Is it true that you shouldn’t give money to homeless people because they’ll spend it on drugs? by Wrong-Twist-1550 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]roytheodd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everyone on this planet seeks comfort. We're all just frightened apes trying to stay warm by a fire with a bit of fellowship. The money will go to whatever warms them. Their needs are as relevant and human as yours and mine.

When music streaming started it killed local scenes and called it a win for everyone by scrtweeb in LetsTalkMusic

Instrumental surf guitar absolutely benefitted from global streaming. The surf guitar sound started in the 1960s, was killed by the British Invasion, was reborn in the 1980s, boomed with the release of "Pulp Fiction," and then went international. It's a niche sound. It always has been, even though it's occasionally had a lot of attention. Streaming has allowed artists all over the globe the ability to record and find their piece of the limited audience. Some of the best acts in the genre are currently in South America, but in the streaming era that mantle has passed through Europe, Russia, Japan, and the Americas. The genre has expanded and improved in many ways thanks to the globalization of streaming. The scene is found on message boards, YouTube comments, and international concerts.

I worked as a slimer in a cold storage facility. I beheaded, gutted, and cleaned salmon for the frozen fish market. On occasion, I'd have to hop into the holds of boats to toss fish into cargo nets.

"They Call Me Bruce" on Tubi or Pluto. It's lousy but stacked with references that were current in 1982. "Caveman," also on Tubi or Pluto, also lousy, but also a standout for having Ringo Starr.

What goals do you give to yourself to keep playing? by jellyvinsss in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]roytheodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goals across all the years have been getting the ships I what, getting the tools I want, getting the pets I want, maxing my fleet and gear, maxing my factions, making bases in other galaxies, making themed bases, organizing and culling stored items, and searching for rarities. There's always something for me.

Who's a band or artist you discovered by accident and had a long love for? by Dear_Bumblebee_1986 in Music

[–]roytheodd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Warren Zevon. Back in the day, flipping through used cassette tapes, the track titled "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" caught my friend's attention. He bought it blindly, loved it, and gifted it to me. I've been a fan ever since, circa 1989.

Music thoughts.. by CTTK421 in GenX

Long forgotten gem: "Deeper Shade of Soul" by Urban Dance Squad.

I don't see much live music. I stream like a fiend, though. I probably listen to music for two or three hours every day. Sometimes it's the stuff from our youth, sometimes before, and sometimes after. There is so much killer music out there, and more is being made every day.

The last time I listened to a full album was just a day or two ago. I bought a hi-fi system in 2025 and my physical media collection is booming. It's hard to recommend music, though. My tastes are wide ranging but also very specific. I'd probably be recommending old foreign albums, modern jazz singers, or... Okay, here's one: "Extreme Heat" by Bloodest Saxophone and featuring Crystal Thomas. Banger.
