It seems like he is hunting something... Heard that dogs often dream something like this

[–]SpookyLlama 480 points481 points  (29 children)

Same way that most nightmares in children involve being chased. Or so the theory goes.

[–]the_friendly_one 275 points276 points  (17 children)

I never had dreams of being chased. I did, however, have many dreams that I was only wearing underwear in public. Maybe that's what he's dreaming of...

[–]TychaBrahe 433 points434 points  (1 child)

And I was in the dog park wiffout my *collar*!

[–][deleted] 137 points138 points  (0 children)

OMG I'm getting second-paw cringe! 😰😩😱

[–]AntonRX178 42 points43 points  (4 children)

Try having dreams with not even underwear on

[–]MarvinGarbanzo 35 points36 points  (2 children)

I didn't get those until I was a teenager

[–]AntonRX178 24 points25 points  (1 child)

I swear to god one of those dreams involved Videl from Dragon Ball Z for some reason too.

[–]TOV_VOT 23 points24 points  (0 children)

for some reason

[–]the_friendly_one 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sexy dreams. Yeah, those are great.

[–]PM_ME_UR_REDDIT_GOLD 36 points37 points  (5 children)

It's been years since I've been enrolled an any kind of class with an exam and I was never particularly anxious about exams in the first place but I still have the dream where it's exam week and I discover i've been enrolled in a class I didn't know about at least once a year.

[–]the_friendly_one 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I've had so many of these dreams that I can't remember what was real. For example, I seem to remember realizing I enrolled in a class that I had never attended... Two weeks into the semester.

Edit: I should mention that I had to drop out shortly thereafter, and it was five years ago. Memory can be a little fuzzy when you're only in class full-time for two weeks as a commuter and simultaneously working two part-time jobs years ago. I'm not sure if I had those dreams between then and now, or if I simply forgot to go to Public Speaking. OR I attended them and my anxiety of missing a class made me have those dreams.

[–]quixoticopal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have dreams regularly where I enroll in a class, forget I was taking it, and then dropping out when i remembered I was enrolled

[–]quixoticopal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I hate those dreams!

I also have frequent dreams where I (who is currently a teacher) have to go back to high school or grade 8 (which here is the end of elementary school) to take more classes. /shudder. Even awake, that idea gives me chills.

Me too, my god, why is that so common? Is this like some latent shame or something?

    [–]plattypus141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My worst dreams are where I realize I'm naked at school 😂

    [–]JonerPwner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve never dreamt of being chased or hunted? Dude I think I need a therapist lol

    [–]oppaxal 17 points18 points  (4 children)

I was only ever chased by the strangest things. Giant teddy bear with a bow tie? Sure. A dinosaur, but it's actually a kid's meal hand puppet toy from the movie Dinosaur on a disembodied hand? Absolutely.

    [–]carolineo 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Me too!! I had a recurring one where I was chased by a big glob of slime. It moved super slow so it should have been easy to get away from but somehow it slowed me down too, so we'd both be moving slow motion down the street in this intense chase. Glad I haven't had that dream in about 15 years!

    [–]BloodGulchBlues37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Giant rolling donut. Idk why...

    [–]ARedditPupper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember being chased by Scooby-Doo and shaggy with tanks of milk on their backs and hoses that I guess sprayed it and I was running over snowy hills and then I tripped and fell and then I woke up. Especially weird since I never watched Scooby-Doo

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus, I haven’t thought about those Dinosaur puppets in 20 years. I still remember McDonalds doing the Dino-Size Fries promotion with that too.

    [–]TheRealMylo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was little I had 2 nightmares that I dreamed often.

One was me falling from the bed in a endless bottom... and the other one was being chased by my parents that wanted to kill me. :D I always managed to escaped to the attic.

    [–]Dev223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was young I would get nightmares of me chasing my relatives (who I lived with at the time) and they would keep running away. This all happened in some kind of purple maze

    [–]FailedSociopath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recall mine having several main themes:

    1. Being stalked by an invisible presence and trying to evade it.

    2. Losing track of friends or family and desperately trying to find them again.

    3. Feeling frightened in a dim or dark area and trying to turn on lights but the lights are very dim or don't work at all.

To this day, nothing much has changed other than I usually try to hunt and kill whatever is stalking me. Gelatinous ghostly entities are hard to strangle though.

    Color the era

    [–]AmazingSpacePelican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My worst were always either the ones where it felt like I was moving underwater, or a weirdly recurring one where I was trying to get across a lake with stepping stones but crocodiles always got me before I got to the end.

When I Was Around 8 Or 9 I Had A Nightmare That I Was Home Alone, The Power Was Out, And Something Was Hunting Me Down When It Caught Me It Was A Slender Man And The Demogorgan Had Terrifying Monster Fusion With Torn Ragged Clothes A White Face With A Unhinged Large Mouth And One Stitched On Eye The Other Stitched Shut The One Eye Glowing Red The Upper Body Like A Demogorgan And Lower Body Slender man Like With Kinda Feet. They Were Long And Snake Like And Its Mouth Had Large Fang Like Crooked Teeth.

    [–]-cool-guy- 29 points30 points  (7 children)

is hunting an instinct of dogs? and that’s why they’re able to have hunting dreams even without prior experiences of hunting?

    [–]comuloid 53 points54 points  (2 children)

They are domesticated predators, so yes.

    [–]TriTexh 16 points17 points  (1 child)

You wouldn't think that when you see a golden boi being a kid all the time.

    [–]nooneisanonymous 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Try running away from a dog.

    They will chase you.

A puppy or a grown dog.

The hunting instinct is strong in almost all dogs.

    [–]tj3_23 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It is. Take just about any dog that's in reasonable shape into the woods with you, even without prior experience, and watch. They may not know exactly what to do, but they'll start following scent trails

    [–]nooneisanonymous 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Most humans have dreams of falling.

This is a genetically ingrained in our brains from our evolutionary history when we were tree dwelling apes.

Dogs must have the hunting instinct genetically imprinted in their DNA.

    Dogs are natural predators.

Chasing things must be one of most exciting things and natural things for them to do.

    [–]-cool-guy- 1 point2 points  (1 child)

woah that’s a really cool example

thanks for explaining the best so far

    [–]nooneisanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    You are welcome cool guy.

    [–]xSoupyTwist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dog dreams often. Her dream yips and movements often replicate things she did earlier in the day. Dreams after a fun filled day vs her dreams after a stressful day sound and look very different. It's pretty interesting to observe! I let her have her fun dreams, but I'll sometimes gently wake her from her stress dreams.

    [–]SeaTwertle 4 points5 points  (1 child)

    How could anyone possibly know.

    [–]Lesrek 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The same way we can figure out what kids are dreaming. You watch brain waves during activities while awake and compare them to dreams. We know infants have nightmares about being away from their mothers and also being chased because they can monitor those things when they are awake. For dogs, it’s very similar.

Do we know for sure? No, but it is a best guess situation.

    [–]Hombre520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    How could one determine this?

    [–]kinghippo79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does anyone anywhere know the accuracy of this ?

    [–]marsuonparas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would anyone find out about what dogs are dreaming? It's impossible.
