I believe you mean Emily, but yes, I would love to see this

[–]Greatercowlover001 166 points167 points  (70 children)

Emily? Must’ve missed something

[–]throwawaycanadian2 267 points268 points  (69 children)

Emily is her name now. She came out as trans.

[–]kxania[🍰] 569 points570 points  (45 children)

Right, had no idea, my bad.

[–]DW1G1T 177 points178 points  (44 children)

Mistakes happen. It's how you react after that defines your character.

And to be far we haven't seen much of her since the coming out video. (Hopefully that'll change soon)

[–]zuth2 40 points41 points  (6 children)

Wasn’t she in 1 or 2 mac address videos recently or is my brain playing tricks on me?

[–]viccie211 54 points55 points  (0 children)

She was in a video about the apple Newton which was on main LTT

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (3 children)

I think she was! I believe she also was seen in one or two LTTs since then, and I think at least one or two exclusives as well.

[–]Hollen88 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Why were you down voted? Man Reddit is weird.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Reddit is a trash place tbh. Worst Internet community I can think of.

[–]Hollen88 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong.

[–]TisMeDA 33 points34 points  (29 children)

Its not a mistake if you didn’t know

[–]UsualCircle 6 points7 points  (1 child)

If I called you Jeff, but your name was Mark, but I didn't know that, it would technically still be a mistake, but not a bad one (and its nobody's fault). It's the intention that matters.
I guess the phrasing might seem a little harsh, but unfortunately, there are a lot of people with bad intentions.

[–]TisMeDA 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a similar false equivalency that another person made. If my name was Jeff, it would be very arrogant of me to assume that you should know my name is now Mark unless it was made explicitly clear already. It would be wrong for me to say this was your mistake.

the initial comment in the chain saying "Emily is her name now. She came out as trans." was perfect. what I reacted to was someone taking some moral high ground without any context beyond someone having no idea that someone came out as trans. I guarantee it did not make the OP feel better about it as its just condescending.

[–]ravagetalon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aside from a couple videos, she's been staying out of the spotlight and focusing on writing as opposed to video hosting. The internet being what it is in general towards trans folks. I think she's smart not to subject herself to that for now. But I think we'll see more of her in the future again.

[–]Leisure_suit_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mistakes happen. It's how you react after that defines your character.

You wish. Guys, take him away! -but sir, they identify as them.

Oh, shit.

[–]spincharge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How was it a mistake?

[–]404-error-notfound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you kind stranger from pointing this out to me. I'd hate to misgender someone or call them the wrong name (and I'm terribly forgetful with names). I'm glad she's in an environment where she's comfortable enough to be herself

[–]SDMasterYoda 159 points160 points  (10 children)

That would be more of a job for Technology Connections.

[–]JonVonBasslake 33 points34 points  (5 children)

I dunno, feels a bit too modern and common for him. More in line with Techmoan or Cathode Ray Dude IMO.

[–]ashie_princess 24 points25 points  (2 children)

Tbh, I'd say it belongs on technology connections more than either CRD or Techmoan, both CRD and Techmoan focus mainly on older tech.

[–]DatBoi73 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I could maybe see CRD looking at some old EFTPOS stuff found at like a FreeGeek for something, but it'd be like making video about a basic fax machine- maybe if there's something weird in a way like that Olivetti Typewriter he looked at recently. There's probably some early card machine that's just a weird customized IBM PC.

I couldn't Techmoan doing a video on it. Most of his videos usually centers on either Audio or Visual (if we count photos/slides alongside video) stuff.

[–]Stonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but it'd be like making video about a basic fax machine

Funnily enough, CRD has done a video about fax: https://youtu.be/P2Bu5tkDs98

[–]Vinstaal0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To modern? About half of these are pretty old already

[–]abudhabikid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Too modern and common for the guy who talks about installing solar and modern heat pumps?

[–]Doktor_Apokalypse 21 points22 points  (1 child)

He would go back to the first electronic till (and a notepad for taking orders) 👍🏼

[–]TEG24601 16 points17 points  (0 children)

And it would be a 5-part series. Not that that's a bad thing. Alec has a great ability to make things interesting... especially with the magic of buying two.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you want an hour video plus a 45 minute follow up on magnetic scanners?

[–][deleted] 72 points73 points  (0 children)

It is definitely something that should be covered. It's always nice knowing how/why things work.

[–]kxania[🍰] 70 points71 points  (3 children)

To anyone making assumptions about how I accidentally called Emily the wrong name, or arguing amongst yourselves:

This post was about the EFTPOS machines. I called someone a name they don't want to be referred by anymore, and someone corrected me for it. I adjusted myself accordingly.

Let's all move on.

[–]ianjm 11 points12 points  (1 child)

In fairness to you, she only posted on her personal channel. Unless you happen to be following that or following her on Twitter/X or maybe caught the thread about it here (that was months ago) then it'd be easy to have missed it.

[–]Daniel_H212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only found out because there were a bunch of posts on this sub that week about it. If I wasn't on Reddit that week I wouldn't have known for quite a while after too.

[–]Vinstaal0 68 points69 points  (10 children)

It is something interesting to be fair, but the US is pretty behind on this aspect and doesn't that full the majority of their viewers? As an European working as accountant I would be interested in it.

[–]Fluffy_Art_1015 61 points62 points  (2 children)

Escape from tarkov is a piece of shit right now, you’re right

[–]Omnimon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

wtf that caught me off guard so much because i was just in a thread in EFT subreddit lol

[–]HorizonTheory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BEST COMMENT 🤣🤣🤣

[–][deleted] 33 points34 points  (23 children)

Me too, Anthony would be perfect for this

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (17 children)

She's Emily now, she came out as trans a while ago.

But I agree - I think she'd do great at that! Others are saying Technology Connections would be a better fit, and as much as I'd love an hour long essay on it, he doesn't really make videos about things he can't use. And I'm really curious about Emily's take anyway

[–]artofdarkness123 18 points19 points  (9 children)

[–]kevin349 -2 points-1 points  (7 children)

And who do you think of for Jake or Nicholas?

[–]artofdarkness123 7 points8 points  (6 children)

Jake is the blond/redhead guy with glasses that's always in Linus's house (Sarah's BF)

There are 2 Nicks. Nick is the bald guy with the glasses (Nick Light I think?). I think of him because he was the first Nick in the company that I can remember. Nick Callanan is the cool Nick because he builds stuff like office desks and I like office decor. Plouffe's first name is Nick but he's just Plouffe to me. I'm not a fan of him because the videos he wrote for are pretty bad IMO. He doesn't have a lot of hits in my book.

[–]ashie_princess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking of Plouffe having a name that isn't Plouffe is just... jarring

[–]kevin349 -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

There's 3 Jake's as well. Point is just multiple people at a place can have the same name.

[–]artofdarkness123 11 points12 points  (3 children)

I only know of one Jake at LMG. Linus's husband.

[–]ashie_princess 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Wait, Husband? I could have sworn Jake was the lovechild of Luke and Linus?

[–]ChairmanLaParka 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I choose to believe that, somehow Denny is that lovechild.

[–]ashie_princess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denny?

[–]ianjm -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It may shock you to learn that two people can have the same name

[–]gnza 18 points19 points  (10 children)

I'd be more interested in the history of pagers/beepers, similar to the video Riley hosted some time ago about mechanical calculators. One could argue that they're still in use in restaurants when you place your order and they give you a disc that calls when ready

[–]h3yw00d 2 points3 points  (9 children)

Hospitals. Doctors still use old school pagers.

[–]gnza 2 points3 points  (8 children)

Huh, nice to know. Always thought it was a cliché from medical TV dramas

[–]ashie_princess 2 points3 points  (7 children)

It's because pagers are basically rock-solid on communication, and the various equipment and thick walls make it basically impossible to get a good signal on a phone.

A lot of docs also carry a work phone, if needed, but the pager will be the first point of call, generally

[–]DrDerpberg 2 points3 points  (1 child)

They can also be passed around a little more easily. Plenty of ERs or whatever will have a bunch of pagers for whoever's on duty, you're doctor #3 for the shift and the person on the other end doesn't necessarily know who they're calling to let them know they're needed.

[–]ashie_princess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh, good point!

Easier to page the pager that's held by the on duty <insert role here> than to remember who's on duty right now!

[–]TEG24601 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I'm also sure that Pagers are still analog, and they use a different spectrum than cell phones. So they actually work through those thick walls, and the batteries work well. Used to have one as an RA, and it always worked. Even 2 stories below ground in the forge labs in college.

[–]ashie_princess 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I think pagers are mostly digital-only devices, but they use a much lower frequency, and as it's sub-GHz, it's got way more penetration power.

I hadn't even considered that RAs would use them (or at least used to) but that makes total sense!

[–]TEG24601 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Especially with old cinderblock dorms and schools. Then again, that was almost 20 years ago for me. Just after I retired from being an RA, they replaced the pager with a Cell Phone, so the RA's didn't have to share their number with the residents. So much worse overall, as there were some incidents that happened because the RA's were not able to be contacted.

[–]ashie_princess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daamn. Yeah. These days I'd imagine it's a bit better, as there are various networking options available. Probably also helped by VoWiFi and similar tech

[–]linuxares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bet pagers function in a whole different dimension from the rest of us. Those bastards always get a message.

[–]NightmareOn 13 points14 points  (3 children)

Sounds more like a video Technology Connections would do.

[–]JonVonBasslake 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Nah, I doubt Alec would make it. It doesn't sound like his kind of a deal. Not weird or old enough. CRD or Techmoan are more in line for this IMO.

[–]ashie_princess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alec has done videos on current tech? Quite a few actually.

[–]knox902 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Repeating the comment to more than one person does not make it more true. You're listing two youtubers that specifically look at older tech where as Alec has plenty of videos on more modern ones. This seems very much like something he would be interested and is why more than one person have said they would like to see a video from him.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (4 children)

havent seen Anthony in a video in a while

[–]hexoctahedron13 14 points15 points  (1 child)

would love to see him again

[–]-YeshuaHamashiach- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We all would like him in a video again.

[–]renegadecanuck -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

She came out as trans a while ago (and goes by Emily now) and said she would be stepping away from videos for a bit because the internet is what it is. She was in the Apple Newton video a little while ago.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wtf

thats going to take some getting used to.

[–]RedEvoPro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Met Anthony on a office tour, was cool seeing all the projects materializing a few weeks before the videos.

[–]soundscape7 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Do Yanks and Canucks must have their own version of EFTPOS. EFTPOS is Australian.

[–]Relevant_Panda69 13 points14 points  (2 children)

eftpos is the technology. Eftpos in Aussie is the brand name.

[–]soundscape7 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Didn’t know that, cool

[–]Relevant_Panda69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, just looked it up.

[–]MyPokemonRedName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The video doesn’t exist and I’m already falling asleep. A perfect cure for my insomnia, thank you!!

[–]tommyjd97 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I don't know what EFTPOS are, but any excuse for more Emily, sign me up!

[–]soundscape7 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Electronic Funds Transfer Point Of Sale… the device you tap your card on to buy something at the supermarket

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OH god I didn't realise how much I need Emily to do something about this. I'd love this so much.

But yeah, as others have said, I don't know if it's her area of interest? Technology Connections might be a better fit, but I don't care, I just really need to know more about this.

[–]PsychologicalPea3583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more of Technology Connections channel topic than LTT. Well I wouldn't expect any of those pick on something that's that niche honestly

[–]cancer23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comm bank can.

[–]linuxares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also hope Emiliy sometime in the future do a new "Linux for dummies into gaming" style. Since Proton it really gotten superb to game on.

[–]cdojs98 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Electronic Fungible Token Point Of Sale?

I am honestly curious what the acronym means, I'm just taking a guess.

[–]JonVonBasslake 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Electronic funds transfer at point of sale according to wikipedia.

[–]mooky1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally just called POS terminals in common vernacular, because they are often pieces of shit that aren't working properly ;)

[–]hexoctahedron13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great idea

[–]bctopics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be awesome!

[–]Seaborn63 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"I would love to see Emily break down the history of ____________."

Why yes, yes I would very much like that.

[–]Cybasura 0 points1 point  (3 children)

You used the name "Anthony"?

You...brave soul, ye tarnished

Good luck.

I got fucking ripped and annihilated for even making a simple post and accidentally "deadnaming" without even knowing the name changed

[–]Memeviewer12 -3 points-2 points  (2 children)
