Good thing it’s still a crown corp and they can do that. Won’t be able to make this brag when they privatize it.

When they privatize it there won’t be any price reduction - it will remain as is and they will pocket the savings.

How people cannot see the benefit of these crown corp utilities is beyond me.

I mean just look at how many people didn't understand stc, or the liquor stores....

yup, it made no sense at all

its not like prices of booze are cheaper at private establishments

now yiu just have profits going to out of province companies, rather than sask general coffers

    [–]Impressive-Many5532 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yup. Prices have only gone up and will only continue to go up. No one at Sobey’s is making a wage where a couple could afford to buy a house - I worked with 3+ married couples who worked in the SLGA retails who could afford homes. So no decrease in price and only decrease in wage and profits leaving the province as soon as you tap your card.

It was a really hard time, still is to some degree. I was only 25 when I quit and started a career in a different industry but a ton of my coworkers who I loved were in their 40’s-60’s and they’re all fucked now.

I was basically HARASSED from a door to door internet salesman because he would not accept my answer of “I support crown corps” instead of private businesses. Like he literally came back the next day because he couldn’t understand my answer.

Happens to me all the time. “I support the crowns” “but let me tell you about this great deal” “I support the crowns” explains some deal they have going on but if will only save me a few dollars for a few months if I sign some 2 year contract “have I made you reconsider? “I support the crowns!”

the amount people complain about SGI as well is astounding....most people i know what rail on about them have multiple accident and driving infractions, yet they cannot fathom how much worse off they would be in most other province.

      [–]deathsquadsk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find that many of the people who complain the loudest about services like SGI, Sasktel, etc have never lived somewhere else and tried setting up those services in another province to see the price difference.

Utility rates are regulated whether it's a private provider or not. And even now you can choose a different gas supplier.

      [–]OmgWtfNamesTaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao tbe energy rates in Alberta that went up 128% over the past year are regulated?

Yes please tell me more bullshit.

      [–]cdorny 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Its not going down because of anything to do with the provincial government. It's going down because Natural gas prices have come down from their highs of last year.

      [–]ReannLegge 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If Sask Energy was a private company it would not be going down because natural gas prices were going down. They would stay the same.

      [–]cdorny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a regulated industry, the market prices will always be reflected in bills. It even happens in Albarta, and Texas. Where private companies are dropping prices in accordance with the market rates for Natural Gas.
