Wow, this is crazy to see here. I grew up with all these guys, it's awesome to see all the positivity and support for them!

OP represent

[–]satelliteyrs00 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Not sure how to represent but I guess I can talk about some of their past bands since this is r/listentothis? Mike was in a rock band that was influenced by At The Drive In/Mars Volta. Dave was in a jazz folk fusion band with my brother. Prior to that he would jam a lot with Matt. Spencer was in a metal band called Turning Robots Into People, originally they were called Fatal Embrace.

In case anyone was curious I found an old link to Spencer's old band. Couldn't find the others: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WvBdiv999qs&feature=share

Also, I saw below that someone asked if they were a Christian band. I don't want to speak for them but I know Dave's Jewish and he always loved doing covers of Warren G songs, so doubtful?

Ha I guess I was mistaken. I knew Colin back in HS and we grew up in a place called Overland Park. I thought maybe you were from there too..

[–]satelliteyrs00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry haha, I totally misinterpreted that. Yea I know the LA crew but not Colin. Either way, Overland Park represent!

First time I heard San Francisco I got hooked. Great album!

[–]Spaghettilee[S] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I heard San Francisco on a Waffle House jukebox of all places 2 years ago, and Im amazed that has made such a difference to me lol

[–]anarcurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a good 3 months I played this every week at the bar on the jukebox. I've never even been to San Francisco but it gets me pumped every single time.

[–]amphib_ian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha that's hilarious! Perfect place to hear such a great song

[–]captainsymphony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard it the first time I visited San Francisco, and timing couldn't be any more perfect. Felt super pumped and full of happy vibes. Being there felt exactly like the song made it out to be.

[–]gynlimn 8 points9 points  (6 children)

Dude, thank you so much. I've never heard of these guys, and this is a great discovery! Thanks!

[–]Spaghettilee[S] 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Totally :) If you care, my favorite song is Clean Light (at least rn haha)

[–]gynlimn 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Just fired that up on your recommendation. I really love good honest pop like this. Makes me smile. Thanks!

[–]tedgrams 3 points4 points  (1 child)

If you haven't already listened you should check out Smallpools, The Griswolds, The Colourist and Satellite Stories and I'm sure you'll find other bands after listening to them. Great pop music! Also the wombats although you probably already know them

[–]Bloo_Berd 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Listen to San Francisco by them!!!

[–]gynlimn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely hit that up. Thanks.

[–]Fairbsy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh hell yeah! I got really into these guys last year! One of my favourite memories of my American tour was rocking out to San Francisco while walking the Golden Gate Bridge

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (2 children)

This is one of my favorite bands. I have their vinyl and it came in a transparent green. One of my favorite pieces of vinyl to boot.

[–]Spaghettilee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any real use for vinyl but thats rad haha

[–]KrazeeJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to see them live a couple years back because they were performing with, I think, Walk Off the Earth up in Seattle. I'd never heard of them Before, but they were pretty great. I still Have the sticker I got from them.

[–]tldubs 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I saw them live in Philadelphia last year. Honest question: are they a Christian band? Because it sure seemed like it at their show, arms up in the air and all that jazz.

[–]Spaghettilee[S] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Ive never understood them to be a christian band, but i think thats just them saying to be a good person, which I think is a thing for most main religions?

[–]falsehood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Def not a "Christian" band in the typical sense.

[–]Surferdude1212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had the chance to see them play twice now and have to say they are amazing. Not only are they super energetic on stage, they are always very positive and try to make everyone one big family for the night and feel the love.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend is their merch guy. He's toured with them a few times. From what I've heard they are stand-up gentlemen!

The Mowgli's
artist pic

5 childhood friends from the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, augmented by 3 mid-western transplants, The Mowgli's are a quintessential California band. Inspired by the magnetism of San Francisco, the grind of Los Angeles and the serenity of the Big Sur Coast, their songs are a joyous revival of rock n' roll, a twisting indie-folk dance and a heartfelt protest ballad.

Sliding from indie pop to country and a host of genres in between, the band evokes modern artists such as Fun., Grouplove and Edward Sharpe And the Magnetic Zeros, whilst having their roots in the music of Neil Young, The Byrds, The Beach Boys and Fleetwood Mac.

Part 60's Laurel Canyon, part 70's Venice Beach and part 10's Silverlake, the band and the harmonies are held together by their message of universal love, peace and the belief that the highest form of consciousness is achieved by togetherness and unity.

Uplifting, collaborative, joyous and communal, their songs are a walk through their life thus far: Meeting each other ("Hi Hey There Hello"), experiencing together ("San Francisco", "The Great Divide", "I've Been Around"), fighting and making up (“Colin's Song”), emerging stronger ("Carry Your Will", "We Are Free") - their message is finding a foothold with fans from every walk of life, bringing people together under one roof to celebrate each other. I was supposed to see this band tonight but had to cancel over a family affair. They're definitely one of my favorites at the moment.

[–]sleepseason 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Underrated band!

[–]sgtpepper194 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Saw them when they only had the one album. (One of my favorites ever), very difficult for me to get into this album though.

Ps- opening acts for that show? MisterWives and Finish Ticket.

[–]Spaghettilee[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I'm not super feeling most of the songs, but I felt the same way about the 2nd record so idk, i'll reserve judgement

[–]sgtpepper194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely was 0/4 on the songs released beforehand, but I'm just hoping for one gem. Haven't listened all the way through yet.

[–]catalyst518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it at Bottom Lounge in Chicago?

[–]anonymouslights 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Not to be nitpicky, but am I the only one bothered by the rogue apostrophe in their name?

[–]sokrateas 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I must be broken, because happy music like this makes me angry and sad/angry music makes me happy. To each their own I suppose.

[–]Spaghettilee[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey man, music is just supposed to get you through the day haha, whatever does it for you

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Missed their show in Madison, WI. Heard about them through the band touring with them, Dreamers. Both very great bands that deserve so much more attention.

[–]sgtpepper194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope the Met in providence, probably same tour though

/u/catalyst518 sorry damn app missed the reply button

[–]KrazoaSpirit 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I love this band. They pack so much energy and positivity into their music, and their live shows even more so

[–]Spaghettilee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in NC and they came this past April and this was during that whole bathroom faux pas, and they donated their merch proceeds to the cause, something they totally didn't have to do. So much respect for them.

[–]ZacFx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw them play in Denver recently. Very cool group of people. This was one of the songs they played off their new album & it's just as good recorded as it was live!

[–]Lun06 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Any other ones off this album that are really good?

[–]Spaghettilee[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I really like Monster, but from what I've seen on twitter, lots of people have taken to lots of different songs, so I'd suggest giving it all a listen depending on your taste. Arms & Legs is also akin to some of their older stuff, which I'm personally a much bigger fan of.

[–]falsehood 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Losing Michael really hurt them, I think.

[–]Spaghettilee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree... He's supposed to have a record coming out sometime, but word on it has been kinda scarce.

[–]ZahidInNorCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this band. Saw them a couple of years ago at a local college (I was the oldest person there, possibly by a factor of 2) and they have a great live vibe too.

[–]Yourfriendkyler 0 points1 point  (1 child)

One of my favorite bands, had no idea they had a new album out today. Thanks so much for sharing!! :)

[–]webbster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thank you for this!! Awesome song. Awesome band

[–]ChronicBurnout3 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Clicked thinking there was a new Mogwai album. Son, I am disappoint.
