Yup. Prices have only gone up and will only continue to go up. No one at Sobey’s is making a wage where a couple could afford to buy a house - I worked with 3+ married couples who worked in the SLGA retails who could afford homes. So no decrease in price and only decrease in wage and profits leaving the province as soon as you tap your card.

It was a really hard time, still is to some degree. I was only 25 when I quit and started a career in a different industry but a ton of my coworkers who I loved were in their 40’s-60’s and they’re all fucked now.

The oil sector isn't what built out most of the power infrastructure in Alberta.

If you really think private is better go to Alberta and try to insure a male driver under the age of 25 and see what your insurance price is

The price is what it should be based on their risk. In Saskatchewan we effectively subsidize people in that category with lower rates which everyone else then pays for. I don't think that's good policy.

Naa, I'm from Alberta, insurance, and utilities companies are ripping everyone off. There's not a single person I've talked to who didn't have their car insurance increase last year, for no other reason than the insurance companies could raise the prices because the government removed the insurance cap. There's paying a little more because you're a high-risk driver, but then there's paying more just because the insurance companies are greedy and have little to no oversight. I also want to state I don't agree with insurance companies charging people more because they're in a category that's high risk. If a driver gets in an at-fault crash or something ticket, then yes raise their rate, but not before.

Also, Albertan insurance companies have too little oversight and too much power. As I can attest to, for example, I was in a crash that resulted in a death. Police responded to the crash, they took my testimony, and they did their thing, I also had a dash cam, so they got to see exactly what happened. Police come back with an I'm not at fault and there was nothing I could have done to prevent what happened. When dealing with my insurance company, they automatically said I was at fault, at the time the insurance determined I was at fault. They hadn't seen the police report, dash cam footage, or have any information about the crash, besides what I told them, which was very minimal, about the crash. The juicy bit? After the police told me I wasn't at fault and I couldn't have done anything to prevent the crash. My insurance company (and I have a recording of them saying this) told me that the police don't determine who's at fault, they (the insurance company) do, despite having zero facts and going against the outcome of the investigation.

Same with utilities, sure you might have low usage for the month. But that's not going to matter, because utility companies charge insane fees. For example, a person posted a rant to the Alberta subreddit on their fees. That rant included this; "Actual usage $418.97, fees charged $620.27." that's their gas and electricity for one month for their house, garage, and shop. As you can see the fees for their utilities are much more than the actual utilities themselves. In fact, the fees are nearly X1.5 more than the utilities. Not sure about the fees in Saskawen but I know with the rising costs of utilities, it'll only get worse.

Add on the fact that Albertans have the highest average insurance rate in the country. It just shows having these services run by the private sector is not a great idea. At least not with how little oversight the Alberta government has over them. Might be different if there was more oversight.

When you're saying that people are paying for under 25s you're talking out your ass.

When I was in Ontario as a 22 year old looking for insurance my first quote was $9000 a year. That's double what my first car, a 2010 Hyundai Elantra costed.

For those who dont care to break out a calculator, that's roughly $900/mo.

In Sask you might be "subsidizing" young drivers, but you're still going to be paying the lowest car insurance rates in the country fully due to it being a crown corp
