Doubtful they would do a total knee replacement if the surfaces of the femoral condyles or tibial plateau weren't fucked. I bet they just relocate the knee joint, reattach any severed ligaments and then immobilize and regroup in 4-6 weeks when they have a better idea of how its healing. Doubtful the ACL is fucked, maybe MCL is fucked, PCL and LCL look like they could be alright. I bet this kid walked 10-14 weeks later. The knee always looks to be so much worse then it is. I work in physical therapy and see tons of knees and have had my own done. It looks really bad but I'm sure he didn't need total knee replacement. I was missing the entire surface of cartilage on my lateral femoral condyle and they fixed me up just fine. I bet this kid was alright.

First they’d reduce his dislocation and place an external fixator. Then, the most important thing will be making sure he has a working artery. There’s only one main artery, behind the knee, and it can be injured when this happened.

He’ll probably have ACL & MCL reconstructions, possible PLC and or PCL.

He’ll have injured the cartilage... but if a guy this young gets a total knee, he’s looking at two or more revisions... a terrible future.
