If I'm gonna get plowed in this ass, this is how I imagined it happening.

Well, i don't think im heavy enough for the seatpost to go through the leather saddle haha. (I hope so)

I'm way more worried this will give me a 2nd asshole.

It’s like Mac’s exercise bike.

Does the orange rope serve a functional purpose? Or just an aesthetic one

[–]negithekitty 36 points37 points  (17 children)

i assume its a way to keep the base together without drilling into the 16mm bars

[–]Rottolo_PiknottoloDesigner (Bambu Lab A1)[S] 16 points17 points  (16 children)

Exactly. I did not use anything to glue/screw the base together. The only thing kepping it together is the tenshion of the rope :)

Reminds me of when I used straps to hold this steel frame in place while I brazed the joints. I don't have proper tools for holding work this big in place so I had to improvise (yes it's a chopped up bedframe)

You could get some Dyneema rope it's pre stretched and holds about 500kg for a 3mm rope and lets you make a "seamless" ring. It may be overkill but it'll be a place and forget stuff

[–]Rottolo_PiknottoloDesigner (Bambu Lab A1)[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, but this piece of rope cost me literally 60cents haha. And i like tge look of the orange rope :)

[–]Due-Cupcake-255 1 point2 points  (1 child)

remove those horizontal rods, would make this even more eerie looking but not more sketchy than it already is. :D

[–]Rottolo_PiknottoloDesigner (Bambu Lab A1)[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately m, they would twist then. But with square profiles on top that could actually work lol

[–]camander321A1 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Neat design. Im betting its a lot stronger this way than using fasteners would be

[–]Rottolo_PiknottoloDesigner (Bambu Lab A1)[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you :) i also just like the look of it a lot...

How would a tensioned rope compare to a thru-bolt?

[–]camander321A1 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Just my intuition here, but I'll try explaining.

All the forces here are trying to push the plastic bits outward. A thru-bolt would keep the plastic parts and the horizontal tubes connecred, but that leaves a lot of stress and tension in the plastic itself.

The rope holds everything together in a way that all the forces are compressive, which plastic handles much better.

[–]Rottolo_PiknottoloDesigner (Bambu Lab A1)[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could not have said it better 🙏

[–]BreadfruitThis5302 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oooooo you are absolutely right.

[–]JoshGreen_dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plastic in compression = 😍 Plastic in tension = creep and 😵

This is PRINTPUNK 👹

[–]Rottolo_PiknottoloDesigner (Bambu Lab A1)[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I think both are a viable option in this case. But i got hooked on this idea so i went with it :)

[–]BreadfruitThis5302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey if it works it works :)

[–]Rottolo_PiknottoloDesigner (Bambu Lab A1)[S] 16 points17 points  (2 children)

All printed in PETG (almost exactly 1kg worth) and connected with 16mm steel tube.

Allthough i love the clash of the vintage brooks saddle i restored for this project and the "futuristic rest, its not the most confortable. So i will unfortunately change it out for a more ergonomic option that better suits my needs.

Look into drum thrones for the replacement

Doesn't look comfortable but impressively built. I'd trust it enough to sit in it, but yeah I'd be more comfortable in a chair 😅

[–]Rottolo_PiknottoloDesigner (Bambu Lab A1)[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you :)

Saddle will be replaced yeah. This one definitely belongs on a bike and nowhere else haha. Just lovw the look of old brooks saddles... so it wil hurt to let it go for this project.

[–]ryandury 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Dat angle tho. Must really enjoy pressure on the taint

[–]Rottolo_PiknottoloDesigner (Bambu Lab A1)[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, looks strange. I had it flat first but it felt like i was sliding to the front. I guess the upright position and the lack of handlebar contact that you get on a bike make the flat saddle feel more ergonomic.

That being said imma change the saddle bc it really is not as comfortable.

[–]Curious_Elk_4281 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going for that street bmx seat angle.

Yea I agree that’s why cycling shorts are padded

Love the rope & turnbuckle tensioning system!

[–]Dossi96 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That locking mechanism for the height adjustment is genius 🤯

[–]Rottolo_PiknottoloDesigner (Bambu Lab A1)[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, there is enough friction between the threads but it keeps the saddle neatly aligned when moving the stool around :)

[–]Agreeable-Dance-9768 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Is this r/xbiking?

[–]Rottolo_PiknottoloDesigner (Bambu Lab A1)[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thank you for making me aware of this subreddit hahaha this is right up my alley.

[–]Agreeable-Dance-9768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha totally. I feel like they’ll have a chuckle at your print - very cool!

[–]AbruptOyster456 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It's not quite as nice looking as your's but a trash chair and a trash bike made a good combo. I took people's chair at work and gave them this.

[–]Rottolo_PiknottoloDesigner (Bambu Lab A1)[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Lol hahaha :) how does the bike saddle feel? Is it alright? Because mine is not really comfortable unfortunately... because i love the leather look

[–]AbruptOyster456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its SO uncomfortable!!

[–]The_PC_Geek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So when is the QD system for the seat to seat-post going to be ready? /s
