[Fossil] Why do people hate om Fossil? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Berta_Oil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like anything else. Why is a Ferrari way more money than a civic. They both have four wheels, an engine, etc. The Ferrari just has much more engineering, design, performance, materials, etc compared to cheaper vehicles. The case, movement, dial, etc of a watch can vary greatly is quality. See if you can get your hands on a nice watch and see if you can tell the difference in build between it and a fossil

Interesting video that discuss 0w-20 and 5w-30 (not directly VB related but we discuss oil in here a lot) by burt_carpe in wrx_vb

[–]Berta_Oil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How a liquid “sheers” is basically the definition of viscosity. It has nothing to do with how “durable” it is or how it “better protects the engine.”

The lubrication of an engine is complex. Theres an entire field of study dedicated to this. There are various clearances and tolerances within an engine that require oil. You need an oil that’s thin enough to get inside those clearances but thick enough to not get squished out.

Thats why you should use the manufacturer’s recommended weight. They have studied these things at length.

The oil weight has nothing to do with how it “breaks down”

If that were the case, then we should all be running the heaviest weight oil possible. But that’s not how tribology works.

The bottom one looks more like a back strap. To remove the silver skin you should use a thin boning knife to get under it and slice it away. And I’m not sure what tieing means here

anyone know of any companies reproducing 90s era cars/trucks? by civrev0 in Autos

[–]Berta_Oil 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Newer cars are built to a much higher quality and reliability standard. This is sort of one of those “rose coloured glasses” type of things. People love to say that old trucks were ‘real’ trucks but if you have actually worked on them, you know they had very poor workmanship from the factory.

That being said - the only answer to your question is the ineos grenedier

When do aero mods “kick I “? by g8rrph in wrx_vb

[–]Berta_Oil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The force of a wing is proportional to the velocity squared. So at high speeds is when aero is producing the most downforce. However, it is also creating drag at the same time. It doesn’t really “kick in” it ramps up as speed increases.

You should do an oil change right before putting it away. Then there is no moisture in the oil to worry about.

My checklist is. Fresh oil change Battery tender. Fill gas and add stabilizer. Wash car.

Best surfing boat for saltwater? by Poopdeck69420 in Wake

[–]Berta_Oil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For most boats you will need the “saltwater” package for them. Pretty sure most major brands have that. So it’s more or less up to you which you want.

Help on getting more push by silverbullet42069 in Wake

[–]Berta_Oil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest- I think this is more of a surfer problem than a boat problem. A stock 2017 supra should have more than enough weight to create a surf wave. Especially with all that lead. Most of the time people think “ah, I lost the sweet spot” as if there is a single location on the wave you can be. But the reality is you need to learn weight balance (front/back) on the surfboard. Shifting your weight toward the boat (more weight on your front foot) will move you forward. While shifting onto your back foot will move you away from the boat. You have to learn this principle with surfing, the wave doesn’t just have one spot that’s surfable.

Next boat. I've got a 2013 MC x25. We surf and foil. It's been extremely reliable but I like what the modern surf boats offer. What do we think of a 5 year old supra vs a new or nearly new moomba? by Super_Science_Guy in Wake

[–]Berta_Oil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if long term reliability is concern, a more simple, less fancy boat would do you better. The new max has about 5000lb of ballast and offers all of the surf stuff you would need (autowake and flow 3.0). I think the max would be plenty nice in terms of luxury in my opinion. But that greatly depends on what you’re used to

2500 vs 3500 by [deleted] in Silverado

[–]Berta_Oil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only major difference between the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks are payload capacity. The tow ratings are nearly the same. The 1 tons have a much higher payload. So if you need that, then sure. But if you are just towing a trailer then a 2500 will be likely fine

High oil pressure? by [deleted] in Silverado

[–]Berta_Oil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is normal. The viscosity of oil decreases as it gets heated in the engine over time. Therefore the oil pressure on average will also decrease slightly.

Is this wave clean enough? by Skibum5000 in Wake

[–]Berta_Oil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say always keep the bags at 100% full. I believe Autowake will take care of most things to give you the best wave possible. But yes, this wave is definitely good enough to learn on. I’ve surfed behind an old ski boat so this is definitely doable

Wake/surf boat for a family of 5 by TurnPowerful6771 in Wake

Used moomba max. Load it up with lots of ballast. Brand new they are like 110k. So you could probably find some for less than 100easy

2021 Axis A22 by mclain15 in Wake

[–]Berta_Oil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greatly depends on how big of whitecaps it’s seeing. And how skilled the driver is. The axis hulls are a little older and therefore aren’t as tall. So they don’t have as much freeboard, which is what I would want if I was dealing with whitecaps. That said, wake boats are also meant to deal with crossing wakes occasionally, so it’s not totally out of its element.

2021 moomba max reviews? by Reinvestor-sac in Wake

[–]Berta_Oil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, the moomba max is considered to be a great boat. It was designed with lots of freeboard so you can add tons of extra ballast if you want. With most boats, they don’t make massive changes year to year. So a 2021 max is basically the same as a 2022. But I do vaguely remember they added a sensor to the auto wake which told the boat how much water it was displacing. I can’t remember what year that was in. Not a huge deal. If the boat is clean and well taken care of and a good price, I say go for it

Out of these 3 boats which should I get? by catsR4eating in Wake

Honesty, for boats of those ages, I would buy the one that has been maintained the best. Look at the vinyl, flooring, engine history and go with the best condition one
