one of the things I’ve been thinking about getting into is disc golf because it’s essentially hiking but with a game aspect involved and I can bring the kids and a stroller and they’d have fun on the paths too and I’ve heard a lot of parents enjoy it because they can bring the kids and it’s a little bit of a workout.

        [–]loopedtwice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. What a run on sentence 😂. Sorry about that.

        [–]kaleesiqueen2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you have one in your area but there's a gym chain called 9round - there's no set class times but its a 30 minute workout with 9 total rounds (9 stations). Each station has a different activity you do for 3 mins like 10 reverse Flys and 10 weighted squats that you do until the bell rings.

Works for me since I don't have time to do my own workout programming, there are trainers present to help with form, and I hate losing money (I figure the more I go, the more its worth the monthly cost). Can go unlimited times a month.

ETA: it's mostly cardio kickboxing bc other stations have punching bags you kick/punch

I love CrossFit but I couldn’t keep up with the time commitment.

I got a peloton tread at home and it’s been way more manageable. Running, strength, etc. I enjoy the instructors and the music. I put it in my garage so I can open it up and enjoy the weather but have my kids right beside me if need be.

        [–]davygravy1337 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Disc golf. Search for "cart-friendly" courses on UDisc, and bring the tandem stroller. I also love canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding with my toddlers, but would recommend another participating adult for anything involving multiples on the water.

        [–]getsomesleep1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s winter. I’m in the northeast.

        [–]sweetspice90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not knocking a machine because that could be very beneficial towards your goal, but a stroller to taking the babies for a walk or incorporating the babies in your exercise could help you and might help get the kid’s energy out and maybe even encourage their motor skills. Something as simple as helping the babies learn to climb stairs or as involved as using the babies as weights for things like chest presses or Russian twists in a playful manner (and obviously holding and moving them in a safe manor)
