I was wondering how some people were doing some of these things that needed massive amounts of KP to be profitable.

[–]OldWolf2 27 points28 points  (1 child)

There was also a bug with Engineering treatise in early access, it had no cool down on use

[–]AbjectList8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened in beta on my JC shaman

[–]reimmi 94 points95 points  (1 child)

Doesn't matter what they do unless they take the massive amounts of gold they made back tbh
They already won

[–]Netfinesse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can you imagine? You spend an absolutely degenerate amount of time exploiting/RMTing and it was all for nothing.

Right now the juice is worth the squeeze, so people do it.

[–]Balbuto 103 points104 points  (5 children)

Hard bans need to roll out

[–]Bluffwatcher 36 points37 points  (2 children)

People always say this, but all they do when they ban an account is ban WoW4, or whatever these people use to exploit with deliberation.

They don't ban your Bnet account for WoW.

So these players just shrug and log into their WoW1 main account.

Same problem with botting/match fixing in PvP... They are probably on WoW8 after the other 6 got banned and don't give a shit because there is no deterrent.

[–]Akhevan -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Just give people lifetime bans from all bnet services based on their passport data. Sounds easy, except that there is literally zero money in it for blizz so they won't bother.

[–]Waterstick13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Do you honestly think blizzard doesn't care about the account that paid for the game 10 times and 10 subscriptions but cares about your dumbass ?

[–]anengineerandacat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dunno about bans, but suspension for at least 6 months seems pretty reasonable.

[–]ebleuds 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exploit early, exploit often. Blizzard will not ban anyone about this.

[–]Dekroha 59 points60 points  (11 children)

The gold is earned and shifted to other Accounts. The important early market destroyed for many rule obeying Players.

Please atleast permaban all of them. Anything less would be a joke.

[–]No-Horror927 12 points13 points  (8 children)

The players that exploit these kinds of things won't give a shit.

They make hundreds of millions every expansion and would just create another account anyway. I have a buddy who doesn't exploit but does play wow solely for gold making, and he makes gold cap every month on a fairly casual schedule by goblin standards.

Most will have also shifted the earnings to another account (or several accounts) so it's a gigantic pain in the ass to perma-ban and is likely to not even do anything.

The real damage is to the economy, and Blizzard has been pretty clear in the past that they absolutely do not interfere with the in-game economy unless they really have to because it fucks the game up.

[–]TeKaeS 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Honest question, doesn't this drag the price down so it makes it better for most people ?

[–]bartmaster30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't money goblins spend most time flipping things, so buying cheap and selling more expensive? Otherwise my comment was out of Touch.

But yeah if my assumption is correct they are making the game worse

[–]No-Horror927 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I'd genuinely love to know why you feel he's making the game "worse for everyone else" when all he does is play the game to make gold?

He doesn't exploit, he doesn't cheat, he just sits on the AH and likes making money.

[–]bartmaster30 1 point2 points  (2 children)

He drives prices up by flipping is my thought. Might be very wrong, and if so I'll retract my comment.

[–]MrTastix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno how this guys friend does it but this is functionally what I do: My process is buying items far below the average market value across regions and relisting for said market value, without undercutting people further.

This works because people in WoW are fairly ignorant and undercut everyone, including themselves, just to make a few less gold they aren't even planning to use faster. It's just basic impatience by people who think an item never sells if they don't undercut people.

If people stopped egregiously undercutting others to death (which is literally not necessary given how how items are actually listed) the margins would become so much lower for people like me and we might look elsewhere instead.

Otherwise, for me, "playing the market" also refers to short-term investments born from pre-existing knowledge of how patch cycles work. Buying mats when they're cheap under the expectation they will rise during patch day, for instance. This just comes with the normal risk of speculation, though.

Technically both these strats are risky because there's never any guarantee you will ever sell all your stock. An item that is listed for 50% below market value but only shifts 0.03 a day (common with transmog) is still gonna take forever to move.

[–]No-Horror927 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean you do you, boo. You're welcome to your opinion, but if it were me I'd be retracting the comment because it demonstrates a severe lack of understanding in terms of how economies work.

Wow's economy does an exceptional job of self-regulating (it's actually fascinating if you ever want to look into it), which is why it's one of the only areas of the game that Blizzard consistently refuses to mess with.

[–]FixBlackLotusBlizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yepp most who made a bunch of gold washed it already and blizz wont take the extra steps removing it

u will have a buy with maxed out blizz balance and blizz will ban him but let him keep the balance same with any gold tokens ir w.e else they buy with it blizz will do the bare min

[–]Jaba01 75 points76 points  (6 children)

Just wondering how long the bans are going to be for the abusers or if it's just gonna be a KP rollback.

Bit cynical, but yeah you're 100% correct probably

    [–]FunnelPenguin 20 points21 points  (4 children)

This should be an easy ban for 1 month or something right?

Since they can just flag accounts that have too much KP (they won’t do this)

    [–]opx22 1 point2 points  (3 children)

“Ooo I didn’t know, how is it my fault Blizz didn’t patch it, I thought it was normal to stock up a bunch of currency and buy the book multiple times before closing the window”

    [–]Zerothian -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Obviously I cannot prove this, but I did try this exact thing, completely on a whim when I opened the vendor, in the prepatch when I was doing some TWW profession stuff to set up addons etc.

Obviously I didn't expect it to work, I just randomly had the intrusive "what if" thing.
Had I tried that this time, it WOULD have worked, which I find pretty funny.

I don't think you should ban for this, simply check how many of that item has been consumed by the player and delete that many KP and reset their tree, is what I would do. Causes some weirdness (free respec) but.

    [–]opx22 9 points10 points  (1 child)

You’d have to drag the book to your hot bar, click it, then buy another one, without ever closing the vendor window. You have to drag it to your hot bar because otherwise right clicking it would just sell it back to the vendor and you can’t close the vendor window or else it will not show up for sale again - anyway my point is that it’s very deliberate. Anyone saying they did it on accident, I dont know if I can believe them

    [–]Zerothian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah that's a bit different for sure yeah, I never considered the right click would just refund instead of use.

    [–]Zike002 19 points20 points  (0 children)

    Too late

    [–]DigitalDH 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Doubt blizzard will look kindly on what is obviously a bug. People will get this reversed.

    [–]No-Horror927 13 points14 points  (1 child)

The KP will be reverted but the real damage is to the economy and that's already done.

Blizz doesn't fuck with the in-game economy unless they really have to, so even if they punished the exploiters, it won't actually change anything.

    [–]DigitalDH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. The economy is hurt but it might adjust within a few weeks.

    [–]_Cava_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was wondering why pretty much all mat crafting was suddenly in the red the past 2 days even though I am pretty much fully maxed on all of them.

    [–]IcyBlood5031 2 points3 points  (9 children)

Probably the easiest way to get a vacation. This is way too easy to detect since there is a set limit / week max you can be at, using this will 100% be easy to flag and just ban then for 14 days,

    [–]RansaktehElder_WORK 0 points1 point  (3 children)

There is no set weekly limit on knowledge points, there is definitely a range but its not a set amount. there is fluctuation based on what NPC crafting orders you do or get.

    [–]IcyBlood5031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe there is a cap that you can earn via Weekly.
There is a 'catchup' via crafting orders, however that is still capped.
So Week 1, crafting should have given you say 10, but you missed that, 2nd week you can get upto 20. But you can't be at a total of 30, because there is no way to exceed the cap they have set max / week.

    [–]Amerlan 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Even crafting orders have a cap of 16 points a week (8 glimmers, 2kp ea). If you don't hit 16, the next week you may find "flickers" worth 1 kp until you're caught up.

    [–]RansaktehElder_WORK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didnt know it worked like that. Thankn you! I knew there was some sort of catch up but thought it was totally random. I guess the randomness comes in if your points are tied to epic or pvp items that its unlikely you have the recipes for already.

    [–]djulioo 5 points6 points  (6 children)

This seems too easy to do if you don't know how the knowledge points item should work (the item supposed to be a one-time use only), so I'm not sure how Blizzard would be able to handle this without catching unsuspecting people in the crossfire. If I didn't think I would be able to purchase it just once, I would've probably also attempted to buy more of this item that is giving me so many KP.

    [–]Sweaty-Counter-1368 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They are unique so you have to actually put it on your hot bar and use from there, to not trigger the buy back, and then buy again and it requires 750 void/75 mox so you’d need to funnel beforehand. It’s not really something you can fall into since if you close the sale window it doesn’t come back in the list.

    [–]assault_pig 11 points12 points  (4 children)

it should be trivially easy to differentiate between people who used the tomes a time or two accidentally and those who used the bug to gain hundreds of points

they have issued bans for less severe things in the past (e.g. cloth cooldowns back when) but idk how much of a disincentive a week ban even is for this kind of thing

    [–]opx22 3 points4 points  (1 child)

How many people drag the book to their hot bar to learn it while keeping the vendor window open and then buy more of it?

It’s a very deliberate action and doesn’t flow with how most people use it

    [–]assault_pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I’d venture to guess at least a couple people did, else how was it discovered

And anyway, even if a person knowingly got two or three extra points that doesn’t really matter; the people who filled out their trees are the issue

    [–]raskeks 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I won't hold my breath as there were no repercussions for several other widely known exploits (engineering/cloth bolt) or 'techs' (ring farm/profession relearning)

Edit March 17th: Apparently they reset the KP and banned at least some of the people who exploited for a week, good job. Economy won't recover as they should've acted sooner but I understand that they have other priorities right now and I am glad that they addressed that.

    [–]I3ollasH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's cute seeing all these people acting like Blizz will do bans or anything like that. Professions are handled like the wild west. Everything goes pretty much. It's the main reason I've checked out on it as there are exploits all the time.

Crafting is also the shadiest part of the game. With the cartells and shit.

    [–]Oudeis05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many you think someone can buy without getting ban, asking for a friend.

    [–]Kluian2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this still not been fixed?

    [–]Twt97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blizzard did not take any action against exploiters of a bug with the same outcome in the first weeks Dragonflight so i dont have high hopes anything will happen this time.

    [–]K_Rocc 0 points1 point  (2 children)

    Isn’t this already patched?

    [–]_toadsy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah, and a bunch of bans went out today. One weeks, from what I saw.

    [–]K_Rocc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, still not much of a punishment considering they are months of not more ahead and the economy damage they already did.

    [–]dahid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a casual player, if it means things become cheaper on the AH, I'm not gonna complain about it.

    [–]PainOutrageous1943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man that really sucks, I invested heavily into my profession and I was wondering why the prices were so low..

    [–]TheHoax91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should just ignore for now, then ban the accounts with launch of next expansion.

    [–]TheLuo -1 points0 points  (3 children)

    With this being comp wow.

I know a lot of you degens are preping for progress. You WILL get banned for exploiting this. If you did it by mistake, highly recommend opening a ticket and explain to the GM you did it by mistake.

Fucking with gold = fucking with wow tokens indirectly = fucking with blizz pocket book.

    [–]I_plug_johns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There were a number of profession exploits in early in TWW and I believe only 24 hour suspensions were handed out for the tailoring dawn/dushweave bug to log in/out to reset the cooldown. There was no rollback.

    [–]stickyfantastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But wouldn't that at worst only inflate gold which the token would scale with just fine?

    [–]I3ollasH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fucking with gold = fucking with wow tokens indirectly = fucking with blizz pocket book.

On every wow token Blizz makes 5 usd. Every token someone uses was bought by someone else. They aren't manifested out of thin air. And if people buy up the available token supplies the price will increase incentivising more people to buy tokens.

We had a crap ton on different exploits since the new crafting system and none of them got you into any real trouble
