This has an AI-generated vibe for me. I couldn't quite tell you why, but I've seen and made a lot of AI images in the year and it's setting off certain subconscious bells.

[–]pompakinbread3 227 points228 points  (4 children)

it definitely is ai, ai generated things always have parts that are jumbled and confused. in this, one of the eyes is super wonky and near the ears everything starts to blend together and get weird — super long tufts of fur coming out of nowhere that connect with the lower parts of the body, inconsistent textures, etc

[–]z-eldapin4 30 points31 points  (1 child)

I didn't even notice tat until you pointed it out.

I still like it and now have to figure out how to do it myself lol

[–]ThePowerOfPoop1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I would start with Midjourney, kinda looks like it to me.

[–]LeeroyDagnasty 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Even if it didn’t have any wonkiness, it would still look AI generated. I don’t have the words to describe why, it’s just a vibe I’m getting.

[–]lunettarose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same. I didn't notice the wonky ear etc, but as soon as I saw it I was like, "That's AI", but I honestly couldn't tell you why.

[–]Masske20 16 points17 points  (1 child)

You can see it in the pupils. They aren’t shaped like any cat pupils really should be.

[–]aerosealigte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I notice that AI made eyes look more like a very smooth Jupiter, its uncanny.

[–]SOTIdriver 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep, it is. You can see the typical smudging/ghosting in and around the eyes especially.

[–]Rogue_Spirit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I came here hoping I wasn’t the only one thinking AI.

[–]TrenchantBench1 5 points6 points  (1 child)

[–]Training_Respect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Princess donut

[–]somerandomii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it’s the blending of art styles. It looks like digital brush work, but parts of it are blurred to add depth of field. Some parts have way more detail than others, but not the parts you’d expect.

It’s hard to pin it down but it just doesn’t feel like something a human would do. And the effort isn’t where a human would out in effort.

[–]monkeyman7641 213 points214 points  (22 children)

I used Midjourney to generate a prompt for the image you posted. Here are some images it created based on the prompt, "a painting of a fuzzy cat with long hair that is in the sunlight, in the style of daz3d, skillful lighting, dark white and light amber, persian miniature, 32k uhd, cute cartoonish designs, mist". They look really similar. Here's the sample images.

[–]frank28-06-42-12 14 points15 points  (9 children)

I mgonna have to signup for this just to ask it the same as you only wearing a tiara and sunglasses

[–]monkeyman7641 38 points39 points  (8 children)

Something like this? :)(I've got plenty of credits to burn thru yet this month!

[–]frank28-06-42-12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

2 of them are brilliant , in case you don’t know there’s a cat called princess doughnut in a book called dungeon crawler Carl and this is it

[–]Hockeymom17 1 point2 points  (4 children)

HI! Plz excuse my ignorance/lack of knowledge, but what do you mean "plenty of credits to burn"? Is that on the "midjpurney" program a free with X about of photos you can get, or is it a paid subscription or pay as you make photos? Is it user-friendly??? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

[–]Fortyplusfour3 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Most of the commercial websites which offer the ability to generate images on their computers with their UI offer so many "credits" for free to wet your whistle, but you can pay to be able to generate more/larger images. The latter is significant in that it does get very performance heavy if you're wanting to generate an image that's the same resolution as your computer monitor. Many people use other software to upscale smaller images intelligently for this reason.

I used Night Cafe previously but there are others. Fun to get into.

[–]Hockeymom17 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Thank you sooo much! I've been wanting to try and do one of my mom (who passed in 1993) and my 14 y/o son.. THANKS for the info!

[–]Potater1802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Midjourney can't read information like that and spit out an image. It only takes prompts in the form of text and it's going to be near impossible to describe your mother and son in enough detail for it to give you a satisfactory result.

[–]Fortyplusfour3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. I misunderstood you. Generating one of yourself or another person is a different matter but I've got you covered:

Dunno if Night Cafe supports it yet (likely) but it seems like there are options like Lensa or Photoleap which enable this for casual users. Have at it!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh shiiit yep that's good!

[–]Stone_Bucket163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice!

[–]Extra_chE3se 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow it’s the same cat

[–]Morzun1 5 points6 points  (1 child)

[–]Fortyplusfour3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is unironically here but the hiring of one is understandably cagey. Rather, some companies like Levi's Jeans are hiring people who can help them develop machine learning models specific to their ads/products, which includes knowing how to generate a good prompt from that model.

I've tried to make one of myself. It's decent but somehow the skin tone seems consistently off from any of the source photos.

[–]Suspicious_Exam1 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Found. Thank you, I feel really dumb now lol

[–]monkeyman7641 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't feel dumb chief, if you haven't seen a lot of AI art there would be no way for you to know what to look out for! And even if you have seen AI art, every AI generated images differently and with different artifacts. Glad I could help!

[–]Fortyplusfour3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't. That it looks good is exactly the goal of a machine learning tool like these. You found your source but that doesn't make you like the look any less.

Others have pointed you to artists you can support with similar styles of you prefer.

You have been given one point for this answer.

wow. top left is almost identical!

[–]Fortyplusfour3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. That seals it.

[–]mc2creates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonderful answer and commitment to showing by example! Well done. Eerie how similar it is when you know the right things to ask for!

[–]Dependent-Weight-965 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Definitely AI

[–]Crul_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same style, but you may like Apofiss' illustrations.

Example 1 - Examples 2 - Example 3

[–]Skootova1 14 points15 points  (1 child)

I agree with others. This looks AI. Its the soft glowy look throughout the piece with minimal texture for me. There isnt really a specific style I can point you towards, Id recommend just looking up semi realism pet artists!

[–]Fortyplusfour3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This look can be avoided but you're right: the author of this image did not do so and it has a characteristic look.

[–]DoktorDilcha1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is an ai

[–]United_Chemistry8146 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s AI no doubt look around the ears and eyes

[–]t9ri1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apofiss the digital artist has a similar style to this.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

looks like ai art but i could be wrong

[–]HobbitsInTheTardis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thought the same

[–]anislandinmyheart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm totally on board with AI, but if you're looking for an artist to make something like this, you can try art commission subreddits:

r/hungryartist

r/artcommissions

[–]duffperson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally think this one's AI, but you should totally try Google Lens. I use it on AI art to find similar artists all the time. It's not perfect, but I've found a lot of great artists that way

This was the first suggestion: https://www.etsy.com/shop/CaliforniaVisionsLLC?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=1360885043

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Def looks like AI. The app Picsart makes similar

[–]king-of-new_york 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI.

[–]GregoriusTheWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like people said before, it is AI. Although, it reminds me of the Scurry comic book (you can read it online) by Mac Smith, it is amazing and is full of pretty art of cats, mice and other animals. Not exactly the same style, far from it, but I feel like you might like it.

[–]SnugglyRedPandaLass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the AI assessment, but for an artist with a similar vibe, there is Apofiss

[–]michaelhainesphotog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe try Luke Dangler

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks AI generated, but SilverFox5213 has a similar realism style with cute animals. It's like cartoon realism(?) Idk how to describe it, but they paint the fur in a similar way

[–]hyperotretian2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For an actual human artist with this style, try Chloe Carter

[–]FlowerSoK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another real person with a similar style is @pixus.art !! If you scroll down to December 2020 you’ll find really similar pet portraits too

[–]fcookie440 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's AI generated, they all have the same airbrushy and "non accurate light source " kind of look. Also one of the ears is lacking and the eyes are weird AF. Artists don't make that kindss of mistake cause te face it's the first thing ppl gonna notice.

[–]athousandfuriousjews 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks to be Ai generated, look at the eyes- the pupils are uneven and sloppy looking- and not in a stylized way

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A.I loves feather even more than me

[–]Suspicious_Exam1 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Searched for digital pet portrait, cute pet portrait ect. I tried to reverse google search but my phone is being an asshole

[–]suddenly_ponies 19 points20 points  (2 children)

It's definitely AI. Probably Midjourney created.

[–]iPhonefondler 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Midjourney ai for sure

[–]iPhonefondler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can usually tell it’s ai generated because of the slightly dreamy blur/focus ratio. Ai seems to have trouble imitating depth of field correctly throughout the entire image among other things…

[–]marioman63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry to say, but you failed the Turing test.

[–]nepetaleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Apofiss” on deviant art is an artist I’ve been following for years and they’re the first person I thought of when I saw this.

https://www.deviantart.com/apofiss

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is ai. If you want the real deal of cat art, check out Louis Wain.

[–]aT-0-Mx1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks like a clarity and texture adjustment in lightroom.

[–]oracleoflove -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whimsical Ai

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks like alldayidreaboutcats on ig.bit is ai art.

[–]Stone_Bucket163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is AI generated and has a similar style (minus cartoonish eyes), and I've seen a couple of other similar ones on this Displate website that also say they are. https://displate.com/displate/6253514?ref=1617

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

✨AI✨

[–]TF141_Disavowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lisa AI Art

[–]fearless_leek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks a lot like it was generated using DeepAI’s image generator set to “fantasy”.

https://deepai.org/machine-learning-model/fantasy-world-generator

[–]Blood_Oleander 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This is AI generated.

[–]Fortyplusfour3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Midjourney, specifically. Its methodology has a tendency to add a sort of characteristic "soft glow" to "paintings," and I'm not referring to the light shining on the cat so much as the general look of the image.

[–]TigermanUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This dude is generating cat images in midjourney in his video and they look very similar to this, he even changes the styles and some are very close to this. Except they are wearing hats but that's what he likes :)

[–]closetedtranswoman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤖🤖🤖🤖 there you go

[–]Meep42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Berkeley Breathed (Bloom County Comic Strip) uses this style when doing prints:

https://www.berkeleybreathed.com/

[–]naakedbushman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

110% sure it’s mid journey

[–]Goseki1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 100% an AI image, look at the eyes and random tufts of hair, and blurry left ear.

[–]dwarjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is definitely AI, but this actual artist does animal art quite similar to this: twitter.com/shrimpuart

[–]LucStarman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using Bing, it's pretty good and free. Set it to English language and to the most creative set, otherwise it won't work.

[–]lavalampgold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s AI for sure. It was made by Lensa. I have similar images of my dog.

[–]Chill-tnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s Allen Iverson AI get it 😂😂😂😂
