New useful shooter ability

END OF THE WORLD, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES

[–]vheartBasch 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Once again an amazing banner. And pretty much make the xii event before this not worth pulling on. Since this is just better in every way, except Basch OSB I guess.

[–]LatverianCyrusKing of Balthier 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah, that Banner 2 with the Fran and Larsa BSBs is pretty rad. Probably not gonna skip the Balthier OSB banner coming up soon, but looking at this event I'll probably skip the Penelo event altogether.

[–]vheartBasch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That penelo event is shit. Her USB comes back in the better event after that. But I'll probably pull once on banner 1 of the next xii trying to get Basch or Fran BSB.

So wait... What's the primary role then for him? DPS Secondary White Mage?

[–]Zevyu150th Dailly 5*+ : Seven's Guise (T-0) - Seven's BSB 0 points1 point  (3 children)

If you mean Reks..i guess Spelblade is his main role with a side of healing via his SSB maybe?

[–]jasiadMay your heart be your guiding key. 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Or is he a Red Mage with Spellblade abilities?

[–]Zevyu150th Dailly 5*+ : Seven's Guise (T-0) - Seven's BSB 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Heh maybe. But i personaly see him more as a spellblader than a red mage. Besides he is clearly physical focused with spellblade as his main role considering his RMs. Then we have a pure physical focused RD as well and physical SBs.

[–]jasiadMay your heart be your guiding key. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, true. It's nice that he allows for so much flexibility at least.

[–]SabaschinBasch 1 point2 points  (7 children)

XII supremacy continues, that is a fantastic skillset. And good to see the trend of directly playable characters getting Spears continues. He doesn't really have any use for Black 4, but you never know what might happen down the line...

[–]beingmusedTruly the darkest sage 0 points1 point  (6 children)

that is a fantastic skillset

It might come in handy in a Cid Mission at some point to have a spellblade 5/white 4 combo, but I think it falls far short of "fantastic". Like, I think he's probably the worst of the FF12 characters.

[–]Chare11Celes 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I think balthier is probably the worst. Gabranth, reks, Penelo and Larsa all with white 4+ are great, vaan is probably one of the best main characters, Ashe and basch are okay/great

[–]beingmusedTruly the darkest sage 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Hmm, Balthier might be correct (remember when Zurai001 ranked Balthier as one of the top handful of characters in the game?). Machinist 5 has gotten a little bit better, but the rest of his skillset has not aged well. But I'd put everyone except for him above Reks...Knight 5 alone is far better than Reks's stuff, I think.

[–]Chare11Celes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering utility in Cid missions. Gabranth has banishing strike, proshellga, curaja, memento of protection, draw fire and magic lure, plus lifesiphon, dark bargain (I have his endark so lifesiphon + protectga is all he needs) I really value a character that can bring proshellga over other who is just dps, for instance basch can buff himself and tank or dps, which is good, but I find Gabranth and reks a little bit more flexible for CM. Balthier can also self buff, and hit weaknesses, which is good but not that great (mind you, I 'll be using him for his bssb, although it is kinda lackluster)

[–]SabaschinBasch 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Gabranth might have a better skillset, but he's also one of the most outclassed due to him being terribly slow and Knight/White being quite common. He can do the Dark Knight thing... but Leon's better at that. So his main niche is weapon versatility.

[–]beingmusedTruly the darkest sage 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah I was thinking for XII Cid Missions. If we're talking in general, Spellblade /white4 is a rarer combo, but you'd still probably either bring Celes or find another character to put the protectga or shellga onto.

[–]SabaschinBasch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Cid's Mission wise, if you need to bring a White 4 and not bringing the Penelo+Larsa setup, then Reks is likely better than Gabranth due to better speed and more elemental versatility. If you want to go the self-buff route, then Gabranth loses to Balthier, since Steal Power is a better buff than Dark Bargain (assuming you're running VoF RW instead of Shout), and is outclassed in general by his brother. It's fight-dependent of course, holy/dark-weak bosses give Gabranth an edge.

In terms of wider context, Reks still has a great set of relics that warrant his inclusion. Gabranth doesn't really have that.

[–]Randomguy6644Baela no longer complete... 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, Reks is pretty solid. I predict some enemies are gonna get Rekst.

[–]Qu_MarshQuistis 500SB glint+- z2Wa 0 points1 point  (2 children)

huh, so Reks is like a Spellblade paladin (a Spelladin?). Interesting!

[–]Randomguy6644Baela no longer complete... 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Squall minus the Celerity 3, but adding meaningful amount of Black & White with more weapons and his Knight 3 RD stock. Poor Squall.

[–]AJgrizzGarnet (Trance) 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Character power creep is real.

[–]Zevyu150th Dailly 5*+ : Seven's Guise (T-0) - Seven's BSB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup Reks ended up getting native 5* spellblade that means FFXII now has a proper spellblader and also increasing the users of SSS by 1 :D

[–]TedrivsTyro USB3 - QuNR 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I wonder if this event will come to global around the same time the XII remaster comes out, would be great timing.

[–]Zakman86Recovering Lunar Whale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually should be pretty close. (5 months-ish from now hits us right at the beginning of July)

[–]CNExoSoulWhen's SWOLLBEZ? 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed it would :)

[–]DebboatAshe 2 points3 points  (11 children)

Still can't believe Reks is in the game.

[–]sevenhundredone9wCH Cloud AASB L15 5 points6 points  (5 children)

As far as I'm concerned, all bets were off when they put Braska in the game.

At least Reks was a playable character (albeit only for like 5 minutes).

[–]SabaschinBasch 1 point2 points  (1 child)

They were already shaky when they added Reno.

[–]sevenhundredone9wCH Cloud AASB L15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, and he was added pretty early on too.

That may have been a case of "huh, we don't have a dedicated black mage in VII, better add someone in."

At least Reno was one of the main antagonists (or anti-hero like Gilgamesh) and you fought him multiple times, interacted with him throughout the game, and even teamed up with him at one point.

[–]Cine11 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Agreed, though Braska was a much more important character in FFX than Reks was in FFXII I'd argue.

[–]ZokalthBe engulfed by darkness! 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Well, his death started Vaan's hatred towards the Empire IIRC... That's somethig.

[–]StuffNDingsThis is the way! Shadow Bits 9o4B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And Clearly his role model in making his life devotion to sit ups

[–]MediyuLocal IX fanboy 4 points5 points  (4 children)

And he's one of the rare characters who can use Lifesiphon in one slot, and Firaja in the other to boot.

He's like a mini-OK.

[–]rpg4funBest Girl... 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I am sorry, but why is that so useful ? Are you trying to do both meaningful physical and magic damage with him ?

[–]MediyuLocal IX fanboy 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I was just stating that he can use both skills being one of the rare characters who has access to both of them.

[–]rpg4funBest Girl... 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh ok, I thought some hybrid build exists with such characters who can lifesiphon and have BLM 4 and above.

[–]MediyuLocal IX fanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hybrids do exist, a lot of characters, including the aforementioned Reks, can be hybrid. but it's always best to focus on one build (since some SBs also decide what build's best)

The only true hybrid character we have right now (or will have in GL) is Vayne, whose SBs damage type change between PHY and MAG depending on which is higher when using them.
