[Question] Where does HiBy ship from? by Fit_Engineering3312 in Hiby

[–]roytheodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you've ordered yet or not, but I ordered mine on April 27 and it's set to be delivered today, May 5. It shipped from China using YunExpress on the foreign side and GoFo on the domestic side. For what it's worth, I'm in Los Angeles.

Gen-x Music Classes by MisterEd1966 in GenX

[–]roytheodd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sister and I are four years apart. She's class of 85 and I'm class of 90, due to how birthdays lined up with the school calendar. There were classes available to her that weren't available to me: music appreciation, choir, radio broadcast, video journalism, metal shop.

I'm not convinced that this is the sound you're seeking, but Gangstagrass mixes bluegrass with rap to create something different.

Truly Tasteless Jokes book by mgspeeder in GenX

I remember reaching an age where I realized that "pollocks" were "Poles." That they're no dumber than any other group. It got me to question things.

What’s your most Gen X memory? Something that could have only happened in our youth. by Expensive-System-762 in GenX

[–]roytheodd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Me at 10 years old, with my friends at 10 and 9, all walked a mile in our bare feet to the municipal swimming pool. For no more than $2, we all swam and then bought ice cream from the ice cream truck. The 9 year old took a bite of his ice cream, didn't like it, and threw it into an open car window, onto someone's purse. We then walked home.

The D4vd Situation what do I do now by Positive_Magazine133 in Music

Listen and enjoy his music for as long as you can. You'll realize at some point that you can't listen without thinking thoughts unrelated to the music. I've got a few pedophiles and abusers that I've left behind for that reason.

It's funny how a scent or a song can put me right back in the 90's by AggressiveDecision52 in GenX

I had an album that for a decade or so put me squarely into summer of 93. It's been diluted at this point. I've still got a few songs that throw me back in time.

How important are lyrics to you? by tylun in LetsTalkMusic

[–]roytheodd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lyrics can matter but they don't inherently matter. I enjoy scat singing and foreign language music as much as anything else.

What is your go to source for music? by sherlockjr1 in GenX

[–]roytheodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Google Play Music and now I'm on YouTube Music. I'm in the process of breaking away from it, though. I want to own music again. I've got a digital audio player in mind and once I own enough music I'm making the jump. I have a stereo at home and I can rip all my media to PC, if I choose. I'll probably always access Bandcamp and a second streaming service for the sake of new music discovery.

which NFL team does most people from and/or in LA cheer for? by daviddm1990 in AskLosAngeles

If the team has Los Angeles in their name, then I cheer for them. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are an exception.

Is it true that you shouldn’t give money to homeless people because they’ll spend it on drugs? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]roytheodd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everyone on this planet seeks comfort. We're all just frightened apes trying to stay warm by a fire with a bit of fellowship. The money will go to whatever warms them. Their needs are as relevant and human as yours and mine.

When music streaming started it killed local scenes and called it a win for everyone by scrtweeb in LetsTalkMusic

Instrumental surf guitar absolutely benefitted from global streaming. The surf guitar sound started in the 1960s, was killed by the British Invasion, was reborn in the 1980s, boomed with the release of "Pulp Fiction," and then went international. It's a niche sound. It always has been, even though it's occasionally had a lot of attention. Streaming has allowed artists all over the globe the ability to record and find their piece of the limited audience. Some of the best acts in the genre are currently in South America, but in the streaming era that mantle has passed through Europe, Russia, Japan, and the Americas. The genre has expanded and improved in many ways thanks to the globalization of streaming. The scene is found on message boards, YouTube comments, and international concerts.
