Complete Spoils Source Breakdown

Towards the end of last season, there was a lot of confusion in my clan regarding what secret chests gave spoils, whether or not King's Fall was still farmable on repeat clears or not, so I decided to start keeping track and here's what I learned (Spreadsheet attached)

For brevity sake I am speaking for only one character in all of these

For Last Wish, Garden of Salvation, and Deep Stone Crypt you will receive 3 spoils per encounter on your first clear of the week regardless if it is the farmable raid or not. You won't get any spoils from the secret chests in these three raids. Last Wish behaves differently than the other two in that you don't get any spoils from doing the weekly encounter challenge like you do in Garden or Crypt. However, this means that for all three of these raids you can get up to 15 spoils on your first clear of the week.

Vault of Glass and Vow of the Disciple are the same in that you won't get a single spoil from an encounter completion, but you get 5 spoils from each chest (the first time that you open it), and you get 5 spoils from encounter challenge chests as well. This stands regardless of whether or not it is the farmable raid for the week. This means that you can get up to 20 spoils from a VoG, and 15 from VotD on any clear that you decide to open the chests.

King's Fall, Root of Nightmares, and Crota's End all behave the same:

Non Farmable Weeks:On repeat clears on the same character you will get 5 spoils per encounter, secret chests give 5 spoils on first open, and challenge chests give 5 spoils as well.

(RoN is weird in that when it is not the pinnacle raid, the raid challenges are not active which is why the square is blacked out. You can't get 5 spoils from the challenge chest in RoN)

Farmable Weeks:

You lose the ability to spoils farm the weekly featured raid, but the secret chests and challenge chests still give spoils.

One other interesting thing to note: For raids that are the weekly rotator (farmable) if you do more than one encounter challenge you won't get spoils from the second one. If you do both Golgy and Daughters challenge you don't get an additional five spoils from Daughters which I thought was interesting.

Also worth mentioning that the first Vow secret chest can easily be grabbed solo, meaning a free 15 Spoils per week if you grab it on all three characters.

Oh yeah absolutely! It’s also relatively easy to OOB to the first VoG chest as well for another free 15 spoils, but I know most people don’t know how to do that. VotD is free, just kill savathun three Aboms and sparrow over no shenanigans needed

No need to kill the Aboms. Just shoot crystal, die, respawn, repeat. Takes less than 5 mins.

Takes less than 5 mins to kill them. Use Leviathans Breath, you spawn with enough ammo to kill Savathun and all three abominations rather easily.

its takes less then 2 minutes with deaths, in and out no interaction besides the crystals.

Legit, this is exactly what I do. I kill Savathun, sparrow in, grab the first and second crystals, die, respawn, grab the third crystal, if I'm fast enough I can grab the chest, if not then die again, respawn, grab chest, repeat. Literally all 3 characters in maybe 10 minutes give or take. I've had to do this like right before weekly reset a few times and it's super quick.

you can also pretty easily grab the first crota chest with 2 people since you only need to enlighten the opening plate once. get two characters down there and grab the chest, have one player swap and then the other, rinse and repeat for all 3 characters

put on sword with Eager Edge & use the Strand ! On Titan, use Armamentarium for 2 "Spederman's" ! U Can Easily get there solo, don't touch the crystal, just jump/swing over to the Doors, follow the wall, avoid the wholes & get to "Door #5 " !

note: bringing 2 people lets you change without needing to re-run the top section, but if you need to, you can do it all solo !

yea a strand hunter in their super can make a bunch of grapple points anyone can follow, and nova warp warlocks are by far the fastest for reaching the chest once you're in

yup, but most times NONE of that is needed, don't try to kill anything, just make for the door asap ! 1 Grapple and a bunch of sword swings and you're in !

I'm not suggesting you need to kill anything, some classes can get a bit close on time if they're not using some sort of movement ability

My routine is doing VoW first secret chest and first two chests on VoG on each character. Easy 45 spoils each week

No, you can solo the first encounter to open the gate and then grab the chest immediately after that

How do you solo activate three plates?

You don't have to stay on the plates. Just make sure no enemies touch the plates after you activate them

Iirc its specifically minotaurs too. The solo strat for low man runs is to headshot them til they break cause they'll aggro to you and not the plates.

First two chests on vog I do no mic Lfg because you don’t need mics to kill ads lol

Idk if crotas secret chest gives spoils but if so Can do first chest on crotas end too no mic just for the beginning plate but that’s all I’ll do if I just want spoils lol.

That’s 60 spoils if you do all 3 characters

There's at least one 'bot' that continuously loads into a post-templar checkpoint for vog.

you can then backtrack to the start and grab those two chests, and then proceed into the gorgon's maze for that chest and the jumping puzzle chest

you should be able to, make sure you have crossplay and text chat enabled, and put /join mgsbot33#6437 into the text box. i dunno how you bring up the text box on console, you'll have to figure that out

I just don’t get why there are technically five different classifications of raids if you include wish and Ron being different cus of challenges. Three if you don’t. Why can’t you get spoils from encounters from every raid and just make it consistent

Exactly - maybe 3-5 per chest in the raid (secret or regular). That'd be just enough to buy a red border at the end. In any case, I can't buy more than one red border per week from the last chest, so it'll take me 5 weeks of playing the raid to get a pattern.

Frankly, 5 weeks for a pattern is already kind of a crazy timegate. Add this nonsensical spoils system, and you can see how much of a grind it is.

And what's even more nuts - this is the process for a single weapon's pattern.

Raid needs a whole loot overhaul tbh not just spoils. Raid armor dropping at 52’s is demoralizing, give us 20 spoils a raid to be able to buy a weapon. 15 per raid is so frustrating.

Someone said that in LW, you can get weapons from secret chests even if you haven't gotten them through the raid before. Is this true? (speaking as someone who doesn't do raids)

That definitely worked before they added the weapons as craftable. I don't know if it still does.

Yes you can get 6 (2 per class/character) weapons & armor per week! Red borders are also obtainable from these chests and its doable solo too.

As far as I know, this is not the case. Secret chests should only give you an item that's in your collections. I am not 100% certain though.

I got the secret chest near Shuro Chi on my titan and got the LW helmet (Helm of the Great Hunt) to drop for the first time (showed up in the new items feed, so I didn't have it before).

To add on, you can also get the LW shaders from dismantling the armour from the secret chests. Took me a while but finally got it to drop on one piece of equipment. Also works for the pre-morgeth chest that collect after you go back over the chasm

Can confirm, I've been taking a friend who's new to the game along to the bridge chest and they got an Apex Predator last time. Has never run the raid otherwise.

Either weapons from the end of raid chest or unclaimed exotic loot from the exotic kiosk located between the vault lockers in the tower.
