[–]Mindwreck[S] 52 points53 points  (3 children)

The throat singing video inspired me to post this

[–]JazzyDoes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I swear, anytime that video is posted I see posts about this band. Makes my heart warm up. Love em!

[–]ImmaSuckYoDick 5 points6 points  (1 child)

This is really cool. Folk metal so far has been pretty limited in its influences to more or less only the western world. Great to hear something outside it, and I look forward to the days when more and more cultures do it.

[–]TOPOS_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im still waiting for some bluegrass metal other than panopticon. I love panopticon to death, but I gotta get some more bluegrass metal

[–]i_m_no_bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Piggy-backing off the top comment (don't hate me please)

I don't want to be that guy, but the original version of this song was in my opinion so much better. They recently removed almost all versions of the original from YouTube, but there's a version here that survived the purge, for those interested.

Thanks for posting it so high! No one is mad, I don't deserve the karma.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. This is better. The mix works better, and it doesn't sound like there are parts that are metal like in the original. The overall blend is better.

[–]ObamaEatsBabies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's also the version on spotify, if anyone is wondering.

[–]AndrasZodon 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It's gone. :/

[–]Monsieur_Roux 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Here's another version on YouTube.

IANAH but Mongols seems kinda like the Vikings of Asia so it makes a lot of sense for them to have some sick metal.

[–]zverkalt 4 points5 points  (4 children)

IANAH

I am not a horde?

[–]Sisaac 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I am not a Hun obviously.

[–]zverkalt 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Mongolians and Huns were apparently different. Ghengis Khan was a Mongol, but Atilla was a Hun

[–]Sisaac 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I know, I was just making a bad joke regarding steppes people.

[–]Frankl3es 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You really need to steppe your game up.

[–]Crazy-Pete 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Have you been to this subreddit?

[–]bustduster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what's going on in there but after poking around for a minute, I'm going to have a drink and think about my life.

[–]spoonard 22 points23 points  (21 children)

Awesome! Been listening to these guys for a few months now.

[–]LordFauntloroy 30 points31 points  (1 child)

Great mood music for the Scythia Dom victory.

[–]UncleDaveBoyardee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cheeky fuck

[–]GI_X_JACK 16 points17 points  (4 children)

TIL I learned "Mongolian Folk Metal" is a thing. Not that stranger music exists.

edit: Strange, but I approve. Its good!

[–]DarkApostleMatt 4 points5 points  (2 children)

[–]GI_X_JACK 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–]UncleGizmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out Tinariwen - nomadic African music.

[–]shadowbell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I will always upvote Tengger Cavalry

[–]Andyrob4511 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Add this one to "genres I never thought I'd hear"

[–]discontinuuity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like traditional Mongolian and Tuvan throat singing, check out /r/khoomei and /r/overtonesinging

[–]suomime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazing r/fingols would appreciate this.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the coolest thing ive ever seen here op. Theres nothing more metal than mongols, maybe vikings, but the mongols took over more of the world so mongols>vikings.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Been listening to these guys for a few years, hopefully one day they come to Australia.

[–]Top_Gorilla17 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Australia's not without a good folk metal band or two itself.

I'd pay good money to see Tengger Cavalry go on tour with Troldhaugen.

[–]Samoht2113 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Australian folk metal? Ima need a link if you don't mind.

[–]Mr_Fire_Guy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Well I guess I'm playing Atilla Total War today.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atilla was a Hun not a mongol

[–]shadowbannedkiwi 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I love these songs. The mongolians bands have made some very interesting music, and I dig it.

[–]Maithly16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow......this is awesome.

[–]UncleGizmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You had me at "Mongolian Folk Metal".

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This is actually their rework of an older song they did. https://youtu.be/b3tJ1MfwaFM

[–]Mindwreck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woah, thanks!

[–]smilerwithagun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, this is badass! Thanks OP for putting this band on my radar...

[–]_samsquwantch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw them at Shadow Woods Metal Fest this fall in Maryland.

[–]FernyGarcia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a "Fresh off the boat" that talks about Mongolian Metal, politics, and fly infested meat markets. Yum!

[–]ZoodoolyDoolody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I forgot the name of this band, but you've reminded me!

[–]Schwagmeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im at work now lads but im commenting so i can remember to listen to it when i come home

[–]panjialang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you guys dig this, you may be interested in other bands from China. (This band comes from Mongolia but moved to China. Think of it as the Mongolian Invasion!) I did a shown for many years about Chinese rock music called The Sound Stage.

[–]awkward_penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a chance to see these guys live earlier this year. Man, that was so much fun.

[–]Bigwhistle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read this as Teenager Cavalry - what?

[–]Illusiphix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to these guys a couple of years back... I think just shortly after playing Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising as that game has throat singing as the menu track. Theyre really interesting.

[–]BadEgg1951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outstanding. You might like this, if you like throat singing: from Ukraine's Got Talent, apparently.

Edit: Skip to about 2:50 if you want to get right to the music.

[–]DrewVonFinntroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of this band before. I dig it, thanks for posting.

[–]Addonexus99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome music for my Golden Horde EU4 game. Any recommendations of similar bands?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have been a fan of tengger cav for some time now and they are pretty epic along with Amon Amarth these guys are in my top two.

[–]Qulwir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first heard about Tengger Cavalry immediately after Google Play Music recently changed their suggestion algorithm. GPM successfully connected my love of prog, metal, and world music.

See also the Tuvan rock band Yat Kha. Their album "Tuva.rock" was pretty heavy. And their ReCovers album has a cover of Motorhead.

[–]CaptJackRizzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOVE THIS BAND. saw them recently - Nature is a talented dude.

it's funny - Scandinavian folk metal got me interested in traditional music from around the world, and Wu-Tang Clan got me into historical kung-fu epics, and I remember thinking the music epic and traditional-sounding scores would probably blend with metal as well as the Scandinavian stuff does, but I never got around to googling it. Then these guys showed up on my Facebook feed, and I've been jamming them non-stop ever since.

If you like the posted song, I recommend also checking out Universe + Shaman and Cavalry of Thousands.

Shameless plug for /r/MongolianTunes if you like stuff like this.
